On the Cover This year’s cover photography was taken at the wedding of Montana and Chase Wimbrow. The couple married at one of the Emerald Coast’s newest venues, The Alice located in Destin. While the couple lives in Biloxi, Mississippi, they both spent their childhoods vacationing in Northwest Florida and knew they wanted to marry there. The Alice checked all their boxes with waterfront views, beautiful accommodations, and a staff that kept true to the couple’s vision from first meeting to married send-off. Every couple of years, I find myself drawn to a new aspect of weddings. When I started as editor, it was all about the fashion for me. When I was engaged, it was the elements of planning, from florals to dining. In the years following my marriage, I sought the wedding portraits, specifically first looks or saying vows at the altar. This year, when looking at wedding galleries, I find myself scrolling to the reception and lingering on the mother-son dance. I take in their smiles, their tears, the special, monumental moment shared between mother and son. By the time this issue is out, I will have welcomed my second son. Music has always had particular influence on my life. While I love him for a multitude of reasons, it checks out that I married a musician. At our wedding, much attention was paid to the music from the songs we danced to, walked down the aisle to, and were on the set list for our band compiled of hand-picked Nashville musicians. I danced to “Letting You Go” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit for my father-daughter dance. Hearing the song will always make me teary-eyed, accompanied by a smile. The song’s lyrics reflect a man who raised his daughter to be her own person, doing the best he could, but knowing one day she would forge her own path—exactly as my own father did for me. I wonder what songs I will dance to with my sons. Will it be a song we both loved since their youth? A song they discover on their own? A song they write themselves? I am curious about what their music tastes will be and how their brains will work to make the ideal choice. If they will want to choreograph a dance or simply sway, relishing in the moment. But happily, there are many years of getting to know them until that time. For now, I will hold these small boys in my arms, doing all that I can to make them loving, kind, strong, committed partners one day. That’s my wish for mothers, fathers, and those who fill those roles for children: that they find

comfort in knowing they raised someone loving and those children marry someone who will in turn love them well. For the couples reading this who are recently engaged or in the process of planning, the decisions you make for your wedding day should be intentional and reflective of you. As they say, trends come and go. What stays? The sunflowers in your bouquet because they are your favorite, wearing your dad’s watch, serving a recipe that rivals your grandma’s for the reception dinner, dancing to the song you and your mom used to blast full volume in the car. Montana and her husband, Chase, grew up vacationing in Destin and knew they wanted to marry there. Originally, the couple had booked their wedding at another location in Destin, but they still didn’t have a rehearsal dinner location because their venue was booked the day before. The couple and their families were in Destin for their annual Fourth of July trip, which Montana was also utilizing as a rehearsal dinner search. Her father-in-law was the one who discovered The Alice while taking a drive. Captivated by the beautiful entrance, he drove in, took a tour with the owner, and found out their rehearsal dinner date was open. The next day, Montana toured The Alice to see it for herself. “I went and toured the venue and said without a doubt this is where my rehearsal dinner will be,” says Montana. “I loved the venue so much that I called my dad and said I want to move my entire wedding to The Alice.” Four months from their wedding day, the couple pivoted with the help of The Alice staff, who were able to accommodate all their needs and keep all their previously booked vendors. “The team made everything so easy and were so willing to lend a hand at whatever was needed,” says Wimbrow. “Kristin (general manager) was always a phone call or text away.” With their venue secured, Montana was able to achieve both a timeless and elegant wedding with coastal influences. “We both love the feeling that the ocean and the sun give you,” says Wimbrow. “We knew we were not getting married in our
hometown, but we knew we did not want to do a faraway destination wedding. Destin was perfect.” Growing up on the Gulf Coast, the couple had mutual friends in common and were friends on social media when Chase messaged her asking her to dinner. She agreed, and they were inseparable for the eight years since. He proposed at one of their favorite places—the walkway bridge to WaterColor Town Center in Seaside, Florida.

The day brimmed with countless sentimental moments honoring Montana’s mother and highlighting her relationship with her father.
Before walking down the aisle, Montana took a moment to reflect on the eight years they had spent together. “I played a voice recording to Chase that I made and told him I am so honored and excited to be his wife,” says Wimbrow. “I told him if the things to come were as incredible as the things that have already been, then I can’t wait to see what our future holds.” Another important man in Montana’s life is her father. As an only child whose
mother passed away, Montana and her father have a particularly strong bond. For the father-daughter dance, he asked her to dance with him to a song he had written and recorded himself that detailed beautiful and important moments of her life. “I cried like a baby and still listen to it to this day,” says Wimbrow. “It’s forever a keepsake. My first look with my dad was also something out of a storybook of a dad and his daughter. It was so special and emotional and sacred to us.”
Montana also did a first dance with her grandmother where they danced to her mother’s favorite song. Throughout the day, there were sentimental tributes to her mother, including a chair in the front row that each member of the bridal party placed a white rose on. Montana surprised everyone by turning her mother’s wedding dress into a dress she wore to the rehearsal dinner. “Our wedding day was so emotional and intimate,” says Wimbrow. “It was even better than I dreamed of, getting to spend the weekend with all of our closest friends and family and finally saying I do to the man of my dreams.” ▪

Coastal weddings have not wavered in preference for this very reason; one of the most beautiful days of your life is made all the more beautiful by the setting. While coastal weddings will remain among the most coveted spots for couples to wed, there’s a unique appeal to the Emerald Coast.

From beach to bay and all waterways in between, a wedding on Northwest Florida waters is unlike any other with gorgeous, photo-worthy backdrops.
These beaches are relaxed yet refined. The Gulf and local waterways are charming with pockets that emphasize untouched nature. The feel is less commercial and more local, where hotels, resorts, and venues don’t view your event as just another beach wedding. SET THE SCENE When selecting your ceremony and reception spots, you should consider both your wants and needs. If you want a toes-in-the-sand ceremony and a property that has multiple reception spaces, a resort or hotel would be a great option. Additionally, resorts can typically host all of your attendees while providing amenities to be enjoyed the entire wedding weekend. When speaking of Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, Angela Kramer, wedding sales manager, says, “Couples can incorporate details like customized menus, bridal party spa treatments at Serenity by the sea Spa, sunset beach ceremonies, and private dinners at Seagar’s Prime Steaks & Seafood to make the celebration feel more personal to them and their guests.” If you don’t want to be on the beach but would still love water views, consider a waterside or bayfront venue. “While we are not beachfront, our position along the bay offers a quieter, more refined alternative where the water feels expansive, serene, and ever-present,” says Kristin Sullivan, general manager of The Alice in

IMMERSE IN EXPERIENCE “We are seeing a shift away from the traditional pretty ceremony on the sand toward something far more immersive,” says Sullivan. “Today’s couples are seeking curated, design-forward experiences that feel personal, relaxed, and deeply connected to the setting.” This could include fresh coconut water served via coconut at the ceremony and followed by beach-themed specialty cocktails or mocktails at the reception; an acoustic performance of beach-inspired music to lure dancers to the sand or dance floor; or a live painter who captures the sunset on your wedding day for you to keep forever. When at the beach, couples are extending the wedding experiences to weekend-long celebrations to further treat their guests and themselves. “Many celebrations now include beachfront welcome parties, sunset receptions, rehearsal dinners, beach bonfires, spa gatherings, and curated group activities,” says Kramer. “We’re also seeing increased interest in wellness-focused offerings, including spa treatments, couples’ massages, beach yoga, and relaxation-focused amenities incorporated throughout the celebration.” ▪

ME: 2027 will bring more twopiece looks and peplum skirts, texture, lace toppers added on top or under the gowns (giving a two-in-one look) and maybe even some color added to gowns. I also think mermaid dresses are coming back, which makes me very excited because that is what I wore for my wedding in 2013. Q: FOR A BRIDE OR GROOM LOOKING TO MODERNIZE THEIR LOOK OR INCORPORATE THEIR PERSONAL STYLE, WHAT ACCESSORIES OR UPGRADES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? ME: I would suggest pairing a personalized veil with embroidery to commemorate the couple or the occasion date. We love adding the names of the bride and groom or their wedding date to the veil. Other ways to incorporate their personal style would be adding jewelry that has sentimental value or wearing their mom’s veil or accessories. Grooms can wear a fun sock or cuff links that have meaning. Q: CAN YOU NAME A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE WEDDING DRESS OR SUIT BRANDS FOR MEMORABLE, UPDATED STYLES? ME: We travel to New York Bridal Fashion Week twice a year to see the trends on the runway months before they are released to brides. Our favorite designers that keep up with the trends are Monique Lhuillier, Sareh Nouri, and Anne Barge. Q: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR COUPLES WHO WANT TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEIR FASHION CHOICES BUT MAINTAIN A TIMELESS APPEAL? ME: I think brides should be less worried about a timeless look and incorporate their personal style in their wedding day apparel. Morgan: “We’ve done an oyster shucker, a person passing out caviar, and a cannoli guy, which is unexpected during cocktail hour. For drinks, guests ring a bell for champagne, and a server passes glasses through an interactive wall, or couples create signature drinks at the bar named after their pets. We have had customized espresso martinis with the wedding date or the couple’s names. We’ve used rice paper with logos or photos that dissolve in martinis. There are interactive martini stations and mimosa bars with juices and toppers.” Penniman: “Who doesn’t love gourmet passed appetizers, charcuterie tables, oyster bars, and seafood stations? We make a lot of paella, with a four-foot pan that makes a splash. We greet guests when they arrive with a signature cocktail or glass of champagne, which takes pressure off the bar.”

Morgan: “During dinner, we do stations to get guests up from their tables and interact with each other and the chefs. We just did a wedding for an Italian bride who shared her family recipe for chicken marsala, and our chef nailed it. We’ve done Caribbean weddings, and they shared family recipes, too. Stations are a creative way to tell a story about who the couple is. We see couples introduce foods from their home city, like St. Louis pizza, or a version of what they had on their first date.” Penniman: “Our stations are escalated. Our taqueria station has braised duck breast and a 5-pound smoked grouper that has become a selfie superstar. Don’t expect boring lettuce and tomato because you’re getting microgreens and cabbage slaw. Even things like cheeseburgers and chicken fingers, we do them our way. Our burgers are featured in a sliders station and are so good that they don’t need ketchup.”
Keep dessert sweet and memorable
Morgan: “Lately, there are smaller wedding cakes, which are more for photo opportunities, accompanied by dessert bars. We offer little tarts, brownies, a scoop-your-own candy bar, or a chocolate fountain. In any of our dessert displays, we pull in the wedding florals. Some brides want a long sheet cake with candles, flowers, and fresh fruit. A nice touch is a
coffee cart person. Now, everyone wants an espresso martini tower, where the couple pours from the top, and it trickles down. This is for the last hour of the party to keep it going.” Penniman: “The biggest wow factor is our bananas Foster set up with the chef cooking, ice cream in martini glasses, and tons of bite-sized desserts. We have tiny carrot cakes, mini key lime pies, and crème brulés in demitasse cups that are just two spoonfuls. We have a blast with a crème brulé station and do flavors such as Meyer lemon, double vanilla cream, and more. Our bread pudding bar is fun and flavorful. We’ll have double vanilla, chocolate, bananas Foster, and more. We have done pie bars with little hand pies, like coconut cream, with fresh berries. To end the night, there’s a praline guy with a copper kettle, and he drops the praline on a white marble slab for the guests to take home in white boxes.”
Bring after hours back
Courtney: “We did something adorable with grab-and-go pizza slices in heartshaped boxes with the couple’s monogram on a sticker, plus pizza cutters as a favor. We see a lot of Whataburgers in the South and pretzels filled with nacho cheese.” Penniman: “Some couples want fast-food burgers, but we cook on-site and produce something much better, like a triple grand cheeseburger with truffle parmesan fries
or fried chicken and waffles with bourbon maple syrup and hot honey. We do our own corn dogs with Conecuh sausage from Alabama, the best sausage in the world. How about a mini muffaletta wrapped in butcher paper and chef’s twine to stick in your pocket and eat on the way home?” ▪

But one thing that can’t be captured ahead of time is your posing. In the moment, when you strike your pose, you want it to deliver everything you hoped your wedding aesthetic to be. You want that bridal timelessness to translate to posts and frames. Northwest Florida local professional photographer Sydney Jeter says it all comes down to vibes and energy in the moment. “As photographers, it is our job to help a couple feel comfortable in front of the camera,” Jeter says. “This comes from trust built and natural conversation. Our energy will set the tone.” Find the right photographer for you— someone who you are comfortable around.

But I still bring a calm and easy energy and treat them like friends,” Jeter says. “I believe they can feel this, and it allows for love to flow freely between them as personalities come out.” For those who experience camera shyness, it can help to practice ahead of time to ensure comfort in front of the camera.

Here are some easy directionals Jeter offered to help any couple strike their best pose during the wedding day shoot:

“Practice taking pictures together and being candid with a camera in front of you,” Jeter suggests. While practicing your pose can be helpful, Jeter says don’t try to plan it down to a science. Try simplifying with one practiced pose and good posture. Photographers should offer consultations to ease any worries and avoid day-of concerns. This can be done in person or over video chat and is a great opportunity to discuss any preferences for posing, backdrops, staging, and placement of the wedding party. “It is important to hear from the couple what kind of posing they desire and how hands-on they want me to be,” Jeter says. “From there, I gauge their natural personalities.” Couples can even book a practice shoot or engagement shoot ahead of time to ensure a comfortable flow. “I love getting to shoot my couples’ engagement sessions,” Jeter says. “We get to become friends, they get to experience being together in front of a camera, and it makes the wedding weekend feel way more natural because we have established trust and comfort.” It never hurts to turn to Pinterest for some added inspiration or to scroll wedding photography social media pages.
Jeter is an advocate for a natural, candid shoot. Often, she’ll give simple prompts to couples during day-of shots that require little instruction. “I let them know that they can do their thing for a few minutes, and I’ll be snapping,” she says. “Then I step back and let them proceed.”

POSING THE PARTY
Planning wedding party photos can be an added stress, especially if family and friends have selective needs or requests. Communicate with your party to indicate whether you plan on incorporating candid moments as well as properly posed shots. This way, they can come in aware of the camera’s presence and practice ahead of time if needed. Respect special requests to your preference and within reason. Be sure to make use of your venue’s environment beyond the beautiful backdrop. You can utilize stairs for staggered sitting, pose in front of greenery, or incorporate any aesthetic architecture. For couples who want to incorporate their children into their wedding photos, Jeter suggests walking hand in hand with the kids in the middle as well as fun and candid dance break shots or squatting playfully next to them. our wedding aesthetic is the look, feel, and feelings you desire to create on your wedding day, which can include the color palette, attire, decor, menu, florals, and more. “From the moment a guest opens their invitation, they should get a sense of what they are being invited to,” says Dania Irvin, owner of Dulce Events Planning & Design in Tallahassee. Broad aesthetics include bohemian, rustic, modern, romantic, classic, beach, and many more. Or, you can elect to get more specific, such as Regency-era romance, ’60s-inspired art deco retro, cottagecore, Gothic romance novel, or ’90s chic. “Every detail, from the linens and florals to the lighting and entertainment, should all feel connected as guests move through the space,” says Irvin. “Guests may not consciously notice every detail, but they will feel it when the entire event feels purposeful from beginning to end.” Deciding on your wedding aesthetic is an enjoyable element of wedding planning that is important to many of the decisions you will make leading up to your dreamed-about day.

you will likely find colors, flowers, and design choices that speak to your style. Think a bit outside the box and consider art whose color palette or theme you find appealing: a historic time period with fashions that entice you or books and movies that have impacted the way you view the world. TELL YOUR STORY The most important aspect of finding your aesthetic is that it’s true to you as a couple. Think about who you are and what’s important to you, be it culture, family traditions, religion, or heritage. From there, consider adjectives that could describe you, and lean into representing those through your aesthetic choices—fun, refined, bubbly, classic, romantic, colorful, reserved, and so on. “Rather than buying trendy items, couples are choosing to incorporate meaningful pieces that tell a story or carry on a tradition and create a sense of nostalgia,” says Irvin. Irvin notes that many couples are pulling inspiration from their parents’ weddings, including vintage heirlooms such as lace veils, linens, silver, pearls, and other attire. John Gandy, owner of John Gandy Events in Tallahassee, adds, “Genuine design elements that reflect the couple’s personality are important. Guests are observant and can tell when a wedding’s style doesn’t feel authentic to the couple.” This could include tying in decor from the city you met or your favorite travels; asking your caterer to make food from your culture; tying in your favorite colors to the florals or bridal party attire; meaningful photos throughout the reception space; or a specialty cocktail named after your beloved pet. VISUALIZE YOUR VENUE Since your venue is one of the first things in the wedding process that should be booked, it’s key to consider the aesthetic of your venue when determining your overall wedding vibe. For example, a downtown rooftop would lean more toward a modern aesthetic, where a waterside ceremony
would be beach coded. Take note of the color scheme of the venue to ensure your colors don’t clash, and consider the existing decor, what you can utilize, and what can be added. With some venues, because of the natural beauty or architecture, you may not need to do much, while other venues may call for more creativity. CONSIDER THE SEASON If you’re getting married in December but have always dreamed of a pastel wedding, by all means, pursue it. But if you’re seeking guidance, consider the season. Summer and spring lend themselves to lighter and brighter colors, breezy fabrics, refreshing libations, seasonally inspired menus, and careful consideration of the weather, especially in Florida. Fall and winter tend toward darker, moodier hues, comforting foods, warm beverages, and an overall coziness. GEARED TOWARD GUESTS Gandy notes that many couples are opting for smaller, more intimate

room full of all your nearest and dearest is one of the best aspects of a wedding. Where those closest to you should be seated in that room is often one of the most challenging parts of the planning process. Fortunately, wedding planners are adept in dealing with all sorts of seating situations and can ensure that all attendees are seated comfortably and stylishly. THE WHO & THE WHERE Traditionally, at the ceremony, the mothers of the couple are seated in the aisle seats of the front row followed by fathers, siblings, grandparents, and other specified close family members. Depending on how large the family is, this could encompass one row or several. These seats can be marked as reserved for family, and often ushers are utilized to escort family members to their seats.

Simply Seated
If you have a bridal party but opt not to have them stand at the altar with you, they should be seated in the rows right behind the family. From there, seating at the ceremony is open to the attendees’ preference. Some couples opt to designate a bride and groom’s side, while others view the practice as outdated. “Ceremony seating is typically pretty straightforward, but for more intimate ceremonies,” says Kelly Rhodes, owner of Southern Frills Weddings & Events in Pensacola, “I like to place the couple in the middle and arch or encompass chairs around them.” Reception seating requires more planning. “Many couples assume that assigned seating isn’t necessary because their friends and family will be more comfortable choosing their own seats,” says Dania Irvin owner of Dulce Events Planning & Design in Tallahassee. “In reality, we often find the opposite to be true. Guests appreciate the comfort and certainty of knowing exactly where they belong, especially when they may not know everyone in attendance. A thoughtfully planned seating chart removes the stress of finding a place to sit.” You know your guests best. Whether you’re doing the seating chart on your own or enlisting the help of a

items placed near the entrance that direct guests to their tables. Place cards are on the table in front of each chair to indicate where each guest should sit. This can be especially important for plated dinners. Seating charts could be printed, painted, illustrated, or laser-cut on a variety of materials or fabrics. Seating charts have appeared on floral walls, maps, wooden pallets, hanging from arches, surfboards, paint swatches, decorative pots, and more. “I love incorporating beautiful wallpaper, vibrant plants, or even trees as structural elements to display guest information,” says Gandy. Escort cards often double as a gift or treat for the guest. Think the guest’s name and table number attached to or etched on a luggage tag, candle, custom olive oil bottle, a miniature bouquet, a sweet treat, calligraphed coaster, or framed picture of the couple and guest. Sip and seats have become especially popular, including ideas like a flute of champagne, custom cocktails, liquor shooters, coffee, or mocktails. Place cards or table numbers could be put on records, books, snow globes, crystal balls, flower arrangements, wine bottles, and more. “We’ve seen table numbers on bottles of their favorite wines, tables named after their favorite songs, destinations, cookie escort cards, and even tables numbered with a photo of the couple at that age,” says Irvin. “These are wonderful conversation starters and give guests another glimpse into the couple’s love story.” ▪
school friends with similar interests. While you’ve likely heard of a “singles table,” this is usually an isolating, if not awkward, thing to do. Instead, mix in a few single friends with a few couples. Other seating considerations include elderly guests or those with limited mobility. It is often best to place these guests near exits and restrooms and away from loudspeakers. The table style depends on what your preference is. You may want everything to be uniform with the same number of people at each table or to vary the groupings. Rhodes likes to include a mixture of rectangles, rounds, squares, banquet seating, and serpentines to add both variety and fun visual elements. “I enjoy incorporating unique touches like couches or residential furniture, especially for outdoor ceremonies,” says John Gandy of John Gandy Events, servicing Tallahassee and beyond. “Using small furniture groupings can make the space more interesting.” THE HOW How you tell your guests their seating placements is the fun part, as you can get creative. When it comes to conveying the message, the options typically include a seating chart, escort cards, or place cards. A seating chart is signage placed near the entrance, listing table numbers and who is sitting at them. Escort cards are individual cards or

planner, you’ll need to consider who would make good seat mates, who wouldn’t, and where they should be in the room. Rhodes collects all of the RSVPs in a spreadsheet. From there, she considers the table options and how many guests can fit at each table, which could vary based on the shape or size. Then, she consults a floor plan of the venue. Having access to the floor plan provides insight into where the entrances and exits are, along with the dance floor, stage, restrooms, and any other important elements. Knowing this allows you to properly place the sweetheart or head table in a place of distinction and build out the rest of the seating chart to revolve around this. “Parents and immediate family are typically given VIP seating with a clear view of the couple, special dances, and toasts,” says Irvin. “From there, we focus on creating tables where guests will feel comfortable and connected. Friends, coworkers, and extended family members are often seated with people they already know, helping conversations flow naturally.” Outside of the bridal party and family tables, couples tend toward natural groupings such as seating coworkers, friends from college, extended family, etc., together. You could also opt to combine some groups that would get along, like a few coworkers alongside some high
