Hoodoo Ski Area and The Suttle Lodge became the backdrop for a pair who wanted play, spontaneity and the comfort of familiar mountains. And at Juniper Preserve, a couple welcomed guests into the landscapes that shaped their life in Bend, offering a retreat-style experience from the first gathering to the beginning of life as newlyweds. Kalie and Zach’s story began freshman year at the University of Oregon, where their friendship quickly grew into a love that carried them from college to building a life together in Los Angeles, where they now live. For Kalie, Central Oregon was already home—she was born and raised here—and it didn’t take long for Zach to fall in love with Bend’s spirit as well. Choosing to celebrate their wedding in Kalie’s hometown meant introducing their California-native guests to the culture and landscapes of a place they both cherished. The venue at Juniper Preserve met all of their desires. With lodging on site, guests were able to make the weekend a true retreat of golfing, lounging poolside and gathering before and after the wedding. It set the stage for a celebration that combined rustic elegance with the modern comforts of a destination event.

Creating the Magic

With McKenzie Wiggers of The Indigo Bride at the helm, the planning process was seamless. She guided each decision with care, creating space for Kalie and Zach to enjoy the experience while bringing their vision to life. Their vendor team came together through a mix of serendipity and community: High Desert Florals was discovered at an art walk, a longtime family friend, Dave Clemens, performed as DJ, and photographer Stefanie Rose’s warmth and energy instantly clicked with the couple. Every detail carried a sense of familiarity and trust, infusing the day with professionalism and heart. Special touches included moving the ceremony arch into the reception space to keep its beauty central to the evening, incorporating a customdesigned photo booth backdrop and audio guestbook by Dashoots, and having McKenzie retrieve vow books just in time for the ceremony. Each thoughtful gesture added delightful surprise to the atmosphere.

Highlight Moment

Nature gave its own show-stopping performance. The ceremony unfolded under clear skies, cocktail hour glowed in perfect light, and just as dinner was served a lightning storm rolled through, offering a dramatic backdrop before fading into a luminous sunset. The Guest Experience For many of Zach’s California friends and family, the wedding was their first trip to Central Oregon. Staying onsite allowed guests to enjoy the venue’s amenities while also experiencing the best of the region, such as floating the Deschutes River, attending concerts, and taking in the high desert sunsets. The weekend served as an introduction and celebration of Central Oregon, a place that Kalie and Zach treasure.

Cassidy and Mark met in Wyoming and later built their lives together in Bend. With roots stretching from Tennessee to Maupin, Oregon, Cassidy and Mark wanted their wedding to be a gathering that blended their love of the mountains with the people they love. Choosing a Central Oregon venue allowed them to showcase the landscapes and activities that have defined so many of their shared memories for their friends and family. When a last-minute opportunity to have the reception at The Suttle Lodge & Boathouse arose, matched with an end-of-season ceremony at Hoodoo Ski Area, Cassidy and Mark knew it was the perfect fit. Fueled with spontaneous energy, they pulled together all of the wedding details in just three months, embracing the charm of a midweek, off-season event. Hoodoo offered the playful spirit of a smaller mountain, while The Suttle Lodge gave their guests a comfortable place to gather and stay. Creating the Magic

Planning while balancing schedules meant Cassidy and Mark leaned on their community. Their planner, Kelsey Doyle of The Indigo Bride, helped them stay calm while orchestrating details, and Anne Wilson at The Suttle Lodge brought joy to coordinating onsite activities. Taking on the challenge of shooting the bride and groom on skis, photographer Julia Duke captured breathtaking images. Vendors such as Doug Richie at Hoodoo Ski Area and Andrew George of WillieBurger infused enthusiasm and flavor into the day, while Hair & Makeup by Tanya—run by one of Cassidy’s closest friends—added a personal touch. Each contribution reflected both professionalism and heart, creating an atmosphere of warmth and connection. 18

Highlight Moment

The ski-in ceremony was an unforgettable scene, capturing Cassidy and Mark’s love for winter. From fresh mountain snow and cozy lodge meals to the high-energy dance party led by local band Party in the Back, the day felt alive from start to finish. Celebrating their love in the very place where they had made so many memories added a depth that couldn’t be replicated elsewhere.

The Guest Experience

Guests traveled from Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New York, Wyoming and beyond to celebrate. For many, it was a true mountain adventure, skiing one day and relaxing in sunshine by the lake the next. Many stayed in cabins at The Suttle Lodge, enjoying time by the water or exploring Sisters, Tumalo and Bend while soaking in the novelty of experiencing Central Oregon’s alpine beauty. The setting allowed for shared laughter, outdoor fun and moments of quiet retreat, leaving the newlyweds and their friends and family with memories they’ll carry well beyond the weekend.

Lauren and Cody’s love story began in Mammoth Lakes, California, during the height of the pandemic, a meeting that culminated in a Central Oregon wedding rooted in connection and a whimsical ease. After moving to Bend a few years before their wedding and both working at Mt. Bachelor, the couple chose Pole Creek Ranch as the perfect place to host their family and friends. With mountain views, a forest setting and ponds, the venue offered an intimate yet expansive spot for the celebration they envisioned—something effortless, bold and full of heart. It was important to them that the space felt personal for the weekend, and the ability to fully rent the property and its two homes allowed them to settle in from Thursday through Sunday. The simplicity of the lodge and the beauty of the grounds satisfied their wish for a celebration focused on friends and family.

Creating the Magic

Expecting their first child while planning the wedding and hoping to maintain a calm, stress-free pace, Lauren and Cody turned to Kelsey Doyle of The Indigo Bride to bring their vision to life with her confident guidance. Kelsey had worked with the Pole Creek Ranch team many times before and understood the logistics of transforming the property into an integrated indoor-outdoor experience. Together, they curated a vendor team that invited a natural flow to the weekend. The family-friendly welcome party set the tone with its El Sancho tacos, craft margaritas and custom shot glasses celebrating the couple’s California roots. For the ceremony, low benches and ground-level florals offered a vantage point to view the Cascade Range. Bold yet undone florals from Posie Shoppe added beautiful texture throughout the day, while photographer Alex Elise captured images that felt candid and intimate. Desserts from Nancy P’s Cafe and Bakery, a beloved spot Lauren frequented during pregnancy, provided a culinary highlight of the night with carrot cake, almond croissants and lemon bars offered in lieu of traditional cake. The clear tent with cathedral lighting created a luminous showpiece well into the evening.

Highlight Moment

The celebration was filled with moments that reflected Lauren and Cody’s life, community and joy. Their 7-month-old son, Jones, was part of the ceremony and there was no wedding party, just family surrounding them. One of Lauren’s favorite memories was getting ready with her sister, her closest friends and their babies. The reception included a full 2000s hip hop dance party and fresh pizza from Swig & Stone’s mobile kitchen. With everyone satiated, happy and under the skies of perfect fall weather, the entire weekend felt charmed.

The Guest Experience

For most guests, the wedding was an introduction to Sisters and Central Oregon. Many arrived early, joining the couple at The Barn in Sisters to kick off the weekend before exploring the McKenzie River, waterfalls, local bakeries and nearby golf courses. Some stayed at Juniper Preserve or Brasada Ranch. The weekend also included a Friday morning golf scramble at Black Butte Ranch, where 50 guests competed in a playful tournament. Winners took home Pole Creek Ranch bourbon and branded trucker hats. With more than 35 babies and children attending the welcome party and rehearsal dinner, the weekend became a rare chance for families to gather, play and reconnect. Guests visited the animals at Pole Creek Ranch, wandered the property and fully embraced the relaxed tempo. For the many new parents in attendance, seeing their children together for the first time became a treasured part of the celebration. Throughout the weekend Lauren and Cody’s intention manifested into a weekend without excess, centered on love, community and confirmed the gift of being together.
