2022 OVERVIEW

Indoor sensors that can fl ip!

FlipX indoor sensors from Optex feature a bespoke pyroelectric sensor that adapts to the human shape and a lens that can be ‘flipped’ to provide both narrow and wide detection in a single sensor.

By simply rotating the lens through 180°, the sensor can be used to protect narrow or long area such as a hallway up to 18m, or a wide, open area like a living room or retail store up to 12m at 85°.

FlipX Standard, the first to be released from the new series, is a Grade 2 sensor that also features a digitally enhanced signal recognition logic called Super Multi-Dimensional Analysis (SMDA), that means nuisance alarms caused by changes of light or temperature can be avoided.

FlipX Standard is available as a PIR model – FLX-S-ST – and for more challenging indoor environments as a dual-technology (PIR and microwave) model – FLX-S-DT. The latter is equipped with a robust microwave module, ensuring the durability of the sensor in challenging environments, particularly humid climates, and higher levels of capture performance by tailoring the microwave to the IR detection area. optex-europe.com

Access terminal specialised for facial recognition

In 2022 Suprema launched BioStation 3, a contactless access control terminal specialised for facial recognition.

In addition to facial recognition various other contactless credential options are offered to enhance user convenience, including QR codes, barcodes, mobile access cards and RFID cards. BioStation 3 features increased usability and a compact, slim body that is reduced in size by 47% compared to Suprema’s predecessor, FaceStation F2, allowing for easy installation on any door, from small offices to enterprise environments.

Suprema has also utilised a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to provide facial authentication. BioStation 3 is an ISO/IEC 27001 certified edge device that can run AI algorithms locally with an embedded NPU to maximise the performance of the AI engine. Accurate authentication is possible even for faces with various types and colours of masks, hairstyles, hats and glasses.

One of the initiatives in protecting personal data is Face Template on Mobile which is an authentication method independently developed by Suprema that allows users to store and manage their facial authentication template on their mobile phone without having to store it in the company’s database.

New 64 channel NDAA compliant NVR is launched

IDIS enhanced its range of enterprise-class network video recorders in 2022 with the launch of a 64-channel model, the DR-8564.

The NDAA-compliant 4K recorder boasts an incoming throughput of 540Mbps and up to 1920ips UHD real-time recording, the DR-8564 utilises Intelligent Codec to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements, and gives users the assurance of RAID 1, 5, and 10 as well as redundant power.

With recording and simultaneous live view capabilities with no visible latency, the DR8564 offers inherent cybersecurity, and critical redundancy, while reducing cost and complexity. Leveraging IDIS DirectIP and FEN (For Every Network) technology, the DR-8564 benefits from simple plug-and-play installation and one-click configuration for multi-site deployments as well as supporting ONVIF for third-party camera integration.

Ideal for a range of mid-large sized applications, the recorder comes with the assurance of cybersecurity combining TLS with IDIS’s proprietary protocols, plug-and-play mutual device authentication and two-factor authentication. IDIS iBank, a database structure and Chained Fingerprint, also ensures the integrity of recorded footage for use as forensic evidence. idisglobal.com

Software for tailored redundancy applications

Secure Logiq unveiled Logiqal CORE, the latest addition to its portfolio of HD surveillance storage solutions in 2022. Logiqal CORE is a software layer that has been designed to provide tailored redundancy for security industry applications and offers benefits to users in two main areas, virtualisation and resilience.

With Logiqal CORE, identical or disparate operating systems can be installed on a single server across a number of Virtual Machines (VMs). This overcomes application features and limitations. Implementing Logiqal CORE translates into lower total costs of ownership by reducing the number of physical servers, resources, rack space and power requirements.

Over the next few pages we take a look at a few of the products that caught our eye in 2022 to give you an overview of some of the more interesting technology highlights of the year.

Sensors capable of detecting gunshots and raising alarm

3xLogic’s Gunshot Detection devices use patented concussive wave technology to detect the moment at which a gun is fired, and the bullet leaves the chamber. Upon firing, the force of the bullet leaving the chamber creates a concussive wave within a defined frequency range. Although concussive waves in the air cannot be seen by the naked eye, the Gunshot Detection device is tuned to detect those waves from any calibre gun.

Gunshot Detection devices, single or multi sensor, easily and seamlessly integrate with other security systems. When a gun is fired in range of a sensor, the sensor will raise a contact closure to alert monitoring systems. 3xlogic.com

Hybrid DVR enables gradual upgrade to IP technology

It is a hybrid recorder compatible with AHD, HD-TVI, traditional standard definition analogue cameras, and IP cameras. The DVR offers a range of features suited for advanced applications, including remote monitoring station integration, P2P connectivity for remote viewing on mobile devices, and compatibility with the license-free iPIMS VMS.

Ideal for pre-existing AHD Installers requiring a gradual upgrade to IP, hybrid support allows users to use cameras from separate platforms using the same cabling infrastructure.

Fire detector range features patented smoke chambers

The FireProtect 2 lineup from Ajax included, at launch, seven models of fire detectors. The re-engineered detectors feature a patented smoke chamber that is ultimately dustproof and impenetrable for insects, thermistors that ensure rapid detection of temperature spikes, longlasting battery life, and many accompanying hardware and software improvements.

The FireProtect 2 lineup features detectors of two enclosure types. Depending on size, they are equipped with different sensor combinations. Detectors with a bigger enclosure feature a smoke chamber plus a temperature sensor, and an advanced version also features a CO sensor. The smaller ones have no smoke chamber and feature up to two sensors: a sole temperature sensor, a sole CO sensor or both “under the hood”.

Detectors have different battery options. The RB models feature replaceable batteries that provide up to 7 years of operation and SB models work 10 years from sealed batteries (can’t be replaced, require entire detector replacement).

There is no need to disassemble the detector during installation. With an upgraded SmartBracket panel, an installer can effortlessly fix the detector and level it at 90 – degree angles after mounting.

2022 OVERVIEW

Handheld solution analyses mobile signal

BT Redcare launched a handheld mobile signal checker, called the Mobile Signal Analyser (MSA), enabling installers to quickly determine the best location to fit mobile network connectivity-reliant alarm signalling solutions. Ensuring they can get deployment locations right first time,MSA checks the strength of 4G and 2G networks across the UK’s four MNOs. Working in conjunction with the BT Redcare app, it’s a small box solution that links to compatible smart devices via Bluetooth. MSA can check individual networks for signal strength, availability, and number of cell towers available, while also performing holistic analysis across all networks. Additionally, it possesses an analytics mode so network strength can be monitored over time. btinstallershop.bt.com

App supports users with remote access control

The new image-led and responsive app features a simple and intuitive dashboard to present daily monitoring and management of devices. All operating in real time, with no software installation required, the app ensures users can check their status across Comelit’s product portfolio on a remote basis, making sure they are connected and fully operational. comelitgroup.com/en-gb/

Wireless access system for full lockdown control

SMARTair from Abloy UK offers users the ability to open, lock or maintain access to individual doors or zones to deal with an emergency. With a single command, doors equipped with SMARTair devices may be set to ‘Block Mode’ and can only be unlocked with a specific credential.

This means that apart from designated staff, no one on-site can move around freely. Alternatively, the ‘Emergency Close’ function can lock all openings remotely and simultaneously, but an authorised credential may still unlock them.

As a third option, every device can be set to ‘Emergency Open’, which unlocks them all. This could provide fire services with instant access to a whole building or site, for example.
