ADVERSITY Jordan competing in snowcross racing at 16 and 17 years old
I
Adversity: a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune.
am not going to lie: for most of my life, I HATED this word. Just ask my dad. I grew up in Thief River Falls, MN — home of Arctic Cat. My dad was very influential in getting Arctic Cat back on its feet when they went bankrupt in 1981. Arctic Cat was an integral part of his life. In fact, my dad grew up racing snowmobiles on ice oval tracks — like Nascar for snowmobiles! He was pretty dang good, too.
Naturally, my dad bred his three boys to be snowmobile racers as well. I started around age four and retired at age seventeen. I was a semi-pro on the National Snocross Circuit my last year of racing. Snocross is essentially Motocross on snowmobiles. Yes, growing up, I spent most of my time jumping 450-lb. snowmobiles 20ft. high and 100ft. in distance. Standard stuff. By the way, it should be illegal for a 120-lb., 14-year-old kid to be racing a 180-horsepower snowmobile. My dad was my mechanic, boss, and coach. His FAVORITE thing to say to me was: “Jordy...adversity.” After many of my races that didn’t go as planned, I would come back to our race trailer in a not-so-great mood, telling my dad a whole list of excuses as to what went wrong. “I got roosted, and I couldn’t see! My goggles were fogging up! It’s too freaking cold! Make my sled faster!” And every time, my dad would sit down next to me and say, “Jordy...adversity. Everyone is dealing with the same stuff you are. It is up to you to adapt in the face of those
realproducersmag.com
challenges and find a way to make it happen. If not, maybe you should get off the track.” I always had the same response: “Whatever, Dad. You don’t even know what it was like out there.” I used to be a little sassy. But, in hindsight, he was right. Yes, Dad. I am admitting that you were right! I know he has a smirk on his face as he reads this. Real estate is changing rapidly. The things that worked five years ago don’t work as well now, and what we do now won’t work as well in the next few years. It is going to be challenging. It always will be. But just remember the wise words of my father: “Everyone is dealing with the same stuff you are.” So, I ask you—how well do you deal with adversity, and are you willing to adapt to the changes that are coming? I hope so. If not, maybe it’s time to get off the track. See you in the next issue, y’all! Cheers, Jordan Espeseth Owner jordan.epseseth@realproducersmag.com

SEEING THEM THROUGH
REALTOR® on the rise Written by: Dave Danielson Photos by: URSPECIAL
With every step in the real estate transaction, unexpected challenges can arise. But as your clients face those uncertainties, they also take great comfort in knowing you’re there at their side.
That resourceful role is one that Aaron Shockey takes pride in fulfilling, as well. As a REALTOR® and Team Leader with Rogers Healy, Aaron is there to see his clients through — each step of the way. “I will always be there for the people around me who need help, whether it’s in person or over the phone,” he emphasizes.
“As I had looked back on my upbringing, my coaches had a really solid impact on me,” Aaron recalls. “After I got done playing football, I knew that I didn’t want to necessarily be involved with the sport for the rest of my life. I have a very entrepreneurial mindset. So, I earned my real estate license my senior year.”
“No matter how much I have on my plate, I will be there for my friends and those who need me.” Winning Plays
Aaron grew up in Fort Worth. Football was his main game. He played quarterback in high school, as well as at Southern Arkansas. He transferred to a couple of schools — eventually graduating from North Texas University. At first, as Aaron looked to his future, he planned on being a teacher and coach. realproducersmag.com

Gaining Traction
That was 2018. Within his first month-and-a-half in the business, he had two fast closings. “I had clients waiting for me to get my license. After that initial flurry, it kind of stopped. And then I had another person in July and then in August. I had four deals the first year,” Aaron says. “Then I realized this wasn’t as easy as I thought, and I wondered where to get business. I started questioning what to do daily.” Aaron kept moving forward, though, planting seeds with clients, friends, and family. “I’m very consistent. I post on all social media platforms a couple of times each day. I’m very committed and on point about that. I believe that you have to post, post, post … yet what you put out there has to be very informative … for example, developments with interest rates and what can you afford.” Aaron’s efforts were rewarded. He gained traction and has continued to build his business through time. Last year, he completed 50 transactions. Each day, you’ll find Aaron at the office. His competitive experience and leadership have paid dividends through life. “I’ve always enjoyed being in a leadership role … showing up on time and bringing a hard-working mindset to what I do,” he explains. The Power of Teamwork
At the start of 2021, Aaron launched his team — The Aaron Shockey Group. “Starting my team really came out of needing to find someone who could help me with my transactions so that I could cover more ground and generate leads,” he says. “Maddy Davis is my assistant. She keeps the ball rolling. She handles a lot of interactions with 18 • April 2022
clients alongside me. Also, my sister, Brittany Newton, has come on to join my group full-time as a licensed agent. It’s fun watching her succeed.” Today, Aaron has four team members in addition to himself. As he looks to the future, he sees more growth in store. “I’m looking for constant growth. I want people on my team who are hungry and want to be successful,” Aaron says. “My goal is to expand and grow to the point where I have 20-plus people by the end of the year.” Rewarding Life
Family is at the heart of life for Aaron. In addition to Brittany, Aaron enjoys time spent with his twin brother, Josh, who lives in Detroit.
also likes to play golf and explore new restaurants. Faith is also an important part of life for Aaron. He supports his brother’s church in Detroit and is also involved with a local church. Those who know Aaron appreciate his all-in approach, no matter the price point. “I really enjoy working with the full range. I am very broad in my business, including residential and commercial,” he says. “I always strive to provide the very best experience to everyone I work with.” There’s no doubt that his clients feel the same way … as they rely on the way he sees them through to their goals.
Aaron has a passion for concerts and sporting events in his free time. He @realproducers

Handling the items in a home with care is a given. But when you want to know what it looks like to go above and beyond in caring for those items after they leave the property, take a look at what The Junkluggers of Greater Dallas does.
The Junkluggers is a wildly successful national franchise, where Andrew Siegel earned his title Chief Executive Lugger after purchasing the Greater Dallas territory. Andrew’s franchise is one of three local Junkluggers in the DFW area. Together, they form a cooperative force with each other. “When we are asked to remove items from a property, we focus on donating items that people no longer need, want, or use, thus keeping them out of the landfill and allowing them to serve others,” Andrew says. “For example, delivering dishes to a donation point, and knowing that they may go to an immigrant family who will use them for another 20 years.” The Junkluggers of Greater Dallas works with both residential and commercial clients. realproducersmag.com

Creating Satisfaction
One of the most rewarding parts of the work Andrew and his team do is seeing the smile on the faces of their customers. “I really enjoy working with people to remove their headaches,” he says. “As soon as we get these things gone and they know they are going to be donated, you can see the relief on their faces … with them knowing that the items will be going to another family.” As Andrew explains, his work is a lot like an archaeologist sifting through clues and relics from the past. “We find unique items. I have a locket that we found through our work that I refuse to discard. On one side is a handstamped dog tag from World War II, and on the other side is a picture of two women,” Andrew explains. “I want to help find the family of the original owner, but if I can’t, I’m going to bring it to the World War II Museum in New Orleans.” Committed to Making a Difference
Those who know Andrew appreciate how he dives in and commits himself to making a difference.

“I will never ask my team to do a job I wouldn’t do. My lead supervisor, Daryl (Dre), has been with me for almost a year. He is absolutely fantastic. He takes care of operations with a crew of five people and growing. “ The bond that Andrew and his team enjoy with their REALTOR® partners is strong. “It’s rewarding to get a call from our partners. On an average job … we get a call for a client who is moving and has stuff to get rid of – from a single mattress to a whole house (or office) cleanout. For larger jobs, we will often set up an estimate-only appointment – at no charge – with a full walkthrough and photos,” Andrew explains. “We show them things we know we’ll be able to donate along with the final price upfront, so there is no question at the end. If we estimate a full load and we use three-quarters of a truck, we charge for three-quarters of a truck, not a full one. If it’s a small job, we do the work right then and there. If it’s a big job, we do the estimate, and then we book it for a day, week, or month out. Customers can be as hands-on or hands-off as they want. We work with our clients based on what makes them the most comfortable. But we always treat their ‘treasures’ with respect. One thing they will never see is our team throwing their glasses into a dumpster – we take
the time to pack them as we know they are headed to a new family.”
my company to reuse (e.g., donations) and recycle more and more.”
Wonderful Life
The care that the team takes is second to none.
Family is at the heart of life for Andrew. He looks forward to time spent with his wife of 13 years, Jennifer, and their children — a 10-year-old son, Nolan, and an 8-year-old son, Max. When it comes to giving back, Andrew is definitely engaged in his community and focused on improving Dallas as a whole. He has recently been nominated by his local councilman, Adam McGough, to the mayor’s environmental task force … with a goal of making Dallas a greener city and even more attractive to companies and their employees. As he says, “The thing I’m passionate about is zero waste. I want to drive
“During the process when we do the walkthrough and clients identify things to remove, the team knows what donation centers take and don’t,” Andrew says. “We take furniture to one place, books to another, and clothing to a third. If it can’t be donated, we try to find a recycling option. By taking these extra measures, we aim to divert as many items from going to a landfill as possible. Some of our charity partners include the Habitat ReStore, St. Vincent DePaul, Jewish Family Services ReSale Shop, and White Rock Center of Hope.” When you’re looking for a partner who will come alongside you and your clients, lighten the burden, and make it easier for your clients to “let go,” turn to The Junkluggers of Greater Dallas.

@realproducers
any intentions for my siblings and me to stay here, we all did,” Mohammed explains. “Moving here at an early age gave me the ability to thrive and entrench myself in the culture to enjoy the best of both worlds.” GAINING EXPERIENCE
After college, Mohammed got into sales and quickly transitioned into the banking and mortgage world for 14 years, where he served in sales and management. Plus, he also went back and got his MBA while still working full-time. GETTING HIS START IN REAL ESTATE
Eventually, Mohammed decided to take a new path to explore other aspects of the business.
IN THE JOURNEY TO HELP YOUR CLIENTS REACH THE RESULTS THEY DREAM OF, YOU DON’T JUST SETTLE FOR GOOD ENOUGH. YOU GIVE YOUR BEST TO MAKE IT A MEMORABLE AND REWARDING CHAPTER FOR THEM.
That’s an area where Mohammed Nour Jaber excels! As a REALTOR® with The Summit Group at Compass, Mohammed climbs new heights to create a remarkable experience during each transaction. “We structured our team in a way that supports both our personal goals and the goals of the clients we serve. It came from the need to provide a lot of value for our clients while still giving us the life balance necessary to continue to grow and last in this high-demand business,” Mohammed says. realproducersmag.com
“Our tagline is ‘Elevating Your Real Estate Experience.’ We do just that by working together as a team of highly knowledgeable and dedicated partners to deliver superior service to our clients—with a strong emphasis on great communication. With no team lead and all members being principals, each member brings something to the table to improve the collective good for our clients and communities we serve.” THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
As one of four children, Mohammed grew up in Jordan until he was 16. At that point, he moved to the Dallas area, where he finished his last year of high school. After high school, Mohammed graduated from Texas A&M University. “My parents valued a U.S.-based education and, although they didn’t have
“When it became apparent that my dreams and passion were no longer to continue climbing the corporate ladder, I turned to doing something about which I was more passionate. I had bought some houses and had started flipping them, which inspired me to get my real estate license in November 2014. As soon as I got my license, I knew I needed to do it fulltime. I knew I shouldn’t just dabble in real estate. I wanted to learn, grow, and dedicate myself to this profession and career,” Mohammed remembers. “I joined an established team and wanted to learn from people who I respect in this industry. At the same time, I didn’t want to recreate the wheel but rather to improve on it. I was on a team for about a year and a half and then went on my own for a couple of years.” TEAM SPIRIT
Mohammed quickly realized that in order to deliver a superior level of service to his clients yet have the flexibility and work-life balance, he couldn’t do that alone. So out of a desire to enhance the real estate Dallas Real Producers • 31
experience, Michelle Hopson and Paul Sanders formed The Summit Group. “I enjoy that dynamic … being on a team is so rewarding … having the ability to collaborate and yet have all hands on deck at all times to provide our clients the service they deserve and expect is the key to our continuous growth,” he says. “Our business model is based on referrals. It allows us to work with great people who, in turn, are gracious enough to refer us to others. This profession provides me the opportunity to meet great people all the time, and for that, I am very grateful.” SIGNS OF SUCCESS
The Summit Group enjoys rewarding results as a team. In fact, in 2021 – as a team – the group recorded 86 transactions with $43.9 million in sales volume — Mohammed accounting for $15.5 million and 26 transactions himself. GETTING PERSONAL
Mohammed’s life is made richer by his husband, Matthew. Together, they enjoy a wide range of active pursuits, including a deep love for the outdoors and traveling. “On our first hiking trip, we got a passport for all of the national parks. Our goal is to visit all of them eventually,” he says. “So, we try to hit up a couple of them each year.” Those who know Mohammed rely on his kind, open personality, along with his integrity and drive for his work. Congratulations to Mohammed Jaber for climbing new heights by guiding his clients every step of the way toward their dreams.

@realproducers
FAQ ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE Real Producers magazine started in Indianapolis in 2015 and is now in over 100 markets across the nation and continues to spread rapidly. Real Producers first launched in DFW in August of 2018 with North DFW Real Producers (now called “North Dallas”). In May 2019, Dallas Real Producers launched and then Tarrant Real Producers in March of 2021. In 2022 Tarrant Real Producers split into two publications, North Fort Worth and Fort Worth Real Producers. Fort Worth Real Producers will go to print later this year. Q: WHO RECEIVES REAL PRODUCERS MAGAZINES? A: The top 500 real estate agents in each
of the four markets in DFW based on their annual residential MLS sales volume for the previous year. If a deal is not recorded in the MLS, we are unable to pull that data. Most agents produce 10-30% more than what the MLS shows. Refer to the map in this publication for the exact territories. If your broker address is within that given territory and you are in the top 500, then you will receive that publication for the year. There are approximately 60,000 licensed real estate agents in DFW. The list will reset at the end of every year and will continue to update annually. Q: WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THIS MAGAZINE? A: We believe that we are better together.
When we surround ourselves with other successful, like-minded people, we grow to new heights. Real Producers is a platform that brings together the most elite individuals in DFW real estate.
realproducersmag.com
In every market, we take the top 500 real estate agents, and RP Vetted Businesses, and we build an exclusive community around that group. We share their stories, successes, market trends, upcoming events — really, anything that will connect, inform and inspire, we put in our monthly publication.
support Real Producers, and attend our private events.
Q: DOES REAL PRODUCERS HAVE EVENTS? A: Yes! Each community will have two

main events a year and then we do a combined event at the end of the year, which is an awards gala called The ESPEs. For these events, we invite the top 500 real estate agents and our RP Vetted businesses. Top 500 agents are allowed to invite members on their team as well. These events are an incredible opportunity to connect with the best of the best in DFW real estate. It is amazing to see the power in the connections made at these events. Be on the lookout for your exclusive invites! Q: WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR BEING FEATURED IN THIS MAGAZINE? A: It’s really simple. You have to be on
the top 500 list, and we take nominations seriously. You can nominate other real estate agents, businesses, brokers, owners, or even yourself! Office leaders can also nominate real estate agents. We will consider anyone brought to our attention who is in the top 500 because we don’t know everyone’s story, so we need your help to learn about them. We cannot guarantee a feature but to increase your chances we encourage you to meet with one of our team members,
You can email your nominations to jordan.espeseth@realproducersmag.com Q: WHAT DOES IT COST A REAL ESTATE AGENT/TEAM TO BE FEATURED? A: Zero, zilch, zippo, nada, nil. It costs
Q: WHO IS THE RP VETTED BUSINESSES? A: They are one of the best businesses
in DFW in their category and you can find them listed in our index! We don’t just find these businesses off the street, nor do we work with all businesses that approach us. One of many of the top real estate agents has recommended every single business you see in this publication. We won’t even meet with a business that has not been vetted by one of you and “stamped for approval,” in a sense. Our team will further vet every business to make sure they are a good fit and bring value to our community. Our goal is to create a powerhouse network, not only for the best real estate agents in the area but the best businesses, as well, so we can grow stronger together. Q: HOW CAN I RECOMMEND A BUSINESS? A: If you know and want to
recommend a business that works with top real estate agents, please email us to let us know at jordan. espeseth@realproducersmag.com.

G I V I N G H E R A L L E V E R Y DAY
When you have belief and determination to make a difference … results follow closely behind.
Mary Poss is a prime example. As a REALTOR® with Ebby Halliday Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Mary gives her all … and she does it every day. “One thing Ebby used to say is that you should get up, suit up, and show up every day. That’s very true. And I believe you have to work really hard at anything you’re doing and put your best foot forward every single day,” Mary adds. “If you get up and work hard every day, then there are endless doors that are going to open for you, no matter who you are or what your background is. People are drawn to individuals who are caring and work hard.” A Career of Action — and Impact
Mary has a history of giving back and making a difference in the city she loves. Before serving as mayor pro tem and then mayor of Dallas, she worked as vice president of operations for one of the largest banks in the region. Mary recalls how her close bond with Ebby Halliday began years ago. “She was going to be the chair of the Keep Texas Beautiful effort when I met Ebby and her husband, Maurice Acers, in Galveston. I was in banking at 36 • April 2022
POSS the time, and Maurice leaned over at the end of the dinner and said, ‘You have got to go to work for my wife,’” Mary remembers with a smile. “I said I didn’t know anything about the real estate business, and he said it didn’t matter...Ebby could teach me.” Taking a New Path
About 15 years later, at the end of her banking and city hall careers, Mary’s phone rang. It was Ebby. “Ebby said simply, ‘It’s time.’ At first, I thought maybe I had forgotten an appointment, and so I scrambled through my calendar,” Mary says. “Then she said, ‘It’s time for you to learn the real estate business.’ I told her I would like to do that and started soon after.” Mary got off to a fast start in the business. “I was very fortunate. My husband, Mike, and I grew up in Dallas, and I was lucky that I had made lots of friends all over the city and region,” Mary says. “Ebby mailed out cards to announce that I was joining the company, and people started calling. I did have a huge learning curve. Fortunately, I had friends in the business and the company, so I had a lot of people I could call on for advice.” Her first year in the business, Mary earned Rookie of the Year honors … and has kept building as a perennial Top Producer through the past 15 years. During her time in banking and civic endeavors, Mary thrived on solving problems and serving the public. @realproducers

She carries that same strong work ethic in her approach to real estate. “I love the smile on someone’s face when we walk into the right home for them. It means a lot when they invite me over for dinner to show me all the great things they’ve done with their home,” Mary explains. “My job is not just to sell a house but to tell them the good, bad, or ugly. If I see something wrong with a house, or something that’s not what I know they wanted, it’s my job to tell them.”
The Heart of Life
Family is at the heart of Mary’s life. She and Mike enjoy time with family, including her brother and sister, along with eight nieces and nephews. “They are like my kids,” she smiles. Away from work, she and Mike like to travel. She also looks forward to time with a good book, movies, and casual dinners with friends. Mary also has a big heart for helping others. Mary said, “Ebby had a saying that she lived by, ‘Do something for someone every day.’ Any agent or person should find a way to give back and help those who are less fortunate. 38 • April 2022
Regardless of your interests, there’s an organization out there that can use your skills and attributes. I don’t know of any organization that isn’t looking for volunteers.” Mary has definitely walked the walk by serving on a variety of boards and commissions throughout her careers, including Clean Dallas, the YMCA Board, the city’s first crime prevention fairs, Mayors United on Safety Crime and Law Enforcement, the Greater Dallas Crime Commission, as well as lobbying the state legislature for a variety of important needs. She is also involved with supporting groups such as the Phoenix House and Wipe Out Kids Cancer.
Leader for Life
When you talk with Mary, it’s easy to see her warm, caring nature and genuine approach have made her a leader. “It’s important to keep your eyes open and try to understand everyone you encounter. Learn what the person is all about and appreciate where they come from,” Mary says. “Growing up, we learned by observing my parents work hard, be kind to people, do their best every day, and always be honest and treat people with the utmost respect. Hard work, honesty, and a genuine interest in people will lead to opportunities to become successful.” @realproducers

Marti VOORHEIS PURPOSE & PASSION

@realproducers
Communication
is paramount in real estate.
cover story Written by: Dave Danielson Photos by: URSPECIAL
One of the most fulfilling feelings is knowing that you’re doing what you’re good at. It’s made even more wonderful when you have a passion for what you do. That’s the way Marti Voorheis feels about her work. As a REALTOR® with Dave Perry Miller Real Estate, Marti pursues her purpose … and she does it with true passion. “This is my passion, hobbies, and job all rolled up into one,” Marti says with a spark. “People say to me, ‘You work so hard. You’re going to get burned out.’ But I don’t feel that way. I absolutely love what I do. In this market as a client, you need to be both patient and decisive … when you find the property in this market, you better make an offer within an hour.”
realproducersmag.com
Fully Engaged
The challenge of rising to the occasion and continually growing keeps Marti fully engaged in her work. “I love that there are many skills that you have to be really good at in this business. You have to be really good at marketing yourself, understanding a property, and communicating with a variety of people involved in the deal,” Marti points out. “Communication is paramount in real estate. I love the hunt of finding things. I don’t just set up an MLS search and have it go to the client. I search for off-market and try to search in a unique way.” Lifelong Love
Her passion for what she does today can be traced back to her childhood in Norman, OK.
“When I was really little, I loved looking at houses with my parents. We went on drives and would stumble on new developments. It was fun looking at houses at all different stages of construction,” Marti says. “I liked walking in when just the studs were in place and figuring out the floorplan. As I was growing up, I remember drawing floorplans instead of pictures. I still have a little book of floor plans that I tied together with yarn.” As she grew, so did her interest in the industry. “My favorite class in high school was drafting. I graduated when I was 16 and went to Pratt in New York for architecture,” she says. “Then I moved to California. While I was there, I got my real estate license when I was 18 years old.”
Dallas Real Producers • 41
Marti moved to Texas and attended SMU, graduating with a degree in communications and then working in information technology. She also worked in sales. Taking Big Steps Forward
Eventually, Marti got married, started her family, and stayed home with her children. “After about ten years, I came back to the workforce and was certified in web development. The kids were getting older, and I didn’t want to be bored,” Marti says. “So I started working with a network marketing company and honed a lot of skills being in that company.” Marti reached a point where she was ready for a new course. “I did some soul searching to see what I wanted to do. But I had no idea about how to go about it,” she says. “So I called a recruiter at Ebby Halliday. She got me so fired up. In fact, that day that I decided to get my license as fast as I could in November 2017.” Some people seem destined for what they do. That definitely held true for Marti. The results of her work came quickly. In fact, in 2021, she recorded a little over $30 million in sales volume on 21 transactions. Family Foundations
Away from work, Marti treasures time with family, including her husband, Paul, and their three children — 24-year-old PJ; 23-year-old Grace; and 19-year-old Luke.
Marti with her husband, Paul
In her free time, Marti likes to travel with her family. She also has a heart for helping others … supporting Alzheimer’s patients.
“Continuing education to be learning constantly is so important for all agents. There is so much free content to learn from online,” she says. “And there are classes that all REALTORS® have access to that are very valuable.”
“I hope clients feel I make the process fun. Looking for a house ends up being more stressful than what people think. Plus, it can be really confusing to get started. I want to make a difference — and make it easier — for them.”
As she looks to her future, she offers helpful advice for others trying to take their own steps forward in the business.
When you talk with Marti, it’s easy to see that she takes pride in what she does … while also enjoying her work.
Day-by-day, Marti Voorheis makes a huge impact on those around her … with a genuine purpose and passion.
