Strawbale insulation was my go to option as an alternative sustainable building material. It could be really beneficial because it has a higher “R” value, meaning it is able to store in the heat/cold air in the building. While being incredibly ecofriendly, it profuces essentially no pollutants during creation. It could be disposed in an inexpensive and eco-friendly manner. If built correctly, it could lasts for 100 years! Also, it passes the two hour fire rating that is required for construction.

Although, some cons with straw bale insulation is that they are heavy and large, so moving them could be labour intensive. Since it is built by stacking, it has the potential for structural movement. Working with straw can also lead to irritated skin as well.

In conclusion, straw insulation is a very eco friendly sustainable material. This alternative was chosen for the Grandpa’s Abode ADU that was assigned in the same semester.
