CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE
KUBE ARCHITECTURE Project Manager: Richard Loosle-Ortega | kube-arch.com D U VA L L C O U R T Duvall Court is a redevelopment of a previously “unbuildable” set of alley lots in Washington D.C., and thus a re-establishment of a thriving “alley neighborhood.” The potential for alley lots has become evident: they are smaller scale than streets, often walkable to public transit, and pedestrian-friendly. In 2016, changes in zoning codes made it possible for these alley lots to be developed, and Duvall Court was born. Seven new rowhouses now occupy this site, with walkable green roofs, parking on each lot, and abundant natural light. This development serves as a model for future alley neighborhoods evolving in Washington, D.C. B U I L D E R : OPaL Custom Homes and Renovations, LLC, opaldc.com

Its 7,500-square-foot home, reminiscent of summer estates in the Hamptons, contains living and dining spaces designed to foster togetherness, while the office and library facilitate personal time. In total, the home consists of five bedroom suites. Outside, verandas on the east and west facades, a covered screened pavilion, flanking pool cabana, outdoor showers, terraces, and a fire pit all exude the idyllic Chesapeake Bay summer lifestyle experience.
