The Crooked Spire Musical A thrilling musical murder mystery set in 14th century Chesterfield. This family-friendly show revolves around the story of John, a carpenter who has travelled from York to help with construction of St Mary and All Saints Church spire.
Tragically, the master carpenter is killed and John is accused of the murder. As he gets closer to the truth further murders are committed and John’s life is in danger. John is helped along the way by new friend, Walter, the brother of a local seamstress, Katherine, who has caught John’s eye.
But will our hero survive and justice prevail? Will John win the heart of a good Chesterfield lass? Come and see for yourself at a unique opportunity to see this home-grown ‘West End musical’ directed by Jake Smith who has worked on Sting’s ‘The Last Ship’ and a tour of Sleepy Hollow.
Ashgate Heritage Arts was formed by Chesterfield musicians Martin Coslett and Peter Gray, together with writer, Mary Hennessy from Buxton, in order to bring history to life through exciting live musical theatre performances.
The cast of The Crooked Spire includes established TV and film actors such as Gerard Fletcher from Netflix’s The Crown and Bartlett in BBC’s Get Even and John Conway, from the film The World’s End, directed by Edgar Wright. Eleven year old singing and acting sensation, Eddie Waller, from Chesterfield has been cast in one of the starring roles. “I feel very lucky to have been cast in the role of Walter. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from some professional actors. It’s a great show too, with some catchy songs,” Eddie enthused.
