A highlight of the litrugical life of Saint Mark’s Cathedral, the “O” Antiphons service returned with an in-person congregation on November 28. 2021.

Dr. Zanaida Steward Robles: As part of the catehdral’s commitment to racial justice, the

music department, under the leadership of Canon Michael Kleinschmidt, considered many ways to diversify its repertoire and push back against patterns of exclusion. One aspect of that work was the commissioning of a new anthem especially for the “O” Antiphons liturgy. Dr. Zanaida Robles was selected for the commission, and the work she composed, titled “Ecstatic Expectancy,” was enthusiastically embraced by the Cathedral Choir and the congregation alike. Dr. Robles traveled to Seattle to be present for the premiere.
