Noor Alam is a freelance news and documentary photographer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Born in 1980, Noor completed his graduation program in photojournalism from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in 2008. He is a contributor for the British daily, “The Guardian News”. He has also experience working in development INGOs like UNICEF, WFP, UK AID, ACTION AID, GIZ, FOEA, Oil Change International. Noor is particularly interested in research-based, long-term documentary projects, focusing on neglected issues and topics that require attention. Several of his works have been published national and internationally including Time Asia, The Diplomat, The Guardian News, The Herald Newspaper, TIF Magazine, Himal Southasian. Noor’s first solo exhibition “Ballads of the Agonized Souls” held at Zainul Gallery, Dhaka in 2009, also a book with the same title launched, which depicts struggles of thalassemia patients of Bangladesh. His second solo exhibition on road safety “Tears on Highway” held at open spaces of Chobir Haat, Dhaka in 2011. His other exhibitions include a group photography exhibition, "Our Stories: Middle Class in Bangladesh", was exhibited in Goethe-Institute Dhaka in 2009; the work on fishing community of Bangladesh “Lungo Di Fume Padma” was exhibited in Riva del Garda, Italy in 2013; the work on the Myanmar Rohingya refugees “The Border of Loneliness” was exhibited in Tehran, Iran in 2017; the work on the displaced families of Matarbari Coal Power Project “Stitching” was exhibited in Tokyo, Japan in 2023.
