WEEK 24: DEC 10 - 16

BE STILL BY PASTOR BR AD LIE BE BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD! I WILL BE HONORED BY EVERY NATION. I WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. P SA L M 4 6 : 1 0 ( N LT )

I want you to take a moment with me and imagine a different life for yourself before the invention of electricity. When we lived in a dawnto-dusk world, you might be riding on a horse across the empty countryside. Perhaps you would work on a farm in the field. Some of you would work in town around others. Regardless of your profession, silence would fall every night. There would be moments to collect your thoughts and listen to God. Finding those moments of silence today, is hard. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love our modern conveniences. If I had to choose to live in any time period, it would have to be after the invention of electricity and indoor plumbing. But these conveniences come at the cost of built-in peace and quiet. These days, even if you’re a cattle rustler on the plains, you can watch videos on your phone all night. We can fill our days with endless entertainment. This struggle doesn’t make our modern conveniences or technology inherently bad; it just means we must seek peace on purpose. There was a moment in the life of Elijah when he ended up at the mountain of God. There was a fire, an earthquake, and a significant wind, but God was not in those moments. After the blazing, ground-shaking, and ear-splitting moments, there was God’s still, small voice. Elijah walked away changed.
