Posed to Mix and Mingle Co-ed yoga set to rocking beats brings together singles for fitness and fun. By Ashley Huntsberry-Lett If you’re looking for a date, but want to ensure you’ll meet Neapolitans who are focused on maintaining a balanced lifestyle, Bija Yoga owner Jamie Shane has developed a new event at her studio where single yogis can come together for class and then socialize at popular hot spots afterwards. “A friend of mine said, ‘Hey, you’re single. Lots of people are single. You should throw a singles’ party.’ So I did,” Shane says. For only $10, guests enjoy a 90-minute yoga session open to all skill levels while listening to live, funky music from DJ Shawn Smith. Participants have then gotten to know one another after class at various downtown locations that change according to performances and events. The next meet is scheduled for March 9. Shane mentions, “We need yoga dudes!” These meets are a fabulous way for active, likeminded people to network and forge deeper connections with each other. Breathing is our most basic and immediate requirement for life. Choosing what you breathe can have a significant effect on your health, which is why Naples residents are now skipping the beach and flocking to the Salt Cave (saltcave.us) on Tamiami Trail to get their dose of salty air. Once inside, visitors lounge in chairs or on benches and focus on the purity of their deep breaths. With the ceiling, floor and walls lined with fine-crystal salt and a salt generator that releases salt particles into the air, this room simulates the healing environment of a natural salt cave in Eastern Europe. As visitors inhale, the micro particles of salt travel through the body’s airways, destroying bacteria, absorbing fluid to reduce inflammation and widening the respiratory tract for facilitating sinus drainage. This all-natural healing process, called halotherapy, is especially beneficial for those who suffer from allergies, asthma, bronchitis, sinus infections, ear infections, emphysema and even snoring. The exposure to crystal salt particles also calms the nervous system to help visitors relax while eliminating toxins to improve the look and feel of skin. In addition to halotherapy sessions, the Salt Cave offers a variety of other services, too, like salt scrubs for gentle exfoliation, relaxing mineral body wraps and polarized light therapy to help ameliorate acne.
