Being a Norman High Tiger has been a transformative experience in my life. At Norman High, there is a strong sense of community and diversity that allows everyone to feel seen and heard. Because of the school culture, the last 4 years have been ones that I won’t ever forget. My favorite memory from my time at Norman High was winning the High vs. North Football game this year - my Senior year. Looking back into the student section and seeing such a large number of NHS students supporting the Tigers made me feel such a sense of pride for being a Tiger.
It was a big decision to take on the role of Student Body President, but the leaders before me paved the way for me. Their leadership allowed me to feel confident in leading as the next NHS Student Body President. Through being Student Body President, I have learned the importance of community engagement and the impact of positive leadership on a larger scale. The overall experience as Student Body President has been one of growth, both personally and professionally. I’m so grateful for Norman High and the role it has played in paving the way for my future.
FIGHT ON! Mandy Chen
As my time as Student Body President of Norman North comes to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting on the moments that shaped me — not just the speeches or assemblies, but the intentional connections in between it all. Whether it was cheering on classmates in often-overlooked programs or quietly listening when someone needed to be heard, I learned that the most powerful kind of leadership doesn’t solely announce itself—it amplifies others. Norman North DEN gave me more than a platform—it gave me purpose, and a community that believed in the power of
showing up for one another. But ultimately, none of this would have been possible without my support system, “my why”. Norman North Student Council better known as “DEN” (Developing Excellence at North) is home to perhaps 55 of the most miraculous students I’ve ever known — each driven by the sole desire to unite rather than divide (a quality that seemingly grows more scarce by the day, but their existence reaffirms my belief in student-led change) This is also a core value that convinces me each of these students will go on to change the world someday. Two hours a day, five days a week, for almost 200 days—and still, it will never feel like enough time with the people who made it all worth it. There is no me, without them. They are the ones who do the leg work, I am solely the one that gets to be proud to be their
Family helps guide you. They are there with encouragement, wisdom, and a steady hand as you take your next big step. Whether you’re off to college, starting a career, or chasing a new dream, family is the spirit that unites us — and that strength runs in ours.
president.
Now while the end is evident, I could not have been more proud of what we created this year — not just in what we accomplished, but in who we became along the way.
Now while I don’t think my dad fully understood what exactly I did until about three months ago.
Parents, take it from me, student council means something very different here at Norman North, these kids, your kids, are changing their community, the atmosphere around them, and the world for the better.
To my student council, my advisors, my family and friends, and lastly the Student Body of Norman North—thank you for trusting me, challenging me, and giving me a home to lead, learn, and love.
