Welcome, culinary adventurers! San Diego’s food scene is as diverse as it is delicious. Ours is a buzzing border city, beach town, military hub and cultural melting pot all in one. Those rich identities combine to shape our favorite cuisines—from Coastal Mexican to the Asian offerings of the Convoy District—and don’t forget the craft beer. Warm up your OpenTable App; let’s make some reservations! First, the basics: Every neighborhood boasts dozens of eateries that celebrate our devotion to fresh, zesty Mexican flavors. Visitors should begin with the quintessential San Diegan dish: The creamy, crunchy, fabulous fish taco. Taste the original at our homegrown chain, Rubio’s or experience an elevated version (with ocean views) at Mitch’s in Point Loma. Speaking of iconic dishes, the French-fry laden California burrito is just as essential. Not sure where to go? Calm your hungry nerves, because every taco shop in town makes a good one. Multicultural influences shine in Little Italy and The Convoy District. The former is a

walkable, downtown neighborhood, perfect for romantic gnocchi dinners or gelato with friends. The latter is your best bet for swooninducing bao buns, ramen and Boba in a strip mall setting. Both areas are bustling at mealtimes, with limited parking options. So, plan to dine early with little kids. For family-friendly spots and great parking, don’t miss our most recent gastronomical development—Liberty Station. The converted Naval Training Center in Point Loma boasts wide grassy spaces, a food hall, and a favorite kid-friendly restaurant, Officine Buona Forchetta—a laid back spot for authentic Naples-style pizza with an outdoor playground onsite. For the absolute trendiest eateries in town, head to North Park. Station Tavern and Waypoint Public offer play areas for little kids and exceptional craft beer selections. Visit www.SanDiegoFamily.com for more restaurants with play spaces and a list of kids-eat-free days around the county.
