The Ballad of Margie Polite If Margie Polite Had of been white She might not’ve cussed Out the cop that night. In the lobby Of the Braddock Hotel She might not’ve felt The urge to raise hell. A soldier took her part He got shot in the back By a white cop – The soldier were black. They killed a colored soldier! Folks started to cry it – The cry spread over Harlem And turned into riot. They taken Margie to jail And kept her there. DISORDERLY CONDUCT The charges swear.
