Welcome

Dear Friends,

On behalf of our Board of Directors, volunteers and employees, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024 American Red Cross on Long Island Heroes Celebration. Thank you for joining us tonight and for the important role you play in supporting our mission.

The past few years have shown us that Red Cross services are needed now more than ever. Each day our dedicated team of volunteers delivers help and hope to families who have lost everything to a home fire. They also provide support and training to the heroes who serve in our military. They teach life-saving skills and emergency preparedness to children and adults. These dedicated individuals train to be able to deploy and support our neighbors in need across the country, whether responding to a tragic southern hurricane or a relentless wildfire out west.

Tonight, we are honored to recognize incredible partners and local heroes who exemplify the spirit of the American Red Cross:

2024 Corporate Leadership Award: Global Industrial Company

2024 Humanitarian Award: Jon Ledecky, Co-Owner, New York Islanders

2024 Good Samaritan Hero Award: Anthony Lagos and Kevin J. Losee

For over 100 years, the American Red Cross on Long Island has helped the community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Thanks to your support, our daily impact is continuous and immeasurable.

Sincerely,

Welcome

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the entire Board of Directors for the American Red Cross on Long Island, I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2024 American Red Cross on Long Island Heroes Celebration.

I know that I speak for the entire Board when we say that we are proud to serve this organization that touches so many lives on Long Island and far beyond.

The Red Cross Long Island Chapter is a volunteer-powered organization that boasts more than 800 amazing volunteers from every walk of life. With the financial support of people like you, our dedicated volunteers care for communities in need during the most challenging of times and in the most challenging of circumstances. The Red Cross is there 365/24/7 to bring hope when and where it is needed most.

The Red Cross mission goes far beyond responding to disasters. The Long Island Red Cross installs free smoke alarms; provides emergency preparedness education; teaches safety skills like First Aid and CPR; reunites families separated by armed conflict and natural disasters; and offers compassionate support to veterans, active military personnel and their families.

Thank you for joining us as we celebrate a remarkable humanitarian mission that has supported Long Island for over 100 years, and as we honor an extraordinary group of individuals and partners who embody the spirit of the Red Cross.

Sincerely,

Corporate Leadership Award Honoree

Anthony Lagos and Kevin J. Losee

Anthony Lagos and longtime friend Kevin J. Losee were sitting outside the Burger Boys restaurant in Glen Cove, NY, on August 31, 2023, enjoying a warm evening summer breeze, when the sound of shattered glass made them jump from their seats. Just across from the restaurant on Alvin Street, they saw a two-unit residence engulfed in flames. Lagos and Losee risked their lives to save residents from the blaze, entering the building and helping people out to safety. As the fire department worked to put out the fire, Lagos brought the residents back to his restaurant where he offered his neighbors food, drinks and whatever clothing he could find. They later hosted a clothing drive and fundraiser to help the residents replace what they had lost.
