DIRECTIONS TO PPAC
From points north: take 95S to the Atwells Ave exit 21. Go straight through 4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th traffic light onto Broad St, which becomes Weybosset St. From points south (take 95N to Point St exit 20) and from points east (take 195W to Point St exit 1A): proceed straight at the traffic light at end of exit onto E Franklin St. At Broad St, turn right at the light (Broad St becomes Weybosset St). PPAC will be on the right side of Weybosset. From Worcester/Western Massachusetts: Take 90E to exit 10A (Worcester/Providence, Route 146/20), which will lead to Route 146S (Providence). Take Route 146S and merge onto 95S in Providence. Then, follow directions for “from points north.”

Please be sure to leave yourself adequate time for travel and parking so you may be in your seats before curtain time. Touring shows mandate that we hold latecomers in the lobby until an appropriate moment in the performance before seating them (sometimes as long as 20 minutes) in order to minimize disruption to other audience members.

A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER is an “inspired and hilarious” (The New York Times) musical comedy that won four 2014 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Inspired by Roy Horniman’s 1907 novel Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal, GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE tells the uproarious tale of Monty Navarro (played by Kevin Massey), a distant (and penniless) heir of the D’Ysquith Family who takes matters into his own hands and slays his eight familial competitors (all played by John Rapson) to acquire the family fortune. All the while, Monty must also juggle two romances, one with his cousin, Phoebe D’Ysquith (Kristen Hahn), and another with Sibella Hallward (Kristen Beth Williams), who has already married for money.

Of Monty, director Darko Tresnjak says, “He’s a talented ambitious young man….and everyone in the audience responds to ambition. What I said, from the moment I started working on [GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE] is, ‘this is the comic side of The Talented Mister Ripley.’ Why do people like those Patricia Highsmith books and movies? Why do we like to see people get away with it? Because, a part of us wants to get away with it – whatever it is. In this instance, casting is very, very important. And, it helps that the family is odious. And there is an injustice, they treated Monty’s mother like hell.”

That being said, the show is also tremendously funny. Book writer and co-lyricist Robert Freedman said, “Steve [Lutvak, composer and co-lyricist] and I had a tremendous amount of fun writing it and we kept making sure that we were keeping everything consistent in tone. And we just cracked each other up writing lyrics. We wrote lyrics together in the same room, which some people can’t conceive of, but that’s exactly how we did it. And so it was fun!”

PPAC ANNUAL GALA: SPEND THE NIGHT WITH BILLY CRYSTAL
J.L. “Lynn” Singleton, President of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), is pleased to announce that beloved comedian and frequent host of the Academy Awards,
BILLY CRYSTAL will perform at the 2017 PPAC Annual Gala on Thursday, March 23 at 7:30P.
The PPAC Gala is a fundraiser for the Theatre and is a black-tie optional event. Gala tickets include prime seating to the performance, postshow party at PPAC, and parking. Gala tickets are tax-deductible to the extent provided by the law. Individual Gala tickets may be purchased for $300 NOW by emailing Donna Santos at dsantos@ppacri.org

USHER OF THE MONTH
Suzie Miller has been recognized as the Usher of the Month for October 2016. Suzie, and her husband Marc, are currently serving as volunteer ushers for their eleventh year.
Suzie frequently works at the door, but is equally proficient working on any aisle in the orchestra or balcony. She is always extremely pleasant and helpful with patrons, and an excellent usher no matter where she works. Congratulations, Suzie!

MACY’S FAMILY NIGHT AT THE KING AND I
Wednesday, November PPAC hosted Macy’s Family Night at THE KING I. Student groups, including Saint Pius V School Providence; Taunton High School; and Global Learning Charter School in Fall River, were among the first see the National Tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s KING AND I.
PPAC President J.L. “Lynn” Singleton said. “On behalf the Theatre, we thank Macy’s for their continuing support of our Family Night program. Their sponsorship allowed the program thrive and has given so many children the chance see beautiful and fun productions at our Theatre the years.”

The PPAC Marketing Staff is pleased to welcome Julianne Panico as our new Digital Media Assistant. Julianne recently graduated from New England Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in Graphics, Multimedia, and Web Design.
