Slapstick
The blow of his hand sends me backwards, nearly tripping over my own feet. I assess the damage. Red, hot rash right on my cheek. Blood pumping. Brain spinning. Some words form and escape my mouth. “I guess I deserve that.” He strides away. My limbs go completely limp. Hayley Potts 1st Place Y9

Cat
She watches you balefully from her throne. Whiskers twitching and eyes half-lidded. Tigers and lions have nothing on her. She is regal grace personified. Once, her species were worshipped as gods. Thin handshakes amongst boxed white walls Stretched smiles They brush their fur with gel Trap their ideas into suitcases of befouled brown leather. Emily Ardern 1st Place Y13
