Born November 8, 2002, in Rochester, New York, Ryan Gustin has consistently demonstrated a passion for engineering, leadership, and community service. His academic and personal journey, from growing up in Penfield, New York, to studying Civil Engineering at Penn State, is a testament to his dedication to individual growth and helping others. Ryan’s educational journey began at Plank Road North Elementary in Webster, New York, where he attended from first to fifth grade.  Throughout these early years, he engaged in sports such as football, basketball, and baseball, fostering a strong sense of teamwork and discipline. During this time, Ryan’s interest in technology began to develop as he got involved in Lego robotics, an experience that sparked his curiosity in engineering and problem-solving. At McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, Ryan embraced the motto of becoming a "man for others." His leadership abilities were recognized when he was appointed team lead for the McQuaid IgKnighters Robotics Team. In this role, he was responsible for designing the robot’s climbing mechanism. One of his most memorable achievements came when the team’s robot and two other robots successfully hoisted itself off the ground and earned them the “Excellence in Engineering” award. Additionally, Ryan gained valuable hands-on experience by learning to operate the school’s CNC Mill and working with materials like aluminum and steel to build functional parts for their robot. Ryan Gustin's New York commitment to service has been central to his life. He volunteered at the House of Mercy Homeless Shelter, where he helped distribute holiday gifts, and participated in the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry, offering support to individuals with limited family connections. At Maplewood Nursing Home, Ryan dedicated over 170 hours to working with residents, offering care and companionship to older people.
