Nothing beats a big bowl of ice cream, especially when it is homemade and farm fresh. It is for this reason that Maryland created an Ice Cream Trail four years ago, the first of its kind in the country. Each year during the month of June (National Dairy Month), Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail launches a passport program to encourage visits to each participating creamery. Folks get their passport stamped during each visit, then submit the passport for a chance to win prizes. Of the state’s 450 dairy farms, eight offer on-the-farm ice cream, including three within a 30-minute drive of Downtown Frederick.
