Class Notes Chrystyna M. Rakoczy, OD ’84 reports that after 16 years at Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA, she and her husband Michael Kostrycky have moved to Florida. She is now working at the Traumatic Brain Injury and Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center in Tampa’s James A. Haley Veterans Administration Medical Center. She has established the first VA clinical fellowship in optometry in interdisciplinary TBO/polytrauma rehabilitation.

Lisa R. Levine, OD ’86, who practices optometry in Reading, PA, writes in to say that daughter Emily is now a freshman at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, and that daughter Gabriele, age 8, is a third grader.

Maria Casas Luque, OD ’88, vice president of FEDOPTO, the federation of optometrists in Colombia, was a co-interpreter and co-moderator of an ocular disease panel at the FEDOPTO International Congress in May. Dr. Casas Luque was joined in her duties on the panel by Dr. Derek Mladenovich ’02. More than 1,000 attendees from around the world came to Bogota for the celebration of 60 years of optometry in Colombia.

Tracy C. Sepich, OD, MS ’91 is living in State College, PA with her husband and four children. She established her second practice, Sepich Eye Care, in 2005 and recently brought in a new associate, Christine V. Zlupko, OD ’03. They specialize in Low Vision and Vision Therapy, as well as primary eye care. Maria Armandi Pimley, OD ’92 was elected to a four-year term as a member of the West Chester Area School District’s School Board of Directors.

Rosemary R. Frasco, OD ’01 was recently featured in a Top-Tier Tutoring “Ear on Careers” podcast. In the interview, Dr. Frasco, who practices at the Liva Eye Center in Paramus, NJ, discussed her path to becoming an optometrist and what a “typical” day in her office might be like. Marcus M. Devlin, OD ’04 and wife Elizabeth welcomed Margo Elise in September 2010.

David E. Paden, OD ’05 and wife Jennifer welcomed daughter Kaylee Noelle in July 2010. Amy E. Suda, OD ’05 and husband Joseph Januszkiewicz proudly announce the birth of son Jonas William in December 2009.

Mona Patel Nutakki, OD ’01 and husband Sinu Nutakki have two children – Mira, born in 2008 and Aman, born in 2009. Hollie S. Brannan, OD ’02 and husband Scott Brannan are proud to announce the birth of their son, Matthew Robert, in January 2010. (Ed. Note: Scott Brannan has recently returned home safely from Afghanistan, having last seen Matthew when he was just a week old.)

Heidi (Fike) Calladine, OD ’06 and Eric Calladine were wed in June 2010 at the Morningside Inn in Frederick, MD. Carlene Siracuse Whitling, OD ’06 was a bridesmaid, and PCO graduates Charles P. Whitling, OD ’06, Trisha M. Moore, OD ’06 and Ellen B. Wolfe, OD ’06 were all in attendance. Dr. Calladine resides in Fairfax, VA and is currently practicing in Northern Virginia. Eric Calladine is an environmental scientist in Gainesville, VA. ▼

Laurel Pulsifer, OD ’91 writes to say that she has moved to North Conway, NH and continues to work at the practice in Conway, NH, where she has been for 12 years. She and her husband, James Tremblag, have two cats and one dog and enjoy hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and softball in their free time.

2000s

Kimberly K. Friedman, OD ’91, FAAO and Leslie Friedman, OD ’91 are proud to announce that Patrick A. Johnson, OD ’95 has joined their practice, Moorestown Eye Associates, in Moorestown, NJ.

Paul Koons, MS ’99, COMS, CLVT, co-authored a study, “Scanning training in neurological vision loss: case studies” that appeared in the Dovepress Journal. The study describes the development of a VA Medical Center’s rehabilitation program for patients with hemianopsia, which affects significant numbers of troops returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Manuel R. Zambrano, OD ’03 was featured in an article on Young Optometrists in the July issue of The Review of Optometry. Dr. Zambrano is currently working at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA.

1990s

Dave Holler, OD ’98 and Grace (Lopez) Holler, OD ’98, wrote to share the news of the birth of daughter, Jacquelyn Taylor Holler, born in September 2010.

Hannah Park, OD ’03 welcomed a baby boy, Jake William Lebrun, in September 2009.

Kelly Frantz, OD ’85, FAAO, FCOVD, professor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, was the 2010 recipient of the ICO Alumni Association’s Excellence in Education Award for faculty. Dr. Frantz has served as an ICO faculty member for 24 years, specializing in pediatrics and binocular vision.

Lisa Shin, OD ’96 has been in private practice in Los Alamos, NM for fourteen years. Dr. Shin and husband Heath Davis welcomed baby daughter Lydia Davis to their family in 2008.

Derek Mladenovich, OD ‘02, MPH, PCO assistant professor, was invited to speak at the FEDOPTO International Congress in Bogota, Colombia in May. The conference paid tribute to 60 years of optometry in Colombia and Dr. Mladenovich joined PCO alumna and current FEDOPTO vice president Dr. Maria Casas Luque ’88, as co-interpreters and co-moderators of an ocular disease panel. ▼

Dana (Pulverenti) Cianni, OD ’06 married Raymond M. Cianni, OD ’06, at Greystone Castle, Canastota, NY in February 2010. Dr. Cianni practices optometry at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
