Annemarie was born and raised in Amsterdam. Many years ago, she discovered her love of the landscape of Friesland in the northern Netherlands. She has now lived and worked in Friesland for over 20 years and can often be found out in the landscape with her camera, which is where she feels most at home.
I am inspired by beauty as I experience it through the visual arts, novels, poems and music. I use the camera in search of the essence of what touches me and what I see and experience. I take the time to discover what it means to me.

Truly creating from what drives me is often challenging for me. ‘Taking the time’ is a common thread in my work: ‘By taking time I will see more and look differently’.
Beginnings I discovered my love for the camera through my neighbour, a passionate landscape photographer. I was then 15 years old. It was only years later, in the mid-90s, and after a DIGIT Magazine 2022 Issue 2

different career, that I started to focus seriously on photography. I was following an analogue course at the time and established myself as a professional photographer in 2000. Broadly educated, I initially did all types of photography, from weddings to funerals and from products to portraits. In 2003, I returned to where my heart lies, to the landscape. During this time, I got a commission from the government to photograph the layout of the landscape. Everything began to fall into place. For several years, I photographed the landscape in the classical way. One of the characteristics of my photographic work at the time was
showing the beauty, the emptiness, the simplicity, and the silence of the landscape. And looking at my work now, after all these years, I see that those are still my starting points.
Searching Yet, I started to search. Searching for what drives me when I am in the landscape. Searching for what kind of landscape photographer I actually wanted to be. Afterwards I saw that the reason for this was that I never felt completely at home in the world of classical landscape photography.
