KERN - Teresa (Terry) 1936-2013

Terry passed away Wednesday evening May 8th at Evergreen L.G.H. with family at her side. Terry was born in Lethbridge Alberta, the youngest of six siblings. She will be greatly missed by her brother Sydney (Olly), her sister Florence (David) and fifteen nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Harvey (1994), her sister Aileen (2002) and eldest brother Gene in (2012). She leaves many loyal friends especially Shirley Hardisty and her husband Don. Terry graduated from West Van High. She was an airline stewardess for Air Canada and then an a s s i s t an t t e a c h er at St . Anthony’s School. Her greatest love was her family, music, children and cats. She was always singing and expressing her love for everyone. But best of all she loved her nieces and nephews and their families. Lynn, Jeffrey, Donna and Steven Kern formerly of North Van, Patty, Cathy, Sam, Kristine and Gordon Kern in Ontario; Laurie, Valerie, Michael and Colleen Kern from Richmond and Andy, Allen and Nancy Davenport from Vancouver. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Mark Seger and the wonderful staff at Evergreen House, L.G.H. There will be a funeral Mass and celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24th at St. Stephen’s Parish, 1360 - 24th St E. North Vancouver, (corner of 24th & Mountain Highway)

Nora died peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital after a short illness. She is survived by loving family members and many close friends. Nora attended John Oliver Secondary School and graduated as top student from UBC, with a B. Ed and B. PE. and began her teaching career at John Oliver. Later, she became the first woman PE department head in Vancouver, at Eric Hamber High School, where she coached sports teams 3 seasons per year for 27 years. Nora was named the most outstanding basketball player in Canada and was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Vancouver Eiler’s basketball team, winning 10 Canadian championships. She starred on Canada’s Pan American basketball team in 1955, 1959, 1963, and managed the 1967 medal winning team. She also played on two Canadian volleyball championship teams. Nora was inducted into the Basketball Canada Hall of Fame as the first woman individual player. She is also a member of the Basketball BC Hall of Fame and the UBC Sports Hall of Fame. She was a devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1150 Mount Seymour Rd, North Vancouver, where a funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or Hospice, or the BC Cancer Society.

NORMAN, Trevor (1963 - 2013) NORMAN MILLER, Zarah (2002 - 2013)

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Trevor Norman (age 49) and daughter Zarah Norman Miller (age 10) as the result of a tragic accident on May 12, 2013. They will be profoundly missed by partner and mother, Jaynie Miller, mother and grandmother, Erika Norman and grandmother, Kaylee Miller. Trevor is also survived by his brothers Mark (Brenda) and Chris (Sandy). As well, Trevor and Zarah are survived by Barbara and Alvin, Carolyn and Stuart, Justin, Colton and Braeden, Max and Sarah, Emma and Sam as well as extended family and many friends. A memorial service was held on Friday, May 17 at the Vancouver Rowing Club. Donations in memory of Trevor and Zarah can be made to Whistler Search and Rescue www.whistlersar.com or Ecole Dorothy Lynas Elementary School www.dorothylynas.com.

REA, Kay (Kathleen Lillian) (Nee: Smart)

It is with great sadness that we announce Kay’s passing after a long fight with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Colin and Kathy Smart, Uncle Ken Phillis and brother-in-law Don Hunter. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband David (42 years), daughter Jessica Richardson (Michael), sisters Barbara Hunter and Lisa Madill (Craig), two lovely granddaughters Emma and Katie, Aunt, Audrey Phillis and nephews Daniel Hunter, Colin and Chris Madill. Kay was known for her insight, quick smile, infectious sense of humour, artistic ability and caring, generous nature. She was a dedicated BC Tel Manager (facilities) for 31 years, a passionate artist, published writer and member of the North Shore Writer’s Association, West Coast Calligraphy Society and a former member of the Silk Purse. A special thanks to Dr. Paul Sugar and Vancouver Coastal Health staff for their sensitive, compassionate support. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Lung Association would be appreciated. Kay’s life will be celebrated May 25 at 2 pm, Highlands United Church, North Vancouver. Reception to follow.

WHITELEY, Winifred Feb 16, 1918 - May 11, 2013 Winifred Mary Whiteley (nee Moston) died peacefully in Victoria on May 11, 2013 in her 95th year. Born in Stoke on Trent England to George and Mary Moston, she met and married Sam Whiteley in 1939, and together they emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1951 with subsequent moves to Boston and back to England. Predeceased by Sam in England in 1984, Win returned to Canada and carved out a new life for herself with an enthusiastic embrace of western line-dancing - ultimately travelling all over the world with her many dancing friends. Win is survived by her daughter Sandra Sauve of Colwood, her son Don Whiteley of North Vancouver; grandchildren Suzanne Hamblin, Charles Sauve, Kenneth Sauve, and Garth Whiteley; and many great and great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday May 24 at the Sands Funeral Home in Colwood, B.C. After the service, Sandra Sauve invites guests to her home for a brief reception.
