Among the Trees

Nestled deep in the densely timbered terrain of Montana’s 37,000-acre Paws Up Ranch, lies an exclusive private retreat beneath a canopy of towering pines designed for those seeking adventure and serenity, The Green O. The sophisticated adults-only woodland hideaway invites you and your spouse to sleep among the treetops following an intimate ceremony surrounded by spectacular views of the Blackfoot River Valley and picturesque mountain range against the blue sky while clouds float over the peaks. Drawing inspiration from the contemporary design of the property’s Scandinavianinspired hauses, Brittany of Soiree 99 Events with the help of Jacilyn M Photography thoughtfully curated an experience for couples who crave seclusion and romance.

With an emphasis on femininity and timeless elegance, the bride wore a Daalarna Couture gown designed in Budapest, Hungary, featuring Italian polka-dot tulle with embroidered details and billowy sleeves. She finished her boldly romantic and elevated look with a modern alternative to the traditional wedding veil. A floor-length weightless chiffon cape made of three draped panels is impossibly chic paired with her intricately detailed wedding dress. The bouquet, designed by Mum’s Weddings, incorporated a mix of juicy berry-hued tones in hot pink, deep purple, and rich burgundy. Flowing strands of long ribbon in earth shades of champagne and moss green delicately cascade off the artfully asymmetrical assortment of florals.

After exchanging vows with the forest as your backdrop, extend the evening in the open air where you can dine tucked away in a private oasis of pristine wilderness. Listen closely as ten miles of the Blackfoot River flow right through the quiet property. The aesthetic pays tribute to the bucolic setting graced with an opulent flair, clear acrylic ghost chairs bring an aura of elegance to the sylvan surround. Layered with texture and luxe details such as soft golden velvet linens from Nüage Designs and personalized signage by Design by Zoe, the tablescape ties the entire event together from start to finish.

Whether you envision five or fifty guests in attendance, hosting an after-party at one of the twelve secluded haus accommodations will extend the revelry until the early hours of the morning. The casual affair calls for an outfit change that will transform your ensemble entirely while still embodying a head-turning style. A sparkly showstopping jumpsuit is the ultimate choice for the bride who enjoys being the center of attention and embraces her playful sassy side. Decorated with sequins from head to toe, the Martina Jumpsuit from Show Me Your Mumu has a plunging neckline and a front tie that can be worn as a wrap for more coverage or tied in a gorgeous bow. Complete the look with an extra dose of glamor by adding a crystal embellished bow barrette to any hairstyle.

FrenchConnection

Inspired by the essence of refined modernity paired with intentional design, Raven Alexandra Signature Weddings and Justine Milton Photography orchestrated an old-world European wedding that will leave you feeling like you were instantly transported to the South of France. An invitation suite designed by PaperOcelot Studios serves as the first impression of the wedding style featuring vintage details such as swirling calligraphy, wax seals, and exquisite golden tassels. Guests will be wowed when unfolding their envelope of fine stationery and the striking balance of black with blush tones coupled for a modern touch to the undoubtedly feminine illustrations.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 59

Pure romance doesn’t even begin to describe the bride in her floral lace hemmed robe and sheer Swiss dot tulle lingerie set. With endless gorgeous styles at your fingertips to make you feel just as sexy as you are, consider donning your intimates for elegant bridal boudoir portraits before slipping into the dress of your dreams. Combining timeless elegance with on-trend details, the bride absolutely stuns in her wedding gown from Chosen by KYHA. Known to create collections that push the boundaries of bridal design, the Australian designer delivered ‘Brinkley’ with no exception to that rule, featuring a structured bodice, taffeta draping, detachable voluminous sleeves, and a thigh-high slit at the front. Simply put, sometimes more is more.

Set in the heart of Calgary, The Fairmont Palliser is one of the city’s oldest and most luxurious hotels established in 1914. Say “I do” in the most iconic downtown location where a contemporary Parisian experience exists without having to travel abroad. If you’re considering a guest list with less than 100 loved ones, the newly redesigned Oak Room offers floor-to-ceiling windows and classic white wainscoting that instantly gives the atmosphere a feeling of grandeur. Rather than the typical monochromatic palette that comes to mind with a modern design, this talented team of creatives utilised the blank canvas space to introduce variegated autumnal toned colours paying homage to the change in season. The focal point of the ceremony, of course, was the spiral floral installation by Twig & Bloom at the altar progressively shifting from light to dark hues.

62 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

After the ceremony the newlyweds could be found gallivanting around the 108-yearold castle before cutting into a two-tiered confection wrapped in white buttercream and delicately placed ruching on the bottom layer to complement the bride’s gown. Meticulously selected black accents can be seen throughout the reception to ground the otherwise bright space while maintaining a softness in the décor.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 67

While some might say you can’t have your cake and eat it too, we disagree. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to your wedding which includes choosing a celebratory champagne tower pour in addition to cutting a cake, and doing what feels right for you and your spouse. Level up the ooh la la factor to your ordinary champagne toast by serving bubbly in an undeniably cool and chic fashion. The bride took this particularly fun spectacle as an opportunity to show-off her 3.5 carat radiant cut ring from Alberta Diamond Exchange and second ensemble of the day. Evoking a sense of Old Hollywood glamour by channelling icons such as Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn with classic bouncy waves, it’s obvious why her newly minted husband surrendered to her spellbinding charm with a late night elevator rendezvous.

Alex + David

VIRGIN, UTAH // APRIL 30TH & MAY 1ST

While David was visiting his parents in Columbus, Ohio, he happened to meet Alex’s father, Frank, at a coffee shop. After two days chatting with David and his parents, Alex’s father had a thought that his daughter and David would hit it off. Frank suggested this pairing to Alex and after a great deal of persuasion followed by a touch of Instagram stalking, she agreed. The two met shortly after and have been together ever since. Four years later, it was the end of 2020 and a difficult year in New York City, New York, where the couple now called home. To propose David got down on one knee with just the two of them a few days shy of New Year’s Eve. Alex and David longed to get married, however, the idea of planning a wedding seemed like a daunting task. “We weren’t sure how we planned on getting married, or whether we should elope,” Alex admits. “Eventually we realized we just wanted to be married, and needed to come up with a way for our closest people to enjoy that moment with us.” That’s exactly what Alex and David delivered on May 1st with an intimate outdoor affair at the remote edge of Zion National Park accompanied by 55 loved ones.

With so many guests traveling from out of state for the couple’s nuptials, Alex and David wanted to find a unique location that could turn their event into a modern weekend retreat. “We loved our experience staying at Under Canvas Zion,” the bride says. Situated under wideopen desert skies with views of soaring sandstone cliffs and majestic red rock, the duo found this destination to not only feel special, but different than any place either of them had ever been to with their families. From there, it was decided Utah would allow the bride and groom to curate a memorable experience for all of their closest family members together in an atmosphere that was purely unadulterated, offering stunning vistas and a simpler, slower pace. The three day event began with a candle-lighting and Shabbat blessing following sundown at the safari-inspired glamping accommodations. The Saturday before the wedding granted time for daytime activities such as, sightseeing and guided tours allowing guests to work up an appetite for the rehearsal dinner at Lazalu followed by a screening under the stars.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 75

The wedding itself was a formal desert chic occasion with an aesthetic and color palette that naturally elevated the Southwestern landscape. To complement the quiet beauty of the terrain, planner Emmily Jones of Gatherist and floral designer Ashley Beyer, founder of Tinge, helped bring the couple’s vision to life. With warm neutrals of blush, camel, and a touch of periwinkle blue paired with playful textures and subtle geometric details, the understated appearance was rich with sophistication. The bride also enlisted the help of American designer, Christian Siriano, to concoct a custom gown that would be remembered long after the vows. The resulting dress featured a high ruffled neckline where cascading ruffles boasted one of the most impressive trains ever seen. Alex finished off her romantically feminine look with a fingertip-length veil embellished in dimensional floral appliques and exquisite beading.

78 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

Set against a backdrop of the most breathtaking mountain panoramas created by wind, water, and snow, Alex and David wed amongst the inherent beauty of Zion Canyon, a fitting name that is ancient Hebrew for a place of refuge and peace. Casual canvas folding chairs faced a simple white-washed wooden framed chuppah that perfectly echoed its surroundings. The couple held a traditional Jewish ceremony, which included the seven blessings, or Sheva Brachot, where the bride and groom are showered with seven blessings beginning with a cup of wine from which the couple then drinks. As the ceremony came to an end, Alex and David sealed their marriage by participating in the breaking of a glass. While there are several interpretations of this cultural ritual, the bride explains, “it represents symbolic hope that you will spend as many years together in happiness as it would take to collect all the pieces of the glass and reassemble it.” At the sound of the glass breaking, guests traditionally shout “Mazel Tov!” one of the most wellknown phrases that offers congratulations and good luck to the newlyweds. “It was so remarkably hard to break the glass! We must have stomped on the bag which held the glass ten or fifteen times before we finally got it to break. It was funny,” Alex reminisces.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Embrace the unexpected. Things don’t always go as planned -- gale force winds at an outdoor wedding, for example. But when you just stay in the moment and take it all in stride, you may find that some of your favorite moments looking back on your wedding end up being these unforeseen experiences. For us, all of our guests had gone before the band ever played our song, so we ended up getting a beautiful performance to enjoy just ourselves, wrapped together in blankets, and feeling like we have this whole place to ourselves. I wouldn’t trade that for anything!”

Allison + Jimmy

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO // MAY 13TH & 14TH

Before the big day, the soon-to-be weds hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Pink Adobe, a local and national landmark established in 1944 where guests were encouraged to wear hats. The bride made the event a fashionable affair in a floral mini dress and a cream-colored rancher style Western hat adorned with silk flowers she glued on herself. On the wedding day, Allison slipped into a white silk faille gown featuring a fanned ruffle detail at the bust and an extenuating drop waist designed by Markarian who is known for combining celestial romanticism with timeless design and modern silhouettes. Allison accessorized her jaw-dropping look with shoes from artistic label Cult Gaia. Anchored with the brand’s signature transparent bauble heel filled with pearlescent beading, Allison’s wardrobe is one to remember. For his look, Jimmy opted for an equally dapper ensemble wearing a brown suit from F.E. Castleberry then paired it with snaffle bit loafers and an oystersteel watch by Rolex. The couple posed for portraits among the reimagined adobe inn with Chellise Michael Photography to capture each fleeting moment.

Allison and Jimmy met the new-fashioned way as many Millennials do these days; on an online dating app. A fateful swipe right on Tinder in New York City, New York, in 2014 led the pair to meet their ultimate match. Ironically enough, Jimmy’s profile showed that he was originally from Michigan, similar to Allison, and they even shared a mutual friend in common which eased Allison’s mind in meeting someone through the internet. After a flight home to the Midwest for the 4th of July was canceled, Allison and Jimmy finally met in person for the first time on the eclectic Lower East Side of Manhattan. The two enjoyed each other’s company over cocktails with friends and made plans for an official date the following weekend. This time, Jimmy took the lead by purchasing tickets to Jeff Koons’ brightlycolored abstract exhibit at The Whitney Museum of American Art. Turns out finding your one great love in the Big Apple still exists after all. Four years later, Jimmy popped the question with an elaborate, romantic proposal. When Allison managed to snag a dinner reservation at Blue Hill Stone Barn in the Hudson Valley, she had not the slightest idea Jimmy would ask her to marry him that same evening. With two of their good friends in attendance, the four arrived at dinner early with intentions of sipping on a cocktail before their meal. Quietly, Jimmy pulled Allison away for a walk around the grounds, guiding her up the hill covered in grain right at sunset. Looking back, Allison remembers asking Jimmy if he felt ok as he started to appear ill, and that’s when he got down on one knee. “Our friends had been in on the plan all along, with the restaurant also in the loop and pulling up in a tractor immediately after the proposal with a bottle of champagne on ice to celebrate,” Allison shares. For their wedding on May 14th, Allison and Jimmy planned a refreshing escape from the city at El Rey Court in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Inspired by the Southwestern palette of Santa Fe, Allison’s leading ladies leaned into a vibrant yet mellow color choice of mismatched floor-length dresses ranging from bold sunset-tones to illustrated floral patterns, each outfitted to fit the desert garden party occasion. “I wanted every one of them to feel like they were attending the Met Gala,” Allison says. The bride held a whimsical bouquet with a mix of sweet peas and ranunculus while her bridesmaids carried a single long-stemmed flower chosen by the florist based on the dress they wore.

The couple married in the historic venue’s alfresco courtyard shaded by trees and a central fountain. Florist Melissa Paquin of Renegade Floral elevated the ceremony space by adding striking yellow arrangements with Oncidium orchids, kangaroo paw, peonies, tulips and Butterfly Ranunculus to each side of the altar along with white columns for height. It was important to Allison and Jimmy that their ceremony included intentional and purposeful elements such as lighting the same wedding candle that the bride’s parents lit together on their wedding day and special prayers offered by the couple’s siblings. After Allison and Jimmy exchanged wedding vows, the ceremony ended with a Mariachi band who ushered guests to cocktail hour followed by shots of mezcal served along the route to the next location of the evening. Allison worked with Just Lovely Weddings & Event Planning to transform the property’s romantic greenhouse into a smoking lounge stocked with cigars. The party immediately kicked off with the newlyweds first dance as husband and wife. “We had taken one dance lesson and had enough champagne at dinner that we were loosened up and not very good! But we laughed the entire time and Allison got the dip at the end that she wanted,” jokes the couple. Toward the end of the reception, a late-night snack consisted of tacos and quesadillas from a food truck to fuel guests for the unforgettable after-party.

“Trust your guts and follow your hearts when it comes to every decision! When it comes to the day of, let go and let gawd! Enjoy your day and soak it in.”

Anna + Nick

PARK CITY, UTAH

MAY 27TH & 28TH

Anna and Nick met in the fall of 2017 while both were living in the Midwest. Nick, a California native, moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to attend graduate school at the University of Michigan and Anna had recently relocated back to her hometown for a job earlier that summer. As fate would have it, the two connected through yoga at a local studio in town which would be the beginning of their adventure together. The duo spent their first date on an actual adventure hiking Pinckney State Recreation Area. After hours of talking, they quickly realized their passion for the outdoors was mutual, including activities such as skiing and traveling the world. Three years later, Nick intimately proposed on a quiet Saturday morning in the couple’s home with their beloved German Shepherd and warm donuts from their favorite diner. To honor their love of travel, the couple hosted a destination wedding in Park City, Utah, for May 28th. “As lovers of the outdoors, we wanted to get married in a mountainside town. Some of our favorite memories have been skiing, hiking, or eating in the Rockies and we wanted to share this beauty with our guests,” Anna states. At the Western-themed welcome dinner, guests were greeted with cowboy hats made from straw and red paisley bandanas to set the refined rustic mood.

On the morning of the wedding, Anna slipped into an heirloom inspired gown designed by Laure de Sagazan, paired with gold jewelry passed down from both of her grandmothers. The bride chose the French designer’s fluid and willowy silhouette adorned with modern lace for its timeless simplicity and casual elegance which transported into the ceremony. Tucked away in the countryside along the Weber River, Anna was escorted down the grassy aisle by her father as 135 guests looked on. With unobstructed views of the surrounding valleys and mountains, the vision was natural and organic. A whimsical, overgrown display of florals emphasized the ceremony site with movement, texture, and a unique shade of blue. “During our ceremony, Nick’s uncle asked us to pause and look at the audience. There were loved ones who traveled from all over to celebrate us. We saw family friends who gave us countless rides to sports practices growing up, cousins who we spent holidays with, and friends who had supported us through it all. Everyone who had shaped us was under one Utah sky and that feeling was priceless,” the bride reminisces.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Do everything possible to be present for the celebrations because you will forever cherish the memories made with everyone that you and your partner love and I can promise that the investment of time, budget, and occasional stress over the guest list or table settings is all worth it.”

After Anna and Nick became husband and wife, guests transitioned to an open air mountainside dinner party steps away from a timber framed barn. Long farm tables were topped with gorgeous pattern runners, foraged stones, and an arrangement of wildly, sprawling centerpieces. To coordinate with the stunning ranch property, each place setting was completed with an illustration of horses on the menu which included half roasted chickens with Castelvetrano olives, whole Branzino with lemon and Kalamata olives, handmade malfatti, fried squash blossoms, just to name a few decadent dishes. “While planning, we hoped that all of the carefully made decisions would give justice to the magnitude of the weekend. We envisioned our favorite people connecting over Branzino and Oregon wine, to a barn style dance party where affogato was served and our mom’s friends were boogieing it up next to our childhood friends. We spent so long dreaming of and planning for the day to watch it unfold was even better than we could have ever imagined. The energy and love throughout made time stand still,” says the bride.

Sarah + Zac

JACKSON, WYOMING // JUNE 18TH

100 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

While courtship looked much different during the pandemic, Sarah and Zac not only adapted to change, but embraced it by becoming creative, resourceful, and flexible. The two spoke on the phone every day for an entire month before meeting in person. As the world opened up, Sarah and Zac ventured out on their first date. The moment they laid eyes on each other, Sarah said, “it was over in the best possible way.” A year later, in December of 2021, the couple headed to Jackson, Wyoming, where Zac grew up and spent his childhood camping in the Gros Ventre Range, for an annual hunting trip with Zac’s father. On the way to Blacktail Butte, Zac suggested making a quick stop during the hike to check out a spot he used to love. At the secret location, Zac said to Sarah, “I buried something here when I was really young, I wonder if it’s still here?” Of course, Sarah was thinking, what could it be and there’s no way whatever he buried is still around. That’s when Zac started digging near a bush. Sarah remembers, he was on one knee while digging, yet little did she realize until he flipped around and said, “Here it is, I found it,” holding up a ring. Zac proposed under two pines framing the snow-capped Tetons in the distance, famously known as the Wedding Tree. At the mere age of ten, Zac knew this Jackson Hole gem on the Bridger-Teton National Forest would be where he would ask his bride to marry him one day. With sweet odes to the Wild West, Sarah and Zac welcomed 127 guests to the Rocky Mountains for a wedding celebration at Spring Creek Ranch.

Since the groom’s heart lies within the Cowboy State, it only seemed fitting to have a little fun with his ensemble by showing off his personal style coupled with sophisticated Western flair. The Wyomingite wore an all-black suit designed with meticulous attention to detail featuring embroidered hawkinspired feathers accented with the subtle glow of gold rhinestones, each hand set one-by-one. On the back, a large hawk extends its wings spread out wide above a canyon where rhinestone stars shine in the sky. When it came time to accessorize, Zac complemented his attire with triedand-true staples including a bolo tie, the traditional Western-style neckwear, an oval shaped brass belt buckle, and a chocolate wool felt cowboy hat.

of the wildlife sanctuary almost 1,000 feet above the town of Jackson where the scenery is second to none. A floral arch tunnel struck the perfect balance of a tropical Bali-inspired atmosphere without upstaging the valley’s unparalleled views of the Teton Mountain Range. Sarah walked down the aisle with her father, serenaded to Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me.” “It was magic,” says the bride. The reception was a lively affair with an emphasis on entertainment and dancing. As if Sarah and Zac’s wedding wasn’t epic enough, the band transformed the evening by taking the party back to the days of psychedelic rock. In addition to delivering a live rendition of songs from the best rock bands of the ‘60s to ‘70s, Sarah channeled the mystical yet moody queen herself, Stevie Nicks, whom she adores.

Sarah and Zac stuck to a color scheme of mauve and dark red with nods to the American Old West while incorporating an eclectic hippie twist that offered a stunning glimpse into who the free-spirited couple are at heart. Their invitation suite featured bold retro typography and warm tones, an illustration of the scenic landscape with hummingbirds and butterflies floating above, finished with vintage stamps honoring legendary music icons like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash. The ceremony took place near the stables

Dinah + Harley

VAIL, COLORADO // JULY 10TH

It was an obvious swipe right when Dinah laid eyes on a tall, handsome Jewish man from England, named Harley. The feeling was mutual when he saw a blonde flight attendant, who was also Jewish. Some might call it a match made in Heaven so it made sense that a proposal two years later came as close to Heaven as possible; on a mountaintop in the Rocky Mountains. The couple had moved from Miami Beach, Florida, to Colorado together when one weekend Harley suggested taking a short hike in Boulder. “As someone who for sure thought I would know when the proposal was going to happen, I can honestly say I was shocked when he got down on one knee at the end of the trail,” Dinah says. Harley asked Dinah to marry him nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by lush green pine forests of summer with, of course, their dog, Winston, in attendance. Dinah and Harley said “I do” in front of 120 guests at The 10th in Vail.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 109
110 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

The bride and groom exchanged vows underneath a floral chuppah overlooking the majestic Gore Range where a traditional Jewish ceremony was performed by Rabbi Victor Urecki in Hebrew. Prior to walking down the aisle, Dinah and Harley signed the Ketubah, a marriage contract considered to be an integral part of a Jewish marriage which was read aloud for guests to hear in English. “It perfectly conveyed how we felt and what that moment truly signified for us,” Dinah reminisces. Just moments into the ceremony, a deer appeared a few feet from the wooden deck. The bride remembers her mother-in-law gently touching her shoulder, pointing in the direction of the wildly beautiful animal, and whispering, “that’s your mother.” In 2008, Dinah’s mother passed away from cancer, however her presence was made known. “I had been begging her in my thoughts to somehow show her presence on that day and she did. The deer stayed for the entire ceremony, followed Harley and I up the mountain for portraits, and even watched the speeches through the glass windows at dinner. It made the entire day feel so spiritual and interconnected,” the bride shares. The newlyweds kissed for the first time as husband and wife before wandering into the Vail Valley with photographer Blake Hogge. Guests then proceeded to the reception which took place indoors where an abundance of all-white played into the design aesthetic. Modern sophistication with European garden influence captured the overall mood. Dinah immersed herself in wedding inspiration along with the help of Keely Flatness, founder and lead designer of Riviera Creative. A collection of taper candles, orchids, Butterfly Ranunculus, cosmos, baby’s breath and Queen Anne’s lace dotted the table linens as a free-form flower chandelier created by Marked by Alex suspended above for an organic yet refined look. Although the couple opted not to serve cake, a champagne tower ensured a pop of luxury and gave way to a spectacle of abounding bubbly. After spending the evening on the dance floor, the newlyweds were whisked away on a gondola allowing them to soak in the views at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet and reflect on their everlasting nuptials.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Give yourself a deadline to have all of your planning done in advance as a gift to yourself! I gave myself a hard stop to have everything sorted two weeks prior to our weekend so that I could just relax and focus on being present. Little things will pop up, of course, but they feel so much more manageable when you know the rest of your weekend is already finalized!”

Jenna + Nick

CALGARY, ALBERTA // JULY 30TH

After meeting through mutual friends and dating for four years, Jenna and Nick took the next step in their relationship. While Nick planned to propose on a road trip to the Oregon Coast, the global pandemic forced him to pivot his original plans and ask Jenna to marry him in an intimate setting close to home. On the couple’s fourth anniversary, Nick surprised Jenna by getting down on one knee as they walked their beloved dog through Confederation and Canmore Park in Calgary, Alberta. When it came time to plan their nuptials, Jenna and Nick knew they wanted to host a wedding in the city they call home. “Living next door to the Rockies is something we never take for granted,” shares the bride. With the help of Madeleine, founder and lead planner of Moments by Madeleine, the couple wed in front of 97 guests in a classically modern ceremony on the grounds of Flores & Pine.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 119

An elegant invitation suite featuring gold foil press and timeless typography set the tone for the classic yet chic affair where the ceremony and reception décor evoked a sense of minimalistic romance with standout details. Surrounded by a mountain-like ambiance in a romantic rural hideaway, Jenna and Nick exchanged personal vows in front of an outdoor stone-stacked fireplace embellished with an installation of ivory florals from Flower Artistry. Jenna’s seamlessly soft, French crepe gown designed by Australian label, Made With Love, commanded attention with its signature cowl back draping dramatically above a line of hand-stitched buttons. The bride completed her accessories with a cathedral-length veil, femme heels studded with pearl bead accents along the straps, and crystal pearl drop earrings crafted in the Canadian Pacific Northwest. Nick opted for a luxe look with a custom-made tux from Fari Hara tailored to perfection. From the rich velvet black jacket to the effortlessly fancy footwear, the groom too, stole the show in fashion-forward attire. For the reception, guests moved inside for dinner where a combination of family-style and round tables filled the charming Estate Room. Breathtaking baby’s breath lined the imperial long tables down the centre, romanticising the tablescape to new heights as woven rattan chargers were gently positioned at each place setting. After an evening of endless entertainment and dancing, the bride slipped into a sensational satin silhouette paired with heart-shaped sunglasses and posed with her newly minted spouse for light-hearted portraits as they popped champagne.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Hire a wedding planner or day-of coordinator if it’s within your budget! Being able to enjoy our day together with no stress was worth it.”

Kaylor + Paul

Kaylor and Paul first met after a friend set them up on a blind date. It was a serendipitous encounter and from that day forward, the two officially became a couple and got engaged just eight months later. In the spring of 2022, Paul proposed at a cherry tree farm with the help of a photographer friend to capture the perfect surprise. As a wedding videographer, Kaylor is naturally accustomed to being on the other side of the lens, but when a fellow industry friend asked the couple to stand in as models for an upcoming photoshoot, Kaylor agreed. After joyously posing with her beau, Kaylor began walking to the next location allowing Paul to get down on one knee. Kaylor and Paul planned a classic and timeless wedding with 250 guests in attendance.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Get a day-of coordinator, have a flexible timeline, and just go with the flow. Whatever comes, just enjoy the moment.”

Single stem flowers in shades of white, blush, and cappuccino lined the aisle as guests looked on. The bride and groom exchanged vows amongst an altar of soft hued florals and acrylic columns situated at the base of the Grand Tetons. After sharing their first kiss as newlyweds, Kaylor and Paul recessed up the aisle before making their way over to the reception. The couple embraced an open-air wedding that is synonymous with summer in the Rocky Mountains. Friends and family dined beneath lush greenery and natural woven pendants while a live band swept everyone to their feet. Into the evening, guests received wildflower seeds as favors with an endearing message that read, “Let Love Grow.” Following a sparkler send-off, Kaylor and Paul drove off in a golf cart and headed to Jackson Hole.

BIG SKY, MONTANA // AUGUST 5TH & 6TH

After three blissful years together, thanks to the dating app, Hinge, Meryl and Jeff traveled to Key Largo, Florida to spend the holidays with Jeff’s family. While visiting the Sunshine State, Meryl realized a few of her friends were nearby for the holidays as well, so naturally the group of ladies coordinated a couple’s dinner to celebrate Meryl’s upcoming birthday. As Meryl and Jeff checked into the hotel and found their room, Jeff wasted no time to propose.

“He knew I wanted to have a private proposal, just the two of us,” Meryl shares. Following the intimate engagement, the couple celebrated their titles as fiancé with drinks on the beach before sharing the exhilarating news with their friends that night. For their wedding, just seven months later, the duo turned to Kait Costanti, founder and lead designer of Bash to bring their vision to life.

With an ode to understated elegance, a hint of both masculinity and femininity, and the rugged beauty of Montana’s Big Sky, the collaborative effort between the bride, who has a background in marketing and fashion, and the Bozeman wedding planner created a three-day weekend extravaganza. Since guests were traveling from out of town, the New York, New York, based couple hosted an evening out to explore the vibrant nightlife in Big Sky. The following day, the festivities continued with an official welcome dinner for everyone which was intended to feel like a cowboy cocktail party complete with local barbecue, a live guitarist, and outdoor lawn games. “We fell in love with the mountains, the crisp air, the people, the booze, and even more deeply; each other. Our love story didn’t start here, but it was an adventure of a lifetime escaping to Montana during the pandemic and spending months away from home, the experience made us realize we had found home in each other. Montana became our special place and we wanted to share it with our closest friends and family,” the bride shares.

Meryl and Jeff exchanged heartfelt vows in a traditional Jewish ceremony at Montage Big Sky, set within Montana’s Spanish Peaks Mountain Range. “This was something I really wanted, although Jeff felt it was a bit personal. The rabbi agreed vows should be written, not just recited. And it was so, so special. There was not a dry eye in the room. I felt like after the ceremony all of our guests could feel the love Jeff and I share for each other, and each guest was a part of that,” Meryl reminisces. The formal reception continued indoors where expansive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the stunning terrain and majestic peaks towering above. The overall aesthetic came together organically, from the neutral color palette infused with florals in summery shades of blush, peach, and a hint of coral to give the atmosphere an instant seasonal boost to the warm and subtle tablescape with muted tones in sage and classic navy blue. As the reception concluded, the fun was just getting started. You know the saying “after the party comes the after-party.”

The bride and groom along with their loved ones bowled the night away at the resort’s Beartooth Pub & Rec where pizza and french fries were the ultimate late-night snack.

Naz +Bo

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA AUGUST 21ST

Naz and Bo were good ol’ fashioned friends long before they became a couple. As fate would have it, the pair ended up falling for each other and started dating shortly after. Two years later, Bo found the perfect opportunity to propose while the couple planned to open a café together. “One day he took me there to show me what he got for the cafe. Bo closed my eyes and we went inside,” notes the bride. That’s when the surprise exceeded Naz’s expectations. “He started to talk, however, I was so baffled and thought we were just having a romantic moment until he turned me around and I saw ‘Will You Marry Me’ written on the wall in yellow tape, my favourite colour, and the rest is a blur... it was a huge surprise for me as I did not expect a proposal to happen anytime soon!” Naz shares. Although Naz and Bo were never able to open the doors of the coffeehouse on account of Covid, the structure holds a special place in their hearts and evokes a lasting memory as they walk past it almost everyday. Despite the unpredictability of planning their nuptials during the pandemic, the couple reminded themselves to slow down and enjoy the engagement before selecting a roof top of a private residence as the setting for their wedding ceremony.

142 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

Naz and Bo married in Vancouver, British Columbia surrounded by 50 loved ones. The bride and groom hosted a colourful wedding infused with modern and vintage touches that paid homage to their Iranian culture. Prior to the ceremony, Naz moseyed to the forest where she shared an intimate first look with her husband-to-be. From there, the couple wed in a traditional Iranian ceremony performed by the groom’s grandparents which included a spread of symbolic items known as the Sofreh Aghd, some of which were sentimentally chosen, such as Bo’s late grandfather’s poetry book, baklava made by Naz’s mother, and an antique handmade silver mirror from Iran. The traditions continued with honoured rituals featuring an exchange of honey to symbolise that the couple will feed each other sweetness throughout their new lives together, burning wild rue to drive away negativity and evil, and a knife dance known as Raghseh Chaghoo that begins the cake cutting.

Once the officiant pronounced the bride and groom as husband and wife, the newly married couple strolled among their guests to the cocktail hour to relish in live accordion performances, delectable canapés, and a customised open bar featuring a margarita machine. Inside the venue, tables were draped in white linens and topped with eyecatching plateware showcasing cobalt floral motifs. From bright pinks, rich oranges, and sunny yellows to cool blues, garden-inspired centrepieces with tall stems exuded the essence of summer in Vancouver. At the end of the evening, the couple cut into a two-tiered classic white confection decorated with pretty pressed flowers that seamlessly tied into the reception stationery.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Take your time, breathe, and enjoy your day! We always heard about things going wrong despite all the planning and that was absolutely true! Expect it, and happily move on, when it happens. The wedding is so short and we don’t want to spend any of it unhappy or frustrated about something that really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.”

Gracie + Rooney

TAOS, NEW MEXICO AUGUST 26TH & 27TH

Costumes played an important role in Gracie and Rooney’s courtship. The Texas couple first met while attending a Halloween party in Austin, Texas, where Gracie was dressed as an astronaut and Rooney resembled a golf caddy. Months later, the two found themselves at another festive disco themed party where Rooney worked up the courage to ask Gracie on a date. The outcome: a wild success. After nearly four years of dating, Rooney planned a double date with their friends at the South Congress Hotel in Austin. It turned out the casual dinner had been a ruse after all. As Gracie and Rooney approached the entrance, Rooney got down on one knee and asked Gracie to marry him. Waiting inside were friends and family who traveled all the way from the West Coast to the East Coast to celebrate with the newly engaged couple. Their wedding was a continuation of fun and celebratory events leading up to the momentous day. The rehearsal dinner was hosted at the Taos Inn, a locally-rooted hotel steeped in rich history and culture where the wedding party stayed for the weekend. For the event, the couple encouraged guests to wear their best Southwestern flair for the evening.

For their New Mexico nuptials Gracie and Rooney turned to planner, Wild in Wonder, for the planning and design. They chose to incorporate the natural textures and tones of the Taos high desert landscape accented by pops of vibrant color and spunk through the floral and custom details. “The overall concept felt bright, alive, and funky, while maintaining very organic, grounded, earthy elements,” Gracie notes. Prior to the ceremony, the bride and groom chose to share a first look with each other in a serene mountain meadow of the Taos Ski Valley among beautiful summer wildflowers and a calm waterfall flowing nearby with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains spanning in the distance. “We wrote our own vows, and we decided to read them privately during our first look. We loved having that time alone to soak it all in and hear each other’s vows before the ceremony began.” During the ceremony, a dear friend performed a water blessing dedicated to the extraordinary surroundings followed by playing the flute. “It was the perfect way to show our family the magic of Taos that we love so much,” Gracie reminisces.

After their first kiss in front of an asymmetrical floral adorned arch featuring marigolds, dreamy spray roses, and overgrown ivy designed by Two Baroque Girls Floral, the newlyweds recessed back down the aisle, excited to celebrate with 220 of their loved ones. Guests mingled under twinkling string lights embraced by the lush summer greenery of the valley before walking to the Phoenix Lodge just above the ceremony site. Gracie’s bridal party donned mismatched dresses in vivacious shades of fuschia, pink and orange as the bride stunned in a sophisticated Sarah Seven gown made from fitted crepe with crisp clean lines and a V-neckline. Of course, Gracie had to style her ensemble with an ethereal custom lace cape featuring exquisite flower detailing and graceful vines woven throughout. At the indoor reception, silk napkins, transparent charger plates with a golden rim finish, textured flatware, and vivid menu cards comprised each place setting while flouncy blooms and branches displayed overhead. For dinner, everyone dined on chile roasted brussel sprouts with sesame seeds and baby kale caesar salads with garlic croutons, anchovy dressing, and parmigiano as their starter. The main course consisted of a roasted rack of lamb topped with green chile, oven roasted tomatoes and onions and green chile grits on the side. Instead of traditional wedding cake for dessert, Gracie and Rooney served mini churros with cinnamon sugar and red chile chocolate sauce. As the bride and groom danced to the final song of the evening alone on the dance floor, guests lined the exit outside with glow sticks, creating a luminescent tunnel for Gracie and Rooney to run through together as a final farewell.

Jess + Drew

RED LODGE, MONTANA AUGUST 26TH & 27TH

Before their connection turned romantic, Minnesota couple, Jess and Drew, were acquainted through mutual friends. But, one day Drew changed the relationship by successfully sliding into Jess’ DM’s asking her for a date. Little did either of them know at the time that the restaurant they chose, Masu Sushi, in Minneapolis where their first date took place, would become a long-standing anniversary tradition for nearly a decade. Six years in, Drew got down on one knee and asked Jess to marry him while vacationing in Costa Rica. Since Drew was a young child, his family has traveled to Playa Hermosa, a quiet, peaceful beach in the Gulf of Papagayo, covered with soft sand in the shades of salt and pepper. Over the years, Jess joined along on the South American destination so it was no surprise that while visiting over Labor Day Weekend in 2021, Drew proposed. Shortly after arriving, the couple threw on their swimsuits and cover-ups to walk the coast perched between two mountains. As they were walking Drew suggested finding shade beneath the trees that lined the gray-sand beach. “We sat down and Drew asked to set up my camera for a picture,” Jess recalls. While facing the opposite direction, Drew felt his pocket for the ring and proposed right there. “It was a perfectly laid back and intimate proposal which couldn’t have been more us,” the bride shares. What initially began as a casual date led to adopting a dog, moving across the country to California together and now calling the North Star State home again with two beloved dogs and a baby boy on the way.

Similar to the proposal, the couple knew they wanted a wedding that was intentional and authentic to them while maintaining a cohesively curated ceremony and reception. In place of a traditional rehearsal dinner, Jess and Drew hosted a welcome party in the quaint, historic mountain town of Red Lodge, Montana, to greet guests with true western hospitality before the big day. “Being from the Midwest, and admittedly not cowboys, we didn’t want our wedding to have a Western theme that could be taken as imitative. However, given that our wedding weekend was taking place in a truly authentic western environment, we wanted our guests to be able to experience Montana and all that it had to offer. We elected to have our welcome dinner dress code as cocktail attire and/or western optional and were so happy to see almost all of the guests arrive in cowboy/cowgirl attire,” Jess says.

The main event took place the following day on August 27th at the groom’s family home nestled among the alpine range of the Beartooth Mountains. The morning of the wedding, Jess and her bridesmaids got ready in a private modern cabin where natural light immersed through the glass windows as they snapped photos in their matching chic satin pajamas making lasting memories before the bride’s walk down the aisle. For beauty, Jess opted to do her own hair and makeup, which she achieved an effortlessly stunning soft glam look that perfectly complemented her luxurious silk slip gown with a minimalist design. For his part, the groom donned a custom beige suit paired with white low top sneakers for an undeniably cool flair.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 159

When it came to the design and aesthetics of the day, Jess leaned into a color palette that felt summery enough while incorporating subtle warm earth hues of the autumn season. “We used a mix of neutrals, deep greens, rich earth tones and pops of dark berry to really bring the idea of this shift in seasons to life,” the bride says of her vision. Guests were seated along rustic, solid wood benches facing a simple floral altar in the middle of a massive lawn overlooking Montana’s highest peaks. After Jess and Drew exchanged personal vows, the newlyweds recessed as seeds and flower petals showered down. For the reception, the couple was set on one long family-style table in hopes to create an atmosphere that felt more like an intimate dinner party rather than a formal event. The al fresco evening unfolded underneath a transparent top tent allowing a greenhouse effect where the sun’s rays soaked in till nightfall. With little to no light pollution the couple danced the night away under the stars with their nearest and dearest in a way that, once again, felt truly genuine. As the wedding wound down, the bride and groom departed in Drew’s 1988 BMW M3 which was also the vehicle he drove on one of their first dates. The picture-perfect sentimental send-off was of course, captured by photographer, Tippy Jordan.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Keep your wedding small and intimate. It was so wonderful being able to spend quality time with each and every one of our guests.”

Connie + Alex

BANFF, ALBERTA // SEPTEMBER 6TH & 7TH

Fortunately, for bride Connie, moving in with a complete stranger after seeing a roommate posting on Kijiji in 2014 worked out in her favour. It just so happened that the roommate roulette dilemma led to a new friendship which resulted in meeting Alex. After a natural progression, Connie and Alex began dating and five years later a proposal was underway. While travelling for a nursing assignment in Saudi Arabia, Connie and Alex made plans to meet in Bali, Indonesia, as it was one of the couple’s favourites places to visit. On the very last day of the trip, Alex asked Connie to marry him surrounded by the lush, tropical rainforest of Leke Leke Waterfall, a beautiful hidden gem in north Bali. For their wedding, the couple chose a Scottish Baronial style castle, commonly known as the Fairmont Banff Springs located in the Canadian Rockies. With cultural ties on both sides, Connie and Alex paid respects to their parents with a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony the day before their nuptials. To honour Alex’s Korean heritage, the couple dressed in historical Hanboks that were made in Korea. The bride’s dress featured soft pink fabric with an embroidered Jeogori, an upper garment of the Hanbok.

On the wedding day, Connie stunned in a romantically light, yet minimalistic off-the-shoulder bustier gown by Alena Leena featuring a luxurious silk blend polka dot jacquard and hidden pockets. From head to toe, the bride manifested romantic elegance in a stunning raw edge drop cathedral veil and crystal-dotted stilettos from Jimmy Choo. Alex appeared especially dapper in an impeccably tailored tuxedo from Indochino paired with brushed leather pointed loafers by Italian high-end luxury fashion house, Prada.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 169

For the ceremony, the couple kept the guest list close-knit and intimate, hosting just 50 close friends and family. Connie and Alex shared personal vows among sweeping views of the Bow Valley framed by snowcovered mountains and a whimsical floral arch made of an array of delicate blooms including roses, sweet pea, rununculus, lisianthus, phlox, and cosmos to name a few. Following the “I do’s” guests stepped inside the historic hotel for a reception dinner party where arched stone walls, large oak doors, and a statement chandelier lend to the venue’s charming character. To accent the grandeur of the room, long tables were topped with white linens, blush runners, dusty blue taper candles, and vintage, antique-style dinnerware. Just after a dinner of Alberta beef tenderloin, birch syrup glazed duck breast, and seasonal West Coast white fish, the newlyweds poured a bottle of champagne into a tower of glasses before toasting to love.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Everyone says this, but enjoy your wedding day and soak it all in. It seriously goes by so fast, but it’s honestly the best day ever. At the very least, hire a month-of wedding planner or day-of coordinator. Ours was a godsend that literally tied up all of the loose ends prior to the wedding day. She made sure everything was on time and was the go-to in case any issues came up on the wedding day. We had a very stress-free day because of this!”

Sydney + Logan

SUN VALLEY, IDAHO // SEPTEMBER 16TH & 17TH

When Sydney’s close friend introduced her to Logan, he was smitten and wasted no time getting to know her. The two lived in different cities, but Logan fabricated a fake work trip to travel where Sydney resided so he could casually take her out for a drink since he was “already in town.” His plan certainly paid off as the pair quickly connected. Two years later, Logan orchestrated quite the surprise during the couple’s vacation to Los Cabos, Mexico, with a proposal nestled along the quiet cove of Chileno Bay Resort overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Following an emotional “Yes,” Sydney and Logan headed back to the house where they were staying. What Sydney didn’t realize was that they would be greeted by friends and family eager to celebrate their newly engaged status. The couple went on to host a destination wedding on September 17th in Central Idaho’s spectacular Sun Valley. “Sun Valley has been a special place to my family since I was little, as we vacationed there in the summer to fish, hike, relax and spend time together. Logan and I knew we wanted to do a destination wedding in a location where people would feel excited to visit and go out of their way to come celebrate with us. Once we toured venues in the valley, we knew it was the place for us,” Sydney says.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 175

With its rustic elegance and tangible charm, Sydney and Logan set out to have an authentic Sun Valley wedding with contemporary yet classic nods to Restoration Hardware. They trusted their planner, Taylor Holden of Londyn & Grey, who not only saw and understood the vision, but helped execute the details. “We actually loved the entire planning process of our wedding, we chose for it to be a fun bonding experience for us,” shares Sydney. Lotus & Ash established the cheerfully stunning mood for the weekend with a custom invitation suite featuring an illustration of vibrant flowers and a beaming die cut sun to incorporate the iconic location. The couple ultimately decided to forgo a first look prior to the ceremony as Logan hoped to see his bride for the first time at the altar. “It was beyond worth it to see each other’s faces and have that incredible moment of feeling completely in awe and in love with one another,” she says. When the ceremony began, Sydney’s father escorted her in by way of the cabin, across the bridge, and towards the 185 guests as they looked on, showing their love and support. Overflowing leafy displays paired with gorgeous hydrangeas in subtle hues constructed a simple, but statement-making atmosphere. Sydney and Logan exchanged vows among soaring trees where a five-tiered chandelier suspended from the branches at Trail Creek with a glimpse of the 1937 log cabin behind them.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“When planning your wedding, remember that it all comes and goes in the blink of an eye and to truly cherish each and every step of the journey from the proposal to the honeymoon. Take the time to decide on the things most important to you as a couple and don’t worry about the rest. Our planner asked us the three most important things we wanted to focus on. We said high quality photos and photographer, an exceptional band that would deliver tons of energy and a seamless guest experience. Our planner, vendor teams, and families made it all happen for us and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how it all turned out. People still talk to us about how fun our wedding was a year later!”

178 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

Once the ceremony concluded, the bride and groom posed for portraits around the property accompanied by their wedding party. Sydney’s bridesmaids wore black floorlength gowns in different silhouettes from Amsale while Logan’s nine groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos for a cohesive, tailored look. Both newlyweds stood out in wedding day whites. That morning the bride slipped into an A-line gown designed by Romona Keveza featuring a scalloped sweetheart neckline with feminine off-theshoulder detail sleeves. The groom appeared rather dapper in an ivory jacket from Spencer Stone Co. styled with a black bow tie and black pants. Guests found their table numbers on hanging lanterns which led them to an elegant al fresco mountainside reception on the ground’s expansive manicured lawn tucked away at the bottom of the Pioneer Mountains surrounded by National Forest. There, long tables ran through the outdoor space with round tables scattered in between under a canopy of wicker pendant lights creating an intimate dinner party setting. As the sun went down and the dance floor opened, the saxophone led everyone into the tented portion of the evening where the energy level felt unmatched. After dancing the night away, Sydney and Logan equipped their bridal party with colored smoke bombs leaving a playful burst of color as they walked through the clouds saying farewell.

Lauren + Eric

DENVER, COLORADO // SEPTEMBER 24TH

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 183
184 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

While Lauren and Eric officially met in person after matching on Tinder, the two had eyes for each other long before then. It was at their alma mater, the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where Lauren and Eric took notice of one another, even frequenting the other’s social media. “We like to think that it was at DU where the alchemical foundation of our love had its beginning, and later was merely confirmed with the right-swipe on the app,” shares the couple. After a year of dating, Lauren and Eric along with her family traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, for Lauren’s 30th birthday. At a fountain in the picturesque Jackson Square, Eric had Lauren’s sister plant an empty bottle of Veuve Clicquot inside of which Eric had placed a short poem he wrote. As Eric pointed it out, Lauren, a bit perplexed, retrieved the bottle and began reading the poem at which time Eric got down on one knee and proposed. A tearful Lauren agreed to marry Eric, when a New Orleans brass band Eric hired suddenly appeared and started playing a celebratory tune. It just so happened that a group of middle school children were touring the historic park at the same time. Naturally they began cheering and ran over upon seeing the proposal. “It was straight out of a rom-com movie!” Eric jokes. The newly engaged couple spent the rest of the day successfully celebrating, NOLA-style, wandering through the French Quarter, sipping the city’s most festive cocktails before making their final stop at the renowned Commander’s Palace. The Colorado natives began planning a grand wedding in the Rocky Mountains and then the pandemic happened. “One silver lining of the Covid era is that we were granted 4.5 years to plan this wedding. Many changes were made throughout the process, but it culminated in something glorious and deeply meaningful that we will treasure forever,” says Lauren.

With multiple pivotal moments, Lauren and Eric entrusted Gabby Greenleaf of Banks & Leaf to help execute and deliver a modern, luxe, black tie affair with 150 guests to witness their love. For her wedding day look, Lauren began with a romantically alluring fitted gown by Galia Lahav featuring illusion sleeves and striking hand-embroidered lace finished with sparkly beaded fishnet. In addition to her couture figure-hugging silhouette, Lauren turned the volume up with an ethereal overskirt making all the difference as she effortlessly glided down the aisle to Led Zeppelin’s “Bron-Yr-Aur.” Eric was particular as well when it came to wedding-day fashion. He put his best foot forward wearing a Dolce & Gabbana floral design tuxedo. Synonymous with boldness, glamor, and opulence, the Italian designed attire left a timeless suave impression with its blue floral brocade and embellished gold metallics. The ceremony was set outside the walls of Space Gallery, a private, fine arts gallery and venue located in Denver’s Art District. A showstopping raised mirror aisle and arch flanked with exquisite floral arrangements in sensual gray and lavender hues set the tone for the truly magical occasion. “We chose to have our great Shamanic Healer, Ra, be the officiant. Ra’s work has its roots in Mayan and Ancient Egyptian traditions. As part of the wedding, Ra conducted ceremonial rites using sacred tobacco to bless and protect us in our joining together and journey through marriage,” the couple explains. After exchanging personal vows, the newlyweds recessed out to an aptly named anthem, “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. The reception consisted of earnest and loving speeches from family and friends while guests noshed on delicately-presented foods before finding their way to the exuberant dance floor. When looking back, the bride and groom share that having the people they love the most celebrate the most important day of their lives with them was a remarkable end to the evening.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Covid forced us to have a long engagement, which was absolutely the way to go. It allows each partner to get to know the other better and more deeply, express and learn preferences, pet-peeves, etc., and get into a rhythm of sharing one’s life, the foundation for which will already be in place by the time you say ‘I do’.”

Aysha + Drew

PRIDDIS, ALBERTA // SEPTEMBER 25TH

Aysha and Drew first matched on Bumble in October 2018 and connected right away. So much so, that a year later the couple travelled to the Kananaskis Range in the Canadian Rockies where Drew got down on one knee on a frozen lake in December surrounded by snow-covered pine trees in the high alpine. Immediately following the wintry proposal, Drew surprised his newly-minted fiancé with an engagement celebration in Canmore, Alberta, complete with Aysha’s family and friends in attendance. For their wedding, the bride and groom selected the Azuridge Estate Hotel nestled in the rolling hills southwest of Calgary, and invited 125 guests to join them at the luxurious hidden jewel.

194 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

For the autumn nuptials, Aysha chose a sophisticated palette of black and white that felt totally timeless while showcasing a modern chic aesthetic and stunning, contemporary design. To help her pull it off, Aysha worked with Calgary based wedding planner and designer, Blush & Co., who made her visions a romantic reality. This included an overflow of fresh greenery that dripped down from the ceiling, a black backdrop displaying the newlyweds’ shared name in neon lights, and sleek life-sized signage to point guests in the right direction. The bride wore a fitted silhouette gown with short sleeves and a keyhole back featuring floral embroidery atop nude mesh and classic Stuart Weitzman pumps. Bold as ever, the bridesmaids leaned into an edgy yet elegant ensemble wearing the same colour, but a different style of dress or suit as some of her leading ladies took to a more tailored look. Drew and his groomsmen charmed in black suits with matching ties and white button-down shirts. After a beautiful ceremony set amongst the property’s manicured lawn, the evening transitioned indoors for dinner where a white glossed reception table paired with black chiavari chairs and gold flatware awaited. Keeping to the unexpected, refined drama of the day, Aysha and Drew cut into a moody layer of black fondant dripping with personality. The dark decadent dessert maintained a classic two-tier shape finished with an intricate hand sculpted design cascading down the sides.

Janice + Will

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA // OCTOBER 1ST

What happens in Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas; at least for Janice and Will, who met there during a separate trip with friends. “We were both living in different cities at the time, but our love for the same DJ and pool parties brought us together,” Janice shares. Seven years later, Will proposed in Montréal, Québec, during the couple’s favourite season. It was autumn at Mount Royal Park where trees transform into vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red when Will got down on one knee and asked Janice to marry him. When it came to wedding planning, the couple decided on a modern, industrial venue located on the historic shipyards waterfront in North Vancouver, British Columbia. For the October 1st nuptials, Janice worked with Bright Gray Events to help turn her vision of a modern wedding with a bohemian twist into a reality.

rocky mountain bride volume eight / rockymountainbride.com 199

With an unobstructed view of the urban city’s skyline surrounded by coastal water, the ceremony took place on the third level of the reconstructed machine shop featuring an expansive 2,400 square foot outdoor patio. The processional included the bride and groom’s two dogs who were walked down the aisle with the wedding party. Janice was then escorted down the aisle by both her mother and father as 180 guests looked on. A circular ceremony arch sprawling in roses, ranunculus, dahlias, fresh foliage, and feather-like pampas grass served as the altar where Janice and Will exchanged vows and said “I do.” After they shared their first kiss as husband and wife, the newlyweds exited the ceremony with the perfect dip and another kiss which they made sure to practice in the days leading up to their wedding. They then invited guests to head inside for the reception which included long family-style tables swathed in white linens, deep olive green runners, gold charger plates, and burgundy-toned floral arrangements dotted down the centre. Hanging rattan pendant lights and a neon sign that said, “The Chias EST 2022” created the ultimate party atmosphere. “We both agree that dancing the night away was one of the best and most fun moments we’ve ever had thus far. Most of our guests, about 80% of them, were from out of town so it was amazing to finally have all of our loved ones in the same room to celebrate and let loose! Everyone, from the toddlers to the seniors, were on the dance floor - it was the best feeling to see not just us, but everyone in the room, enjoy themselves so much,” the couple shares.

Demi + Brett

BIG SKY, MONTANA // OCTOBER 8TH

New York couple Demi and Brett met while attending Florida State University. Fifteen months later, they were engaged. Brett proposed on October 22nd at a friend’s family ranch in Grand Junction, Colorado. After experiencing much-loved adventurous activities on the property from horseback riding and hiking to four wheeling through the picturesque landscape, Brett planned a surprise dinner within the horse stable. “The chef walked me up to the barn where Brett was waiting inside, down on one knee holding a ring,” Demi remembers. The rustic atmosphere of the barn was turned into a quaint escape with bistro lighting hung from the wooden balcony above, and floral arrangements placed throughout the open space while tall white pillar candles and lanterns illuminated the room. Demi of course, said ‘Yes!’ With a renowned engagement in the Rockies, it was no surprise when Demi and Brett chose to wed at Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, Montana. “We quickly decided that we wanted to be in the mountains, out west, for our wedding. We feel most connected to God and each other in nature,” the couple shares. With the venue’s fair share of natural splendor nestled in Yellowstone Country, the bride and groom hosted 94 of their nearest and dearest to experience the Wild West and witness as they said “I do.”

208 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride volume eight

The ceremony took place in an open field situated on 148 acres of untamed wilderness with impressive views of the alpine forest and the rugged outline of the Spanish Peaks towering in the distance which served as an awe inspiring, natural backdrop. The bride walked down the aisle blanketed in nearly 15,000 white rose petals scattered by The Wild Blume. Beneath a wood-framed arch elevated with garden roses and greenery, Demi and Brett exchanged vows with one another and shared communion as one of their first official acts as husband and wife while family members sang Chris Tomlin’s rendition of “Amazing Grace” with a cellist and guitarist performing along. The beautiful hymn was a tribute to Demi’s brother who passed away shortly after the couple were engaged. During the ceremony, a butterfly gently floated around guests, even circling the bride and groom before flying away. “I have always loved the symbolism, beauty, and spiritual nature of butterflies. It felt like a reminder that my brother was present, whether he was physically there or not, and a gift to be starting a new transformative life with my husband,” Demi shares. Afterward guests gathered indoors at Horn & Cantle located on the ranch’s property for dinner and dancing. Seating assignments were framed by an antique gold, ornate mirror on vintage stationery dotted with wax seals. At each place setting a personalized thank you note from the newlyweds expressed gratitude for sharing in the celebration and the meaning behind their wedding date. The reception was a lively affair with heartfelt speeches leaving everyone in attendance with tears and smiles on their faces. Demi and Brett then danced to ‘Dancing’ by Elevation Worship followed by a surprise mother and daughter dance. “Brett’s cousins are extremely talented singers, so we asked them to sing our first dance song ‘Over the Rainbow’ by Judy Garland for my mom and me,” Demi says. The bride and father shared a sentimental moment dancing to “Wind Beneath My Wings,” the same song that her father and grandmother danced to at his wedding. Since the newly married couple stayed in a private cabin on the 100-year-old ranch-turned-resort, they were able to bask in the celebration before saying goodnight.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“I am a person who loves details and really wanted our guests to have an intimate and elaborate experience connecting with each other and us... with that said, it felt like I could not do ‘enough.’ A dear friend told me, ‘every couple eventually runs out of money and out of time.’ It made me laugh but also was so reassuring and reminded me that a wedding really isn’t about all of the ‘things’ and your guests are there to celebrate the bride and groom. The bride and groom set the tone for the wedding, have fun, be present, take time to take it all in and once the weekend begins, just trust the process and know that it will be perfect no matter what happens.”

Cory +Zachary

BUENA VISTA, COLORADO // OCTOBER 10TH

Cory and Zachary met on Tinder in April of 2020 and were a match from the very start. “We are very much a true pandemic couple,” the pair says. For their first date, Cory and Zachary went on a socially distanced walk through a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, park that lasted nearly seven hours and consisted of three different stops for coffee. The dynamic duo beat the odds of finding love in the time of coronavirus. They were engaged fifteen months later on a summer evening in August at the same park. “We sat at a picnic table, poured some bourbon and exchanged rings,” Cory reminisces on the casual yet intimate proposal. When it came to planning their October 10th nuptials, the couple packed their bags and headed to the Rocky Mountains for a classically, elegant wedding at the Surf Hotel and Chateau in Buena Vista, Colorado.

Inspired by Zachary’s custom orange cashmere tuxedo from NL Suits, the grooms embraced the warm color palette that comes with the autumn season for the aesthetic of their day. Cory and Zachary’s tailored looks were complemented by two very special accessories. The diamonds set in the wedding bands they exchanged were originally from a single ring given to Zachary from his late father. “Having his stones in the rings we exchanged was a really special way of feeling connected to him at that moment,” they share. On the morning of the wedding, the couple drove from Buena Vista to Salida to collect their marriage license prior to the ceremony. “The stunning scenery, the fall foliage, the chilled autumn air, and the time for the two of us to spend alone in excited anticipation of what was to come will be a core memory. To top it all off, when we pulled up to the Salida Courthouse, there was a family of deer grazing about five feet away. It was almost too idyllic!” the couple illustrates. Later that day, Cory and Zachary vowed a lifetime of eternal, immeasurable love tucked away between majestic mountain peaks and the Arkansas River. The ceremony space featured two free standing columns which held an assortment of textural florals and fresh foliage at the perfectly framed stone archway altar. After “I do,” the newlyweds invited their loved ones for a seated dinner reception among French doors and arched windows overlooking the waves of the Buena Vista Whitewater Park. As the party got going, Cory and Zachary hit the dance floor with Mannequin the Band playing on stage. The celebration continued into the night causing the couple to even miss their coordinated sparkler send-off; fortunately the music-inspired soirée cultivated a welcoming atmosphere where guests could let loose and make lasting memories with new and old friends.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Shed any expectations and think about what you really want for your wedding. There is no one way that your wedding has to look. Being a same sex couple, we were able to shed a lot of traditions. Spending the entire day together including getting ready together, we were able to really stay in the moment. Spend some time considering how to get friend groups and family to intermingle before the wedding. We had friends put together little excursions on the wedding day from hikes and hot springs to brunch with open invites to all guests and it was awesome to see people become instant friends. We even had a group of people who had never met summit Mount Princeton together before the wedding! To top it off, we intentionally sat people with people they had never met. By the time guests got to the dance floor they were very comfortable with each other and now, even back in Milwaukee they are setting up hangouts with others they met at the wedding.”
