Ginger milk (GOLDEN MILK)

By Inspired By Pri’s Food Serves 2-3 Ginger milk has a warm, earthy, and homey taste. It is soothing and does wonders for you, especially during the flu season. It was my granny’s version of a hot toddy when we were sick. I hope you give it a try. It is certainly a drink that will leave you feeling much better. INGREDIENTS • • • • • •

250ml water 500ml milk 40g grated ginger 1 cinnamon stick 1 teaspoon of turmeric 2 tablespoons of honey

METHOD 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Pour 500ml of water into a saucepan, add the grated ginger and bring to a simmer. Add one teaspoon of turmeric and mix well. Once the water mixture starts to simmer, add a cinnamon stick and pour in the milk. Allow the turmeric-ginger milk to come to a boil for a few minutes. Finish off with 2 tablespoons of honey and serve hot.

Classic Hot Toddy By Inspired By Pri’s Food Serves 1

A soothing brandy with hot water may provide much-needed comfort. Its antimicrobial qualities aid in the treatment of throat irritation and other infections. One of the most common methods to take brandy for a cold is in a delightful hot toddy. INGREDIENTS • • • • • •

4 cup water 1 shot of brandy 2 to 3 teaspoons honey 2 to 3 teaspoons lemon juice 1 lemon slice 1 cinnamon stick

METHOD 1. 2.

In a teapot or saucepan, bring the water to a simmer. Pour the hot water into a mug. Add the brandy, honey and lemon juice. Stir until the honey has disappeared into the hot water. slice and cinnamon stick. Enjoy! essentialflavours.co.za • June 2023 | 107
