In honour of King Charles III’s

Visit the oldest section of the castle, St Margaret’s Chapel, hear the one o’clock gun, which used to be fired for ship’s crews to tell the time, and visit the Honours of Scotland, some of the oldest crown jewels in Britain. You can also take part in the site’s immersive experience Fight for the Castle, an exhibition telling the dramatic story of Edinburgh Castle during the Wars of Independence.
Edinburghcastle.scot functioned as a prison from 1100 until 1952 with historical figures such as Sir Walter Raleigh, Lady Jane Grey, and Elizabeth I held prisoner there. The Tower is also home to historical mysteries such as the unsolved disappearance of the imprisoned Princes in the Tower in the 1480s.
