fter getting embroiled in a controversy over his ‘rape’ analogy, Salman Khan seems to have adopted a new funda - “to keep it short”. The superstar says it is better if he talks less. At a press conference to mark the opening of the 17th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) here on Thursday, the “Kick” star took the stage to talk about his experience at the four-day gala till now. The actor said: “I know it has been a long evening, So I will make it short, quick.” Prompting a woman from the audience to yell out “no” and urged him to be on stage for a bit longer. The actor hinted at the ongoing

“rape” stir when he said: “I have to make it. The shorter I keep, the better it is.” Salman courted controversy after he said during a media interaction that he felt like a

“raped woman” walking out of a ring in his role as a wrestler in his upcoming film “Sultan”. He later said, “I don’t think I should have” and explained that he found it

hard to walk. Salman who came into the limelight following his act as Prem in the endearing love saga “Maine Pyar Kiya” in 1989, is one of the biggest box office draws in the country. Salman is no stranger to controversies, be it the infamous 2002 hit-and-run case or the Blackbuck hunting case. More recently, Salman stirred a hornet’s nest by opposing the death penalty for 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon in 2015. He retracted the tweet later on. He also faced flak when he was named the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the Rio Olympics to be held later this year. The superstar was seen sharing jokes with actors like Shahid Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.

BRIEFS I don’t want to conquer the world MUMBAI: While Bollywood actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone are making a splash in the West, their contemporary Kareena Kapoor Khan has no such ambitions. The actress says she has no ambition to go globe-trotting with her talent and is happy to have “a little place of her own”. “My priorities are very different. The kind of work that these girls have put in, you need to have that kind of dedication of wanting to achieve so much and do it so wonderfully. I don’t want to conquer the world but I don’t mind having a little place of my own. It’s as simple as that,” said Kareena. The actress is currently riding the success of “Udta Punjab”.

Madhuri Dixit breaks down on TV show MUMBAI: Bollywood’s dancing diva Madhuri Dixit Nene got emotional and broke down after seeing a performance revolving around Parkinson’s disease on the sets of TV show “So You Think You Can Dance ‘Ab India ki Baari’” here. Contestants Shampa and Ryan moved everyone with their phenomenal act. “Shampa is really talented and the way she showed the effects of Parkinson held our attention. I feel in our society there are so many people who need support from their family who face Parkinson’s. It was a very touching and an emotional performance,” Madhuri said in a statement. Madhuri, often called the ‘Dhak Dhak Girl’ of Bollywood, is a judge on the TV show, which is aired on &TV channel. Popular choreographers Terence Lewis and Bosco Martis are her fellow judges.

‘Raman Raghav 2.0’: Cleverly crafted, compelling

R

aman Raghav 2.0” is Anurag Kashyap’s take on the psychotic serial killer Raman Raghav who terrorised Mumbai during the late 1960s. He had apparently bludgeoned 41 people to death using a bent iron rod. This is not a biopic but a twisted fiction that encapsulates the life of two soulmates; the scar-faced serial killer Ramanna who also called himself Sindhi Dalwai, and the addicted to drugs Police Inspector, Raghavendra Singh Ubbi who was initially investigating the killings. Narrated in a linear fashion and set in 2013, the narration begins in a nightclub with pounding music

and free flowing drugs. Raghavendra, high on drugs, leaves the nightclub with a woman he picked up that night. En route to his residence, he

stops in Kidwai Nagar to pick up more drugs. But when he lands up at the residence of his drug supplier, he realises that the old man has been attacked brutally. Raghaven-

dra does not hesitate to take advantage of the situation by stealing his drug supply, but not before murdering another intruder who lands up at the crime scene minutes later. This scene forms the prologue to the drama, which is encapsulated in eight chapters that unfurl with gripping flourish of how Ramanna stalks Raghav and their lives are

intertwined. It also overturns expectations in the finale, to create an impactful and convincing drama. The story, written by Anurag Kashyap and Vasan Bala, is typically Anurag’s overture. Their plot is packed with grisly crime, dark characters in forbidding territory and dialogues that humourously engage the audience. It broadly deals with the morality of killing, which is seen from two aspects; that of an unhinged killer and the other from the view of a lawkeeper. But it is Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Ramanna and Vicky Kaushal as Raghave. Overall, “Raman Raghav 2.0” is a cleverly crafted and compelling film.
