Savannah is easily one of the most enticing weekend destinations within driving distance of the Queen City. This coastal city, with its ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss and character-defining antebellum architecture, is as steeped in history as it is invigorated by the arts.

Savannah-Style Luxury

Nestled in the bones of a historic bed and breakfast, Bellwether House is a boutique luxury hotel that welcomes guests 21 years of age and older. The Bellwether perfectly balances enough modernity for its rooms to feel breathable, clean, and hip while maintaining a respectful nod to its historical, 160-year-old roots, resulting in accommodations that are stylish but completely unique.

Each of the Bellwether House’s four categories of rooms has a max occupancy of two people, and, due to age of the structure, expect each room to differ from the others of the same category when you return for your next visit. Garden Suites, located on the main level of the house, feature paved brick floors and direct access to the courtyard area. Queen Suites, located on the first and second floors of the house, offer an exterior private entrance as well as direct courtyard access. King Suites, where we stayed, include comfortable seating areas, desks, large bathrooms, and wardrobes.

There are two reasons in particular to book Bellwether: the excellent location for walkability and Savannah beauty, and the incredible hospitality and attention to detail offered inside Bellwether’s doors.

For breakfast, afternoon high tea, or a private dinner, guests can enjoy exclusive access to the Bellwether House dining experience, spearheaded by Chef Ryan Whyte-Buck, who was trained during the culinary renaissance that took place in turn-of-the-century Portland, OR before passing several years cooking in some of New York City's top kitchens. Patrons can sample bold Indian flavors that have been fused with Southern cooking traditions. The breakfast and afternoon high tea, elevated by a full spread of pastries and cakes created by pastry chef Tamara Curtis, are included in a Bellwether stay, as are evening champagne toasts. There’s also a beautiful coffee bar that will whip you up your choice of coffee shop-quality beverage each morning, and will serve you your favorite adult beverage by night.

Just around a mile away, Bellwether’s owners also have a restaurant (featuring Chef Whyte-Buck as well) called Folklore if you feel called to venture beyond the hotel’s dining program.

Sustainable practices are prioritized not only in the kitchen (through local/seasonal sourcing and a robust composting practice), but throughout the house. All furniture and goods incorporated in the experience are purchased with an eye toward fair wage labor and sustainable production, so guests can feel good about feeling good during their stay.
