Pickering College Graduates

What distinguishes Pickering College is its focus on values education. “We explicitly teach students about values and how they can demonstrate values as leaders,” says Peter Sturrup, Head of School. “Our students have the ability and the responsibility to make changes in the world.”

Katharine Starr ’20

St. Francis Xavier University

Katherine was an active participant in the Debate club including serving as Captain in Grades 11 & 12. Katherine also served on the Student Committee, was a Pickering College Ambassador and a member of the Jazz Band. She was active in athletics as a member of the soccer, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee teams. Katherine participated in the Duke of Edinburgh program, earning her Silver award. Outside of school, she was engaged in her community as a volunteer at Southlake Hospital, a Special Olympics Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach and a volunteer for the 100 Men Who Give A Damn organization. Katherine was Valedictorian for the Class of 2020 and is studying Public Policy and Governance at St. Francis Xavier.

Daniel Jiang ’20

University of Michigan

Daniel was a member of the Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, and Track and Field teams. In addition, he participated in the CIS Music Festival and served on the Music Council. Daniel was a recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award. Daniel’s most memorable moment at Pickering College was his trip to Italy, while riding the cable car in Sorrento and sitting on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Daniel is studying Engineering at the University of Michigan.

Deven Hansraj ’20

Western University

Deven was a committed member of the boys’ Basketball and Soccer Teams, and was the recipient of the Coaches Award for Senior Boys’ Soccer in Grade 12. He also honed his leadership skills as a member of the Co-curricular Council, and was an active participant in the Fitness Club. Deven is studying Medical Sciences with Advanced Entry Opportunity to the Ivey Business School at Western University.

Yagmur Ozturk ’20

McGill University

Yagmur was a member of the Volleyball Team, Youth Action Organization, and Green Team and was one of the lead organizers for the TEDx Conference at Pickering College. Yagmur joined Pickering College as an international boarding student from Turkey and served as a Proctor in Firth House. Yagmur is studying Arts at McGill University.
