Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge

239 Turpentine Creek Lane

Eureka Springs, Arkansas 72632

Phone: 479-253-5841 www.tcwr.org

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) licensed, 509 (a) 2, as described in Section 501(c)(3), non-profit certified facility, dedicated to the rescue and care of exotic and native wildlife, focusing on Big Cats and bears. Our mission is to provide lifetime refuge for abandoned, abused, and neglected ‘Big Cats’, with emphasis on tigers, lions, leopards and cougars.

TCWR is regularly inspected by the USDA and houses an assortment of exotic and native animals, including lions, tigers, leopards, and other big cats as well as black bears, brown bears, and a variety of other animals. Animals are generally rescued from private owners who can no longer care from them, or they are confiscated by law enforcement authorities in cases of abuse and neglect and given a permanent home at TCWR.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is a legitimate sanctuary and does not buy, sell, trade, breed, or loan-out any animals. All residents are given a high level of care in a safe environment throughout the remainder of their lives.

All animals are cared for by a permanent animal care staff of 7 biologists/zoologists, and a bi-annual intern staff of approximately 15-18 college/university graduates. The animals receive extended veterinary care by Dr. Kellyn Sweeley at the Refuge’s onsite Jackson Memorial Veterinary Hospital.

Education is at the heart of their mission, and they offer educators a unique learning opportunity. With the advent of the pandemic, and the big cats’ susceptibility to the virus, the Refuge adapted and now offers unique virtual learning opportunities for educators as well as for parents looking for ethical activities for their children.

You can take your experience to the next level by reserving one of ten unique lodging options. Go to sleep listening to lions’ carol and awaken to the rumble of tigers! From adult-only Safari Lodges to their pet-friendly family Suites and popular Tree House, there is something for everyone.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge operates primarily on admission, lodging, retail sales and donation revenue, and does not receive fed eral, state, or city funding.

HISTORY

The Rogers-Lowell Area is a great place to experience an amazing range of historical sites. Numerous museums and parks bring alive the past in exciting ways. Both Walmart and Daisy Manufacturing have their roots in Rogers, creating hundreds of local jobs throughout Northwest Arkansas. The Rogers Daisy Airgun Museum is home to the world’s largest collection of antique airguns, BB guns and commemorative rifles. Annually, coaches bring their seven-member, four-position 5-meter BB gun teams to participate in the Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match held in Rogers. The Daisy Airgun Museum now has the Largest Daisy BB Gun in the world for the perfect selfie spot in downtown Rogers. A trip to Rogers would not be complete without stopping by the Rogers Historical Museum to learn the history or the city. Check out the events hosted by the museum throughout the year.

The four core values of safety, teamwork, excellence, and compassion serve as beacons for all staff at Arkansas Children’s Northwest.

The emer gency department at Arkansas Children’s Northwest is staffed with pediatric emer gency medicine trained physicians and nurses. Open 24/7, parents can have peace of mind their children will get the right kid-sized care they need and access to the region’s most qualified pediatric spe cialists. Teamwork | A growing multi-disci plinary team of committed experts make up the staff at Arkansas Children’s Northwest. Not only do the clinical staff have specialized training in working with children, the entire team works together to ensure patients have the best possible care.

Compassion

|

Caring for children and their families with compassion is an utmost priority. To help the staff and lead ership best understand the patient experi ence from a parent’s perspective, ACNW recently formed the Family Advisory Board (FAB). The FAB is comprised of a diverse group of parents from the Northwest Arkansas community who gather monthly to offer feedback and insight on existing and new services available at the hospital. Listening to their valuable point of view is helping improve Arkansas Children’s

Northwest for all who come for care.

Excellence | From the moment a patient and their family enter the doors at ACNW, a deep commitment to excellent patient care and overall experience are recognized. Excellence is exemplified by our surgical team at Arkansas Children’s Northwest through staff and physician expertise and overall patient experience. A wide variety of surgical services are offered at ACNW, including general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, urology, and more. HEALTHCARE

The past couple of years presented many challenges for airports across the nation, but as Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA) ’s numbers continue to rise each month, officials are excited for the future and what 2022 has in store for Northwest Arkansas. Here is just a brief look back at XNA over the past year as well as a look at what is in store in the near future.

Amid an unprecedented shift in the aviation industry, XNA added 10 nonstop routes over the last year, making a total of 27 nonstop routes available for passengers. Additionally, XNA welcomed Breeze Airways in June of 2021, a brand-new airline adding three nonstop routes to New Orleans, San Antonio, and Tampa.

More good news coming out of 2021 included the continued progress on the Access Road to XNA. A fully controlled access highway approximately 3.4 miles long with a new, grade-separated trumpet-type interchange at Highway 612 is in the works, and would provide reliable and efficient access for passengers traveling to XNA from the south.

The Skybridge will enhance passenger ingress and egress to and through the terminal from the parking lots and deck. Improvements include enclosed elevated walkway to sepa rate pedestrians from the vehicular traffic, redundancy for the passenger moving walkways and elevators, and terminal lobby renovations.

XNA has many exciting new projects that will begin to improve the aesthetic and expe rience at the airport in 2022. To start off 2022 with a bang, XNA completely redesigned their logo and brand style guide. The new logo includes a sleek, modern design that is cohesive with the NWA Council’s Regional Branding initiative. XNA is also partnering with OZ Art to curate two murals on its maintenance buildings on the north end of the property. A goal of XNA is to include more art at the airport to reflect the region as a whole.

STAY CONNECTED TO THE GOOD LIFE

116 | THE GOOD LIFE

For 100 years we’ve been bringing people together to grow business, activate leaders and build community. VISION 100 was developed by engaging in a process of discovering the kind of future our Rogers-Lowell community wanted. Residents were given opportunities last year to express their ideas in an online survey and a series of community tables. Through this discovery, we learned what our community envisions for itself in anticipation of our area reaching a population of 100,000 before 2035.

Since 1989 the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce has been the Keeper of the Community Vision and proactively collaborated with city and regional leaders to produce strategic visioning plans. Our vision for Rogers and Lowell is a vibrant, diverse, and cohesive community in the heart of Northwest Arkansas, with a willing spirit, a healthy focus and a progressive attitude, possessing the core values of faith, family, community, education, and economic prosperity. We will advance these values by preserving and recognizing our heritage, taking action in the present, and pursuing a dynamic future. VISION 100 is our most recent program developed to pursue this vision. Click
