a new kind of stay

When Sunseeker Resorts opened in late 2023, the entire community could sense a seachange in the making.

“That one property added 30 or 40 percent to the hotel room count for the entire county here, which is a big impact,” said local Captain Ralph Allen, of King Fisher Fleet. “They hired around 1,200 people to work here, so that’s 1,200 jobs that people have that didn’t exist.”

The massive 785-room resort was more than just a new property, it represented a new way of doing things in Port Charlotte. There are views from private floor-to-ceiling windows, rooms with personal device pairing and digital streaming. For those looking for a little more comfort, the signature Sunsuites experience, including an airport pick-up in a private Lincoln Navigator, private check-in and lounge with personalized concierge services.

“We have a full kitchen, washer and dryer.

Sunseeker Resort is Putting Port Charlotte on the Map

We also have Shore Provisions, where guests are able to fill their pantry and kitchen from our resort market,” said Paige-Louise Arias, the Front Office & VIP Services Manager at the resort.

The amenities in the rooms alone were something that the quaint harborside town had never seen, at least at this scale.

“We knew that if

“We knew that if we were going to put Port Charlotte and Charlotte Harbor on the map, we needed to make sure we could execute.” said President of Sunseeker Resort, Micah Richins. “There is a lot of work that’s done, actually, before you even arrive to understand who you are, what you’re interested in, what your objectives are… how to make your stay more meaningful.”

And it all starts with the staff.

“The process of hiring the team here was one that we took to heart at the onset,” said Executive Director of Food and Beverage, Carlos Cepero. “Look at Jose Cuarta at Maury’s, who truly understands what it is to find the proper ranch, with the proper breeding style of the cattle, and bring that local meat here.”

If Cepero and Sunseeker feel lucky to have Cuarta, they can rest assured that the feeling is mutual.

“I get some of the best products here. I’m very lucky,” said Jose Cuarta. “Rib-eye steaks, filets, tomahawks, it’s the best. I get to order great meat and use great products, and make people happy!”

we were going to put Port Charlotte and Charlotte Harbor on the map we needed to make sure we could execute.”
Micah Richins, President Sunseeker Resort

Indeed, the menu at Maury’s Steak, Seafood and Spirits is full of delicious cuts, delectable creations and plenty of potent potables sure to please both patron and chef alike.

The team at Sunseeker understand that the fastest way to someone’s heart is through their stomach, a strategy Jason Shkorupa, Senior Vice President of Sunseeker Resort, had from the get go.

“You put best-in-class cuisine within a central space of 25,000 square feet and allow your guests to visit and dine in a casual atmosphere. It’s very visual, you see that it’s fresh to order.”

Nowhere else is that more on display than in the resort’s crown jewel.

“The food hall is kind of our showpiece for the hotel. It’s a little bit of everything. Eleven different options. Pretty much anything you can think of you can have while you’re staying here.” said Kory Foltz, Executive Chef for the resort.

And at the heart of the hall is award winning pastry chef, Patricia Nash’s newest creative outlet, Sweet Shine Patisserie & Dessert Bar.

“I’ve never been in a property that housed a pastry shop, dead center at the spine of the property.” said Cepero.

Chef Nash was equally stunned. “Most of the time, pastry is in the basement, and you’re not really the priority. Well here, we’re right in the middle! So it’s beautiful for the restaurants! When they need stuff they come to us, they pick up their product. Centrally located… it’s refreshing!”

The move to center the patisserie showcases the made-in-house freshness that Shkorupa and Cepero sought.

“We put it at the forefront from a culinary experience to really tell the guests we bake everything in-house,” said Cepero, “and you’re watching it in real time.”

This celebration of the craft means chefs can follow their inspiration, giving guests delicious dishes that might only be available for their stay. It creates the sort of memorable experience the resort hopes to be known for.

“We can come in here and be creative and change it up the next day.” said Nash. “It’s not the same-old, same-old.”

“The food hall is kind of showpiece for the hotel. It’s a little bit of everything. Eleven different options. Pretty much anything you can think of you can have while you are staying here.”

“Our mission for the golf experience was to really develop a one of a kind experience unlike any other.”

Aaron Merrit, GM Aileron Golf Club

“You can stay here at Sunseeker and eat at the food hall for seven days, and you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner there, and you wouldn’t even get through a third of the menu in your seven day stay.” said Shkorupa.

With every cuisine under the sun, from Italian and Asian inspired cuisine to Baja-Mexican favorites, guests will have no trouble filling up for an exciting stay

in Charlotte Harbor, where even more activities await.

From the private golf course to the fitness center and pools, “the amount of things that you can do really are endless, and they are all right within your reach,” said Micah Richins.

“Our mission for the golf experience was to really develop a one of a kind experience unlike any other.” said Aaron Merrit, the general manager at Aileron Golf Club. “What could we do that was a little different?”

What they devised was a way to enjoy the 155-acre, 18-hole championship-level golf course, designed by renowned architect Kipp Schulties, at a pace not available at many top of the line courses.

“One of those things was expanded tee times, where everyone can have a relaxing opportunity, take their time.”

“It’s really just a feather in our cap, for Southwest Florida to have a renowned exclusive golf course experience,” said Annette Bales, Executive Director of Sales,

Services and Experience. “It’s something that doesn’t really exist in this area.”

And for those who want to stay active without lugging around any clubs?

“Our fitness center is amazing,” said Jack Crumley, Director of Spa, Pool & Fitness.

“It’s 7,100 feet, it’s got over 90 pieces of Technogym equipment. The view is amazing, every piece of cardio faces the harbor, and you’ll also catch the sunset from the fitness center.”

Private classes are offered to resort guests every day. “We have group fitness classes from pilates to yoga; we have spin classes; we have HIIT classes, so hotel guests are able to join these classes at no cost,” said Crumley.

The resort is also home to the largest rooftop pool in Florida, Level Blue. The exclusive, 18+ adults-only rooftop bar serves exciting signature cocktails and lighter fare poolside, from a perch that presents breathtaking birds-eye harbor views.

The family friendly option, Reflections Pool & Bar, also offers comfortable seating and private cabanas, where guests can relax, unwind and escape into luxury.

Of course, the resort is also close to many adventures and excursions, some even the employees can’t help but celebrate.

For Annette Bales, King Fisher Fleet might be an easy pick for a favorite pastime.

“The sunsets here in Southwest Florida are truly the best in the state,” said Bales. “We were taking clients on sunset cruises while we were still in hard-hat tours.”

Captain Ralph Allen, the man behind those cruises, takes his reviews to heart.

“We would love for people to come off our boats and say to us, ‘That was so cool,

Charlotte Harbor was such a beautiful thing to see! The dolphins jumped, the sun shone, the boat was immaculate, the crew of the boat was so friendly, and we want to come visit you again,’” said Allen. “That’s what we want to hear because that’s our vote of confidence from our guests.”

It’s a sentiment shared by Jason Shkorupa at Sunseeker Resort.

“I think the biggest thing that’s important to us is that people leave and say ‘It’s different here.’” said Shkorupa. “‘There is a sense of hospitality.’ So that, to us, is important.” sunseekerresorts.com

A SERENE ESCAPE

Stroll through natural and man-made beauty at Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens

Nature and creativity are always in bloom at one of Southwest Florida’s most breathtaking attractions: Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens.

Celebrating its seventh anniversary on Oct. 20, the 27-acre sanctuary alongside Peace River blends Florida’s natural landscape with more than 4,500 botanicals — including cacti and hibiscuses — and 21 sculptures from artists across the globe. The only botanical garden within a 50-mile radius of Punta Gorda, the attraction boasts 2 miles of walking trails that provide guests with a glimpse into such unique ecosystems such as marshlands, wetlands, mangroves, uplands and tidal basins.

Traveling art exhibitions delight visitors throughout the year as well, with the works of world-renowned artist and prolific environmentalist Charley Harper on display from Oct. 11, 2024, through Jan. 19, 2025. The exhibition, “Beguiled by the Wild,” will feature never-beforepublished private collections, monumental outdoor reproductions and whimsical living sculptures, and be showcased alongside such pieces permanently on exhibit as Zimbabwean sculptor Dominic Benhura’s “Leap Frog.”

“Fall is a great time to visit because the weather starts to cool down, making a stroll through the sanctuary an enjoyable, sensory experience,” said Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens’ executive director, Tanna Horner. “The water lilies are just one of the many tropical plants in full bloom at this time, and the garden installs thousands of vibrant

annuals to accentuate the art exhibition, creating a dazzling display of color and texture and bringing a burst of energy and life to the garden.”

While visiting Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens, guests can also feed koi in a lily-filled pond, stop by the Butterfly House and view wildlife from the expansive boardwalks, making the attraction a favorite with guests of all ages. Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens is open Tuesday through Sunday; children ages 5 and younger receive free admission. peacerivergardens.org

FALL FUN ON THE WATERFRONT

Fishermen’s Village is not your typical retail center

Whether you’re in the mood to do a little shopping, savor some delicious fare or have some fun without breaking the bank, Fishermen’s Village has something for everyone to enjoy.

Located on the site of the former Maud Street City Dock, which once housed seven fish packing houses that were integral to the area’s fishing industry, Fishermen’s Village has been a Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach favorite since 1980. Best known for its specialty boutiques, waterfront restaurants and marina, the bustling Charlotte Harbor attraction regularly hosts free events that guests can attend throughout the year — like its annual Key Lime & Tropical Fest. Celebrating its 10th year on Sept. 21, from noon to 9 p.m., the popular event kicks off National Key Lime Pie Day a few days early with live bands, food and plenty of vendors celebrating Key lime and tropical specialties. Then, Oct. 12, from noon to

6 p.m., Fishermen’s Village welcomes back its annual International Culture Fest. Hosted in partnership with the Cultural Heritage Center of Southwest Florida, the event features international food, live performances, culturally oriented vendors and educational activities.

Probably the most beloved event in Fishermen’s Village, though, is the annual Lighting of the Village, taking place on Nov. 16, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m., Fishermen’s Village’s team of dedicated “elves” (aka employees) prepare months in

advance for the grand illumination, which has been a local holiday tradition for more than two decades. In addition to taking in more than 1 million lights and themed decorations throughout Fishermen’s Village during the event, revelers can enjoy live music, dancing and appearances by Santa and the Grinch. The festive décor will then remain on display for visitors to enjoy through Dec. 31, as part of Fishermen’s Village’s Festival of Lights.

While guests are attending special events in Fishermen’s Village’s, which also include free live concerts on most days at various venues, they can check out a couple of recent additions to its retail and restaurant offerings. Ladies looking to spruce up their fall wardrobe will definitely want to check out the new DanaTyler Boutique, which features a selection of stylish women’s clothing, costume jewelry and home accessories. Seafood fans, meanwhile, will want to head on over to Leroy’s Fish Shack when it opens in September. Showcasing a menu of primarily locally sourced seafood like grouper, crab, hogfish and flounder, the restaurant will have commercial fishermen pulling up to its dock three to four times a week with fresh catches for diners to relish. Located in the space formerly occupied by Village Fish Market, Leroy’s Fish Shack is the sister restaurant to downtown Punta Gorda favorite Leroy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar, making it one of the area’s most eagerly anticipated restaurant openings. fishermensvillage.com

A HISTORIC ROADSIDE TREASURE

Wonder Gardens remains one of Lee County’s most wondrous attractions

Situated on 3.5 acres in downtown Bonita Springs, Wonder Gardens has come a long way since it was first established as The Reptile Gardens in 1936 — and there’s still plenty of change for the classic roadside attraction on the horizon.

Nestled among sprawling banyan trees and plants, the zoological park and botanical garden is home to more than 300 rescued, rehabilitated and nonreleasable birds and reptiles, such as American flamingos and alligators. Guests can walk the lush grounds to see the animals as well as an array of flora, or book an Animal Encounter to get closer to some of the inhabitants. Taking place select mornings, each 30-minute Animal Encounter lets guests feed some of the park’s sulcata tortoises and rainbow lorikeets for a nominal fee. Additionally, guests can learn more about Wonder Gardens’ animals during a Habitat Chat. Led by the park’s Animal Care & Education Team, the free event is held every Thursday afternoon at a prechosen exhibit.

Guided tours of the park are also available select mornings for an additional fee, including a 45-minute Wonder Walk that introduces guests to Wonder Gardens’ long and fascinating history while teaching them about the park’s animals and plant collection. A Mindfulness Walk can be booked in advance that invites guests to go on a 45-minute walking meditation, observing a curated selection of plants and animals during their stroll.

As Wonder Gardens gets closer to its 100th anniversary in 2036, the future of the historic attraction looks bright thanks to a new 10-year partnership agreement with the City of Bonita Springs, which purchased the property in 2018.

“Wonder Gardens is the cornerstone of Old Florida charm and character, but we’re also right on the edge of exciting changes and times that will make it even more of a treasure for the community,” said Dr. Wendy Arsenault, chairperson of Wonder Gardens’ board of directors.

As part of the agreement, Wonder Gardens can move forward with several new and improved exhibits and enhanced visitor experiences, including a long-planned river otter exhibit that will hopefully be completed by the end of the year. Wonder Gardens can also finally begin construction on its much-needed Animal Care Center, which is currently housed in temporary facilities following the devastation of Hurricane Ian.

Until then, guests can still attend several special events held at Wonder Gardens throughout the year, like its Brews for the Birds fundraiser on Oct. 5, featuring brews from local and national breweries. Halloween Nights in the Gardens also returns Oct. 10 through 12, with spooky decorations, games, face painting, photo ops and other fun activities for families to enjoy.

Punta Gorda is one of Florida’s most relaxed, peaceful communities. With a historic ambience and intimate feeling, it’s a small town that seems more like a neighborhood. And with a citizenry that is connected, involved and concerned for their town and each other, it’s more than a town, it’s a true “community.” It’s what so many of its residents have spent a lifetime seeking, and now have found in a place that truly is a “harbor,” offering safety, comfort, and a place to set forth on more of life’s great adventures.

ONE WILD ADVENTURE

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens has come a long way since it was first established as the Sanford Zoo in 1923, when a rhesus monkey was given to the Sanford Elks club by a traveling circus. Today, the 116-acre attraction along Lake Monroe is home to more than 350 animals representing more than 100 species.

“Amid the thrills of Orlando’s theme parks, the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford is a mustvisit for all ages for an unforgettable, wild adventure,” said the zoo’s CEO, Richard E. Glover, Jr. “As a not-for-profit organization, the zoo is a leader in conservation, providing experiences that inspire actions on behalf of wildlife.”

Guests can get up close to a wide variety of animals during their visit, from giraffes and Florida black bears to three new squirrel monkeys that were introduced to the zoo’s shared primate habitat earlier this year. For an additional fee, visitors can also go ziplining over the grounds, take a miniature train ride around the property or book one of several animal encounters, like the zoo’s popular

Rhinoceros Encounter, where guests can learn more about its greater one-horned rhinoceros, PJ.

Two of the zoo’s most beloved events return in the fall as well. The Halloween-themed Zoo Boo Bash takes place select weekends in October, featuring treat stations and other fun activities for guests to enjoy. Then, Asian Lantern Festival: Into the Wild returns select dates from November 2024 through January 2025. Offering a unique take on holiday-themed light shows, the separately ticketed after-hours event features dozens of illuminated, handcrafted lanterns situated on a ¾-mile loop around the zoo.

a mecca for halloween fans

It’s hard to find a place that gets more into the Halloween spirit every year than Central Florida. Whether you are looking for heart-racing scares or family-friendly frights, the Greater Orlando area has several recurring events for Halloween fans of all ages to enjoy.

For those who associate the popular fall holiday more with gore than candy, one of Orlando’s scariest Halloween events is already in full scream. Celebrating its 33rd year, Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights takes place select nights through Nov. 3. Guests can experience nightmare-inducing terror around every corner of Universal Studios Florida during the separately ticketed event, with five scare zones filled with hundreds of menacing creatures, 10 all-new haunted houses and a live show. While it will be hard for even the bravest of souls not to scream during the horrifying event, visitors who make a sound won’t last very long in the “A Quiet Place” haunted house. The eerie attraction not only brings to life scenes from the postapocalyptic movies “A Quiet Place” and “A Quiet Place Part II,” but also incorporates American Sign Language to capture the authenticity of the mostly silent films. universalorlando.com/hhn

More sinister scares can be found at SeaWorld Orlando’s Howl-O-Scream. Returning for its fourth year select nights

Sept. 6 through Nov. 2, the separately ticketed event promises to be bigger and better than ever with five haunted houses, seven scare zones, three roaming haunts on the street, five interactive bars and two spooktacular shows. Many of the frightening attractions will be all new, including four of the haunted houses (Ultimate Gamble, Waters Edge Wellness Center, Farm 51 and Atlantis — Journey Below) and three of the scare zones (Seeds of the Coven, Cannibal Harbor and Paradise Palms). Four of the park’s thrilling coasters will also remain open for those who haven’t already lost their voice screaming out in fear: Mako, Manta, Ice Breaker and Pipeline. seaworld.com/orlando/events/howl-o-scream

A TRUE WORK OF ART

The SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival continues to leave its mark on the city

St. Pete has become much more vibrant over the past decade thanks to the annual SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival.

Celebrating its 10th year Oct. 11 through 20, SHINE transforms St. Pete’s shared outdoor spaces into a stunning gallery by having local, national and international artists create large-scale murals on the city’s walls and streets. Produced by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, the event has created nearly 170 murals throughout downtown St. Pete and its surrounding arts districts since 2015.

“The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance is delighted to support the SHINE Mural Festival,” said Terry Marks, CEO of the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance. “Residents and visitors alike marvel at the innovation, inspiration and artistry that this outdoor gallery brings to St. Petersburg. SHINE has also strengthened and promoted artists across the globe, giving this art form well-deserved prominence within the domain of public art.”

Approximately 15,000 to 20,000 people are expected throughout the 10-day event to watch as professional artists add 15 murals to the city’s world-class gallery. Trolley tours can also be booked online through Star Trolley from Oct. 12 through 20, to see all of the pieces. Various special events will take place during this year’s festival as well, including a SHINE 10 Year Group Exhibition at the Morean Arts Center

For those who won’t be in town during SHINE 10, art aficionados can go on selfguided walking tours to view this year’s murals as well as past pieces by accessing a map online. Spectators can even listen to a corresponding audio tour on PixelStix to hear more about the creations. Year-round walking and bike tours are also available through Florida CraftArt. stpeteartsalliance.org/shinemural-festival

AMPLIFYING CLEARWATER

Clearwater’s world-class beach is a premier tourism destination, but the city is also a hot spot for entrepreneurs.

The founders of ClearWake Watersports fell in love with Clearwater Beach on family vacations to Florida. In 2020, they moved to Clearwater to launch a business offering tubing, wakesurfing, and wakeboarding as well as pontoon boat tours to small island beaches and stops along the Intracoastal Waterway.

“It’s an ideal place to live by the beach, work on the water, and bring a lot of joy to our visitors,” said managing partner Jessica Huffman.

ClearWake and other small businesses tied to the booming local tourism industry have a valuable resource in AMPLIFY Clearwater’s tourism innovation business incubator. AMPLIFY, the Clearwater area’s chamber of commerce, launched the program in late 2023 to provide entrepreneurs mentorship, guidance with marketing and business plans, and networking opportunities. It’s the Sunshine State’s first business incubator focused on tourism.

Innovative incubator breathes new life into Florida businesses

“Clearwater is truly focused on the small business ecosystem, and entrepreneurs flourish as a result,” said AMPLIFY President and CEO Amanda Payne. “It’s an entrepreneurship hotspot. AMPLIFY Clearwater is dedicated to being that onestop-shop resource for all entrepreneurs who want to bring, start or grow a business in the area.”

“They seek Florida to escape the gray skies, the cold,” Trick said. “They come for sunshine, blue skies, water and fun activities with friends and family. We provide exactly that. We give them an experience that lasts a lifetime. They have a fun day out on the water and make memories they’ll never forget. We see a lot of our customers over and over again. They have such a great time, they will book a trip to Clearwater and come down just to surf with us. We offer quality, professionallevel coaching. We meet them exactly where they’re at with their skills and help them improve. We start with the basics and go up to professional tricks. They learn a lot and

Clearwater Chief of Staff Joe Lugo, who works with the incubator companies, says the broad range of small businesses shows the tourism industry’s wide impact on the local economy. So far, the incubator has worked with a blow dry bar, fishing charter, launderette, wine bar, winery, health and wellness spa, CBD retailer, health care clinic, events business, multiple innovative marketing and advertising firms, and more. AMPLIFY recently launched IGNITE Entrepreneurship Center to expand the resources available for entrepreneurs who want to grow a business in Clearwater.

Autumnal Asheville

There’s

something brewing

in the Blue Ridge Mountains

When fall hits Asheville, NC, a kind of magic takes over the beautiful city. The leaves burst with autumnal charm, the apples are ready to harvest and the ghosts and spirits of the dearly departed and dubiously demised return to the streets of the charming Appalachian town. For fall festivities, haunted historic tours and beautiful views, there is nowhere better to be.

GHOST TOURS

Asheville has its fair share of sordid stories and historic horrors, and knowledgeable tour guides are happy to host a foray into the forgotten frights of yore.

Known for its architectural adventures, Gray Line Trolley hosts a Ghost & History Tour that illuminates Asheville’s darkest history, all from the comfort of a motorized trolley. Riders will hear all about the unsolved murder that startled the citizens of Asheville in 1936, the spirits that stalk the children’s hospital and more terrifying tales on the 75-minute tour. graylineasheville.com

classic eats in austin

Mouthwatering mainstays in Texas capital

For every shiny new restaurant in Austin offering the trendiest cuisine, there are many tried-and-true restaurants and clubs with well-worn booths and lovingly creased menus that still encapsulate the true spirit of this “weird” city.

TOP NOTCH

Featured in the films “Dazed and Confused” and “Varsity Blues,” this drive-in restaurant is a place that time forgot — just the way Austin likes it. You can drive in and order carside, or dine inside the original 1971 lobby and choose from a menu of 100 percent beef charcoal-grilled burgers, fried chicken or fish. It’s… dare we say it? “Alright, alright, alright.” topnotchaustin.com

KERBEY LANE CAFE

For unfussy breakfast and brunch all day, head to Kerbey Lane Cafe, which has expanded to nine locations throughout Austin since it opened in 1980. Austinites love to compare queso — somehow considered a condiment and a spiritual experience at the same time — and this restaurant serves one that often gets a solemn nod from knowing locals. The pancakes are also delish at any hour. kerbeylanecafe.com

FONDA SAN MIGUEL

Tucked in a quiet neighborhood in north Austin is one of the city’s most loved restaurants for authentic interior Mexican cuisine. When you walk in, you’ll immediately notice the sun-drenched atrium, usually filled with patrons angling for a seat at the bar (reservations are recommended). To

start, try Ceviches las Brisas accompanied with tostada chips and a fresh margarita. For a main course, you can’t go wrong with the tacos al carbon or enchiladas de mole. fondasanmiguel.com

BROKEN SPOKE

This dance hall, which has seen more than its share of cowboy boots since 1964, is one of Austin’s true classics. Don’t worry if your twostep is shabby — just show up a little early and get a free lesson. Then, order a Lone Star and rustle up more fun than you can shake a stick at. brokenspokeaustintx.net

Food from Nothing new orleans,

A one-of-a-kind experience in New Orleans

As the world of haute cuisine continues to pull new and ambitious eaters into its swirling vortex, wallets may begin to feel the pinch of dining at the edge of innovation. Yet, there is one spot in New Orleans that has broken the barrier between inexpensive and explorative to welcome foodies new and old into the fold of ambitious gastronomy.

Unaware diners might mistake the unassuming spot for a mom-and-pop burger stop. Suis Generis is just that approachable, even styling its name on the sign in all lower case, as if to emphasize that while the title is fancy Latin, the atmosphere is casual. The name means “from nothing” or “one of a kind,” both interpretations serving as an adequate summary of the menu available. Every week, the restaurant creates a new and unique selection of dishes based on what is fresh and available. It’s a strategy the restaurant refers to as Food Evolution.

Suis Generis will buy food in small increments and use the produce to create unusual menus that often utilize seasonal items from their nearby farm to create their delectable dishes. Nothing is wasted either. Because of the smaller orders, the restaurant keeps spoilage low, and the food that isn’t eaten is used as farm compost at their farm, Tiki Farm.

The farm also serves as a host for the Tiki Food Lab & Fermentation Learning Center. Professional chefs and food experts take guests through classes teaching useful skills like how to make their own tempeh or fish sauce, while other events like parties,

concerts and experiences run year-round on the property.

Through the farm’s composting efforts, Suis Generis hopes to be the first restaurant in New Orleans to be completely zero-waste. With the farm’s access to fresh produce, the smaller food purchases and the reuse of food waste, the restaurant offsets the cost of purchasing more expensive ingredients, meaning the quality of food stays high while the prices stay low. It’s all to create a special and lasting experience for their patrons. suisgeneris.com

Recognizing Excellence

At Allegiant, we love to unite our Team Members through unique experiences while strengthening relationships across locations, departments, and amongst each other. Through our internal Sport Team Program, Team Members are empowered to organize teams of coworkers to represent our company in local sporting events and leagues.

Each year, our program supports dozens of Allegiant teams and hundreds of Team Members across the country to partake in some friendly competition. For the past few years, our Team Members also look forward to our annual tradition of representing Allegiant in our two biggest competitions, Corporate Challenge in Las Vegas, and Corporate SportsFest in Clearwater, Florida.

Tug-of-War Corporate SportsFest

CORPORATE CHALLENGE

In Las Vegas’ very own City-wide Olympics spanning nearly 3 months, over 200 Team Members represented Team Allegiant, competing in 35 events alongside 52 companies across the Las Vegas and surrounding areas. With events ranging from Flag Football and Track and Field to Chess and E-Sports, our Team Members displayed their teamwork and flexibility, leading our team to a third-place victory overall in our division. The team earned a special trophy

awarded and received second place in the competitions Sportsmanship Award. Not only did placing in the events feel like an accomplishment, but this honor highlighted Team Allegiant’s positive attitude and support of other teams throughout the competition.

CORPORATE SPORTSFEST

On Saturday, April 20, Team Members from our South Florida locations showed up to represent Team Allegiant at St. Pete Clearwater Beach to compete against over 100 other local and national companies in the annual Corporate SportsFest competition. This multi-activity event includes Tug-of-War, Cornhole, Volleyball, Dodgeball and more. The team had a great day cheering each other on, enjoying some fun in the sun, and celebrating multiple victories throughout the day.

While the trophies and celebrations are exciting to across our Allegiant Network, the most rewarding part of this program are inarguable the memories built, and connections made amongst our Team Members. We look forward to continuing these annual traditions for years to come!

$34,000

to aspiring pilot

At Allegiant, we believe the future of aviation lies in the hands of young aviators, and we are committed to turning their dreams into reality. One of the core pillars of our corporate giving program is to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals by promoting STEM education and opening doors to careers in the aeronautical sciences. This vision came to life in a spectacular way through our partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of America, where we had the privilege of supporting a young, aspiring pilot, Jill Prime.

At just 17 years old, Jill has already reached impressive heights in her journey to become a pilot. It all began with a spark of inspiration when, at 8 years old, Jill participated in an aviation field trip organized by her local Boys & Girls Club in Florida. From that moment, she was captivated by the idea of soaring through the sky.

Fast forward to today, Jill has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning her student pilot license even before obtaining her driver’s license. But her journey is far from over. This year, Jill is set to continue her education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of America, we proudly awarded Jill a $34,000 scholarship to help pay for tuition and expenses as she pursues her bachelor’s degree.

This scholarship is a testament to our commitment aviation industry and supporting the

“We are so proud to inspire the next generation of aviators, exposing them to the rewarding career opportunities available in aviation,” said Allegiant’s President and incoming CEO, Gregory C. Anderson. “Jill’s journey exemplifies resilience and perseverance, qualities that are integral to the success of a pilot. We want the best to join our industry, and Jill embodies that.”

The scholarship was a delightful surprise to Jill. To unveil the big news, the Boys & Girls Club of America flew her out to Las Vegas where she was invited to speak to kids from various Southern Nevada Boys & Girls Clubs at Paper Plane Palooza, an annual event hosted by Harry Reid International Airport. The event welcomes more than 70 children from local Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada to participate in a paper airplane folding and flying competition. Jill captivated the crowd with her passion for aviation before introducing Allegiant president and incoming CEO, Gregory C. Anderson, to speak.

Little did she know, Anderson was about to make an announcement that would change her life forever. He surprised the crowd and announced Allegiant was going to help make Jill’s dream come true by funding half of her first year of tuition at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He also shared she would be matched with a current Allegiant captain, Captain Kati Whatley, as a mentor who will encourage Jill as she continues to pursue her dreams.

The surprise was met with cheers and applause from the crowd and Jill’s gratitude was evident as she shared her excitement and dreams with everyone in attendance.

Jill’s journey is a powerful reminder of the impact that dreams, dedication and a little help from friends can have on shaping the future of aviation. Through our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Allegiant aims to engage children of all ages to empower and inspire them to pursue careers in aviation.
