HAPPENINGS October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Bahrain is going all out to spread the word. Helping this cause since 2004 is Think Pink Bahrain, a non-profit organisation, founded by Julie Sprakel. Over the years, Think Pink has been raising funds towards the national campaign for the early detection of breast disease, which screens residents over the age of 40. The organisation is dedicated to increasing breast cancer awareness issues, especially early detection, thereby saving lives. Here’s how you can help – mark your diaries and participate in these Think Pink charity events. Remove your shoes, feel the sand between your toes and relax at the first Pink Beach Party at the Overlook, from 8pm. Enjoy specially crafted pink drinks and a scrumptious buffet as you dance to the beats of the DJ’s latest tunes. Guests will also have a chance to take away some creations and help raise funds for Think Pink. When? October 2 Event? Bike Ride Venue? Harley Davidson, Budaiya Put on your leathers, grab your helmets and ride away for charity. The Annual Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOG) will once again ride this month for breast cancer awareness. Bikers will leave the Budaiya shop/ team house by 8am. When? November 6 Event? Pink Zumbathon Venue? The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain Hotel & Spa Let your steps make a lasting footprint on a charitable cause. The fourweek long Zumba extravaganza, designed by the Royal Sporting Club for Zumba enthusiasts from around the island, will lead up to the Pink Zumbathon on November 6, from 7pm until 10pm. When? October 21 Event? Abseiling Venue? GIB Building, Manama Push yourself to the limit, conquer some fears and face a real challenge with the GIB abseiling event in support of Think Pink Bahrain. Participants will abseil 170 feet down the Al Dowali (GIB) building. The 50 highest pledges will get the chance to abseil. The minimum age requirement is 21 years. Entrants must seek advice from their doctor in advance if they have any medical conditions or concerns. Email GIB.thinkipink@gib.com with your pledge, to register.
Zumbathon. This event is for ladies only and open to the public. Royal Sporting Club members and outside guests will be required to make a minimum donation of BD1 per person and all proceeds will go to Think Pink Bahrain in support of breast cancer awareness.
