Friar Coaching Staff One of the top goaltenders to ever play at Providence College, Bob Bellemore is entering his 19th season as an assistant coach with the women’s hockey team. In addition to working with the goaltenders, he assists with scouting and various other duties. He is also involved with the USA hockey elite training camps that take place in Lake Placid, N.Y. Coach Bellemore helps lead the goaltending segment of the camp. As a sophomore in 1964, he helped the Friars win their first ECAC title and earn their first berth in the NCAA Final Four. Bellemore also starred on the school’s baseball team Bob Bellemore, and served as the team’s captain his senior year. In 1984, Assistant Coach he was inducted into the Providence College Athletic Hall of Fame. Bellemore began coaching as a part-time assistant for PC’s men’s hockey team. In 1972, he joined head coach Lou Lamoriello’s staff as a full-time assistant - a position he held until 1986. In 1986-87, Bellemore held the title of Arena Director and was in charge of the day-to-day operations of Schneider Arena. Bellemore left Providence College in 1987 to serve as the goaltender coach for the New Jersey Devils. In 1991, he left New Jersey to pursue his master’s degree at PC. He earned his master’s degree in special education and was employed as a special education instructor at South Kingstown High School. He is now retired from his duties as a guidance counselor at South Kingstown High. A native of Smithfield, R.I., Bellemore resides in Westerly, R.I., with his wife Marguerite. He has one son, Bruce, a 1991 graduate of PC, who played hockey for two seasons for the Friars. He also is the proud grandfather of eleven. Bruce and his wife Eileen, who also graduated from Providence, have triplets, Brendan, Jolie and Laurel and the grandchildren from Marguerite’s children include Zachary, Devon, Sofia, Cole, Christopher, Alec, Luke and Sebastian. Alyse Ruff enters her first year as a graduate assistant for Providence. The Bend, Ore. native, who is pursuing a Masters in Business Administration degree, will work extensively as a video coordinator. Ruff joins the staff after a stellar, four-year playing career with the Friars. She registered career totals of 42 goals and 50 assists for 92 points – the best four-year Friar total since Kristin Gigliotti (103) and Sonny Wattrous (137) graduated in 2007. In addition, Ruff is third on the Providence career games played Alyse Ruff, list with 142. The Providence co-captain during her Graduate senior campaign of 2010-11, the center was Assistant second on the team with 26 points, helping guide PC to the program’s ninth consecutive trip to the Hockey East Semifinals. Ruff led the team with 20 assists and a remarkable plus/minus rating of +26. She was second on the squad with four game-winning goals, including an overtime strike at Colgate on October 16. Ruff garnered several individual honors during her playing career. She was the only unanimous selection to the Hockey East All-Rookie team in 2008, a 2010 Hockey East Honorable Mention, and a three-time Hockey East Academic All-Star. She also earned multiple spots on the Jewish Sports Review’s All-America team.
