It’s a far cry from the normal way of entry into South Philadelphia politics, which is the ward structure. And the South Philadelphia wards — 1st, 2nd, 26th, 36th, 29th, and

39th — are strong democratically and with active Republican leadership as well. Those normally seeking entry into the political system gravitate to the leaders of those wards by growing involved in the normal chores of ward activity: getting registrations, turning out the vote, and helping raise funds. Lawyers, particularly, know

they need to provide pro bono services for the constituents referred by ward leaders. Then, eventually, with ward-leader support, those seeking public office are giving the blessings and eventually go on to victory. This departure from that system does not preclude its members won’t seek ward leaders support. But it does ensure its membership financial support should they make a run in the political arena.

(Cont. from Page 1) will open at 12 Noon on Sunday and admission is free.
