St. Tropez is truly the exemplification of Euro-summer splendor, and the famous La Réserve à la Plage is the crème de la crème of the French Riviera. La Réserve à la Plage is the beautiful brainchild of Michel Reybier, the founder of this idyllic slice of heaven, and Philippe Starck, famed French architect and designer. The natural beauty of the environment speaks for itself, but the life that these two have brought to the area is something supernatural and grandiose. To elevate the experience even further, La Réserve à la Plage is partnering with Loro Piana for this upcoming summer season. SKY HIGH STAY
BOEING 737 TRANSFORMED INTO LUXURY PRIVATE VILLA
Luxury hospitality stays have officially been taken to new heights, literally. A Boeing 737 that used to make its journeys across Indonesia has been completely transformed and repurposed into an incredible villa that sits atop Nyang Nyang Beach Cliff in Bali. The Geometrium Studio Team has effectively created the world's first Private Jet Villa, which is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The exterior of the plane appears like any normal plane you’d travel on, but the interior is something magical. Bright and airy, the plane has been entirely gutted and redone to rival some of the highest luxury hotels in the world. Due to the natural shape and curvature of the plane, all the furniture had to be custom-designed, which fits the aesthetic as this is a custom accommodation. The plane now has an amazing infinity-edge pool, and even a jacuzzi in the cockpit. The Villa is available to rent on Airbnb and is a definite bucket-list stay.

We never would have thought that a cause for environmental concern could be in the gym clothes we wear. We’ve recently discovered that some athleisure-wear is riddled with microplastics yielding irrevocably harmful effects on our bodies. Fortunately, we have found one of the only activewear companies to focus on wholly eliminating these harmful microplastics. Ryker Clothing has made it its mission to create comfortable, innovative, and simultaneously stylish activewear that isn’t jeopardizing your body while you’re trying to improve your health. Instead of utilizing harmful materials, Ryker uses merino wool, bamboo, and cotton to create their clothing line. Now you can work out with peace of mind that the hard work you’re putting in isn’t being subconsciously tainted by the clothing you wear.

A M OLO - MENTOUS O CCASION
OPENING OF MOLO IN NEWPORT BEACH
One of the hottest new local restaurant openings this season in Newport Beach is Molo Osteria on Lido Island. Molo took over the old Sabatino’s location and has already become a local favorite as it’s packed to the brim every night. Two of the new owners created L.A. hotspot, Forma in Venice, and have brought with them the incredible cuisine, design, and aura the Los Angeles location famously emits. The space is bustling and lively regardless of whether it's a weekday or weekend, with beyond incredible service. The food truly speaks for itself, and one of our favorite aspects of a night dining at Molo was the Cacio e Pepe in the gigantic Parmigiano Reggiano wheel imported directly from Italy. A definite must-try for an incredible night out this summer.

ROCK SOLID
LITHOLOGY
Every great glass of wine gets its success from the quality of the land where its vines grow, and Lithology perfectly exemplifies this ideal. Lithology itself is the study of the formation, composition, and classification of rocks. Lithology wines embrace this study and put all the focus into the nutrient-rich minerals that encompass the soil of the Napa Valley, to create a wine that is rich in flavor, body, and composition. You can visit the winery in person to see where the magic happens at The Estate, and even taste some of the most exclusive wines at The Lounge in downtown Napa. Lithology truly embodies innovation and tradition and has perfected the synonymous harmony of the two. A bottle that we love is the 2021 Lithology Alejandro Bulgheroni Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is utterly unique in the depth and blend of its anatomy. It highlights rich aromatics of blueberry, dark cherry, violets, and spring flowers, contrasted with notes of tobacco, toasted bread, and graphite. The bottle itself is stunning, as are the rich and complex flavors in each sip.

FOUNDATIONS OF FLAVOR
PLINTH WINE
Plinth Wine focuses its success on the beginning. A plinth is a heavy, supportive base with innate structural integrity to support the weight and power of whatever statue, vase, or artifact it is upholding. This is the pristine mantra with which Plinth Wine is founded: start by protecting and nurturing the foundation, the roots, and the luxurious and consistent quality that will follow. The wine is noted as being for the adventurer, for the individual who enjoys the story and the journey behind each bottle.
UNCORK THE ROAR
The infamous viniculture connoisseurs, brothers Georges and Daniel Daou, irrefutably encompass hard work, courage, and dedication to their craft. The assiduous entrepreneurs have lived and traveled throughout the world, pursuing their passions, enriching their education, and succeeding in all that they do. Their first entrepreneurial venture took place in the technology and engineering sector, with their company DAOU Systems, which further showcases the brothers’ vast professional repertoire. Once they sold the company, they focused on their mutual love and passion for viniculture, and that’s when the renowned DAOU that we all sip and toast to today came to fruition.
The Soul of a Lion blend exemplifies this ideal that their family and company were built upon. With an array of various wines in the Soul of a Lion line, each bottle represents the grit, courage, and power that “represents a man who is nothing short of a leader.” The line is not only rich in quality and flavor but also rich with a deep familial history and love. The unique and ever-impressive DAOU Mountain is a symbol of power, purity, and symmetry that shines through in each note of their Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2021 Estate Soul of a Lion is particularly special, being the “crown jewel” of DAOU, and we understand why with the bright, deep notes focusing on rich berries and luxurious spices.

LOCAL FAVORITE, THE FARMHOUSE, OPENS AT DESCANSO GARDENS
The Farmhouse at Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar is a rarity as it is a true local favorite and tourist destination alike, which is often hard to accomplish. The food is incredible and incredibly sustainable, and the ambiance is unparalleled in its subtle farmhouse splendor. Chef Richard Mead is finally opening a second location in Los Angeles at the Descanso Gardens in La Cañada, at either the end of this year or the very start of 2025. The second location is said to be almost 7,000 square feet, with a stunning open kitchen, a bar seamlessly crafted by the fallen trees from the gardens, and a beautiful expansive patio. The menu is said to carry over the same farm-to-table ideal, however, it varies in its contents. We’re extremely excited to do a side-by-side comparison and see a taste of Orange County brought to Los Angeles.

AN UNPARALLELED PUNTA MITA EXPERIENCE AT CASA TAU
PHOTOS BY CORBIN BALLARD
WORDS BY BROOKLYN COPPOCK
Casa Tau in Punta Mita, Mexico, is a remarkable retreat where powdery white sands meet waves that gently caress the shore, and sunsets unfold directly before your eyes. This home transcends the ordinary; it’s as if the owners discovered a slice of heaven in Mexico and transformed it into an exquisite haven. Nestled in Punta Mita on one of Mexico’s most prestigious beaches within the Los Ranchos Estate development, Casa Tau is designed to fulfill every desire and need of its guests, offering an unparalleled experience of opulence and serenity.
Punta Mita has been transformed from a location to a hot-spot destination for Mexico vacations in recent years. Punta Mita is a 1,500-acre private peninsula located on the north end of Banderas Bay in the Mexican state of Nayarit, about 10 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
The area is home to the Four Seasons, St. Regis, and 16 sub-communities. The peninsula holds within its gates everything from golf courses, luxury hotels, and homes which vary from condos to small homes to mansions. The area has risen in popularity in the last several years for being the place that has it all for tropical vacations. Punta Mita is not only one of the most prestigious stretches of beach in
Mexico, but also distinguished for its top-of-the-line golf courses, wild adventures lying in its jungles, and pristine places to stay which hold so much in store. Whether it be private beach clubs or taking it all in from the views of high-class oceanside golf courses, Punta Mita is sure to prove why it is a growing must-see destination. It’s not done yet, though. Punta Mita continues to be an ongoing development with plans for expansion going forward, including the current construction of the Montage and Pendry locations, ensuring this spot is never going out of style.
At the heart of the Casa Tau experience is General Manager Sabrina Franchini, the cornerstone of the entire operation, ensuring that every guest enjoys a seamless and memorable stay. With meticulous attention to detail, Sabrina oversees all aspects of the Casa Tau experience, from maintaining immaculate staff quality to promptly addressing any issues. Her expertise in luxury hospitality shines through her sophisticated, organized approach and her ability to anticipate guests' needs, always one step ahead. Sabrina’s dedication extends beyond routine duties, offering a sense of luxury and comfort that elevates the entire experience.
“ CASA TAU FEELS LIKE YOUR OWN PERSONAL HOTEL WITHIN A HOME.”
Casa Tau feels like your own personal hotel within a home. The sanctuary includes twelve en-suite bedrooms, with five distinct villas, providing accommodations for up to 30 guests. In addition to the twelve bedrooms, the villa also holds a private infinity pool and jacuzzi, a private beach, an exercise room, a beach fire pit, a media room, and a spa area. The villa was designed with large groups in mind, but its design provides a simultaneous opportunity for a balance of exciting group get-togethers and shared intimate moments.
The retreat embraces an open-air layout which allows for guests to submerge themselves in every moment of the landscape. The various living areas and rooms are set up to grant guests a grand view of the pristine and private beach, which comes as an amenity to staying at the villa. Guests can experience the epitome of relaxation that comes in Punta Mita as they smell the salt from the ocean, feel the breeze, and soak in the warmth of the sun, from the comfort of their bed or various areas to lounge waiting just a few feet away from them.
The hub of the villa is a Banyan tree. Each entity of Casa Tau was specially designed to ensure the protection of the long-standing tree’s roots, allowing the structures to seamlessly blend with the nature of the villa’s surroundings. This innovative design could only be executed by the work of renowned Hispanic designers, Juan Collignon, Manolo Mestre, and Alfonso Orozco (construction).
“THE
RETREAT IS SET UP TO HOST THE LIKENESS OF THE PRESIDENT.”
Both Collignon and Mestre are notable for their work in creating distinguished designs for projects that cohesively create a setting where nature meets man. Their works are noted for relying on the role of nature to set the tone for their designs, often producing serene atmospheres with blends of warm and earthy tones, bright spaces, and natural resources to elevate the setting. Collignon is known for profound artistic vision and a mastery of natural materials, often blending simplicity with striking beauty. Meanwhile, Mestre’s work is marked by a deep respect for the natural environment, innovative use of materials, and a focus on creating luxurious yet harmonious living spaces. Together, with the project of Casa Tau they created a space that synchronizes nature with luxurious amenities in a modern Mexican architectural design.
The influence of these designers is clear as Casa Tau’s breathtaking design features light tones of cool cement and stones while incorporating darker, earthy tones of wood. The structures are majorly uniform in their open-air design with hut-like thatch roofs, wood pillars, and cement and stone walls which cohesively combine the structure and its surroundings. The main palapa, which dually acts as the main dining area and distinct outdoor space for lounging, is an architectural spectacle. With its grand parota wood pillars, raising the ceiling high, and mesmerizing view of all that is waiting right in front of you, its marvel is sure to make you do a double-take. You can do this whilst enjoying a premier drink, handcrafted by mixologists, as the palapa serves as a popular pre-dinner drink location. This simple yet pristine approach to design makes you feel as though you are right in the heart of the environment in the home that stays true to the culture of Punta Mita.
While Casa Tau, with all its great luxury and amenities, is exquisite, the bedrooms are not to be glanced over. The Master Suite Villa, Second Master Suite Villa, Garden Villa, Guest Apartment, and Guest House contain a total of 12 guest bedrooms, 3 OceanFront king suites, and one double bedroom spread throughout. The different villas allow for a unique perspective on the property, whether it be the magnificent ocean or brilliant garden.
“GUESTS CAN EXPERIENCE THE EPITOME OF RELAXATION...SMELL THE SALT FROM THE OCEAN, FEEL THE BREEZE, AND SOAK IN THE WARMTH OF THE SUN.”
With their wide doors and open layout, the rooms are light and airy. To complement the simple, naturistic design of the structures, the novel work of artists Jorge Marin and Sergio Bustamente was incorporated to bring in extra senses of Hispanic flare, which makes this luxurious resort dually act as a home and sanctuary to be enjoyed and relaxed in.
The art featured in the home is composed of several forms of sculpture, yarnwork, and pottery. The pieces play on the balance of color and simplicity, allowing the colors of the greenery that surrounds you from every angle and the brilliance of the ocean to captivate your attention. The artwork is reflective of the culture of modern contemporary Mexican art, where these forms are distinct. The sculptures outstandingly depict mythical creatures, including mermaids, emphasizing the sanctuary’s connection to the ocean. While the art is rather minimal, the pieces featured are intricate and detailed, elevating the rooms and reflecting Mexican luxury and comfort.
While the transcendent qualities of the retreat speak for themselves, the encounters that you will come by with the staff sets apart Casa Tau from any other vacation spot you have experienced before. The villa includes 15 staff members on-site, consisting of several butlers, housekeeping, mixologists, chefs, kitchen and serving staff, and more.
“CASA TAU IS FULLY EQUIPPED TO BRING YOU THE GET-AWAY OF YOUR DREAMS.”
The staff are trained consistently to cater to guests' unique preferences, making each visit to Casa Tau completely personalized and distinct. You may stay several times, with no trip resembling another, if you so choose; but one thing that remains firm in the Casa Tau experience is the quality of staff. Whether it be a family trip or corporate event, the exclusive rental home is designed to exceed its guests' expectations of a luxurious and relaxing getaway.
The retreat is set up to host the likeness of the President, but every guest is met with the same eagerness to please when staying at Casa Tau. The kitchen staff alone holds 6-12 members, ensuring your meals are pristine. Like any Michelin restaurant, you’re not only sure to be served to the highest standard, with beautiful plating and well-timed servings, but to experience truly gourmet cuisine that doesn’t lack heart and soul. Whether you request Asian cuisine, or Italian fine dining, or utilize the outdoor pizza oven amenities, you are sure to be presented with an interactive dining experience. While dining, you can watch the chefs, who have been meticulously trained in European retreats to ensure the food is something that never misses, create your spectacular meals.
With four house butlers on staff, the treatment of guests is nothing short of superb. From the moment you step into the oasis, you’re met with bags being taken out of your hands and shortly thereafter unpacked, quickly making Casa Tau a place of ease. The butlers are prepared for just about any request they’re met with. It may be an electrifying fireworks show, a relaxing sunset picnic on the soft, white sand, or booking your excursions. Casa Tau is fully equipped to bring you the getaway of your dreams.
Whether it be with family, friends, or co-workers, Casa Tau creates a universal encounter of comfort and luxury with the fusion of an astonishing, true-tonature home and first-class treatment by the staff to make an experience you cannot miss that encompasses the heart of the Punta Mita destination.

There are many brands that when you see their branding and symbols you instantly think of that company. From swooshes to arches, your mind quickly thinks of these businesses. But in very few cases a symbol conjures up thoughts of not only the brand but the quality and excellence that the brand exudes. The spirit of ecstasy is one of those monolithic symbols of both Rolls-Royce and pure excellence.
couldn’t afford to be down. I told myself that I was going to go into the car business until I figured out my next move. Here I am 8 years later.” What looked like a failure at the beginning was the start of a huge new chapter for Kellyn.
Rolls-Royce for a lot of us is a goal or a benchmark of not just wealth but of success. Being able to sit behind the perfectly crafted wheel, and nuzzle into the fine stitched seats. The car isn’t just a vehicle but a shining example of victory and accomplishment.
Walking into the Rolls-Royce showroom in Orange County, you are greeted very simply by the legacy and excellence you have come to expect from the Double R. I am greeted by a smiling face and a warm welcome. It’s Kellyn Dixon, the brand manager for Rolls-Royce.
Kellyn is poised, strong, and confident. But yet, still so approachable and warm. As you talk more with her you see her drive and desire for excellence. She is unafraid to face any challenge and boldly marches forth. We at NOBLEMAN have had the privilege of working with her and her team on several different occasions and events. With each moment of interaction, it left us thinking, “We must know her more!”
Recently I had the absolute honor to sit down with Kellyn Dixon the brand manager for Rolls-Royce Orange County. Kellyn exemplifies the excellence and dedication Rolls-Royce emanates. She shares her struggles, her victories, and her favorite Rolls-Royce moments with us.
"I KNEW HOW I WANTED TO LIVE, I WAS NOT AFRAID TO WORK FOR IT AND I KNEW I DIDN’T WANT TO DEPEND ON ANYONE ELSE TO GET ME THERE."
Kellyn is a host of a podcast called “Inside the Drive”, where she talks to her guests and Rolls-Royce owners. She allows them to tell their stories of success and failure. “How often do you look and say, ‘I wonder who's driving that car?’ So I just figured why not create a platform where they can hear the struggle they can hear what it takes to become successful.” Kellyn is not a stranger to failure and loss.
Seeing her family lose everything in the recession in 2008, was a pivotal moment for her. “I knew how I wanted to live, I was not afraid to work for it and I knew I didn’t want to depend on anyone else to get me there.” From launching her tech startup with a business partner, which led to the developer scamming her out of everything. “I was a single mother with no support from my son’s father financially or emotionally. I
She started selling cars at Honda. Kellyn grew up around the automotive industry, so it wasn’t a stretch for her to enter while she needed to get her feet back on the ground. But success came quickly and abundantly. “I was at Honda for only three months. On my final weekend at Honda, I sold 17 cars. 17 cars in one weekend. I beat everyone, I don't think anyone had ever done that in a weekend.” From that point, she went from Porsche to Bentley and found herself as an integral part of an award-winning Rolls-Royce team.
In 2022 Kellyn and her team won the “Global Bespoke Dealer of the Year” award. An honor very few people claim. She plans on continuing the legacy of Rolls-Royce.”Rolls-Royce is the standard of automotive excellence because of its commitment to craftsmanship, luxurious design, extensive customization options, and heritage.” Kellyn proves to her clients every day why she was awarded such a prestigious honor.
With poise, grit, and vulnerability, Kellyn continues to redefine success in her way. “Success to me is doing something that you love, and then not striving for recognition. I would say 80 percent of my new clients are referrals, these clients are from different cities and even different states. So the fact that a client will reach out to me when they have other options that may be closer to them, It's very flattering. Something happened recently, I went to a parent-teacher conference and my son's teacher shared that my son constantly talks about how proud he is of me. That felt like success to me, I'd rather be a celebrity in my own home than anywhere else.”
As I left Rolls-Royce, I was so inspired and encouraged by her that day. Not only did I get to see the apex of excellence in automotive but I was able to receive amazing advice with a genuine smile. If you want to have an experience far beyond just car shopping, book an appointment with Kellyn and you will not be disappointed.

SPIRIT OF NOBLEMAN
DISCOVER THE PERFECT SUMMER DUO WITH OUR NOBLEMAN ' S FEATURED COCKTAILS: A REFRESHING POOLSIDE SIPPER AND AN ELEGANT EVENING DELIGHT.
BY: THEO MAXFIELD
PALOMA
Arguably, the Paloma, is shaping up to be the drink of the summer. Recently there has been a huge surge of popularity and rise in articles on this drink has led to a lot of my patrons asking for this refreshing and tangy tequila-based cocktail at the bar. Whilst people are just discovering this beautiful drink over here, in its country of origin, Mexico, it is perhaps even more popular than the Margarita.
As with most classic cocktails, the provenance of this drink is lost to myths and legends, but the name is likely to have come from the Spanish word for ‘dove’ or a derivation of the word pomelo, Spanish for ‘grapefruit’. Either way, I do know one thing for sure, that a Poloma is the perfect, long, cooling summer cocktail. Designed to counter the effects of the hot sun; vibrant and crisp, the sharp, bitterness of the grapefruit and herbaceous notes of the tequila pair perfectly.
Note that a lot of classic recipes will call for grapefruit flavored sodas such as Fresca, Squirt or Jarritos however I prefer the au natural approach of combining freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and club soda for a far better and ‘real’ tasting drink. It’s definitely a recipe you should know how to make from scratch and sure to be a winner at poolside parties and gatherings this summer.
INGREDIENTS
2 OZ
1 OZ)
¾ OZ
¾ OZ
Tequila Blanco (I used Fortaleza)
Pink grapefruit juice
Lime juice
Agave nectar
Pinch of salt & Club soda to top
METHOD
Combine the Tequila, grapefruit & lime juices, agave and salt in a shaker with ice and shake hard for a few seconds until properly chilled. Double strain into a tall cocktail glass with ice and top with the club soda. Garnish with a half-wheel of grapefruit. Optionally, you can rim the glass with salt or Tajin for an extra kick.
MANHATTAN
Slick, classy and sophisticated, a Manhattan cocktail is undoubtedly a cool drink, one that feels most at home at a black-tie dinner or a New York City cocktail bar. My go to digestif, the perfect evening concoction, and only really appropriate to drink after dark. It has a mystic and sexy appeal that shadows even a classic Martini, it’s a recipe all cocktail enthusiasts and drink lovers should know by heart.
Whilst it might not be as iconic as a Gin Martini or popular as a Negroni, it is likely more important and older than both. First appearing around the 1860-1870s, the Manhattan is arguably the first truly modern cocktail, incorporating a fortified wine to bring about sweetness and a new depth of flavor, rarely seen before. The original recipe would have called for equal parts of whiskey and vermouth, the change in people’s palates over time, opting for drier and stronger drinks, resulted in scaling back the vermouth and producing the preferred ratio of 2 to 1 (of whiskey to vermouth) that we are more familiar with today. This recipe is technically a ‘Sweet’ Manhattan – utilizing a full bodied rich Italian style vermouth such as Cocchi, you might come across a ‘Dry’ Manhattan opting for drier French style vermouth, or a ‘Perfect’ Manhattan where an equal split of the two are used. Rye whiskey is a must for the base here, the notes of pepper and spices combined with the aromatic and herbal vermouth to create a well balanced and complex drink. If you like your nightcaps strong and paired with a good Cuban cigar, this drink is for you.
2 OZ
2 DASHES
INGREDIENTS METHOD
Rye Whiskey (I used Elijah Craig) Cocchi Vermouth di Torino Angostura bitters
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with cracked ice, stir well until properly chilled, strain into an ice-cold cocktail glass. Express the peel of an orange over the glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry on a cocktail stick.
Luxardo Maraschino cherries are widely available and perfect for this drink.

HOW STEVEN SIEBERT AND UOMOSPORT ARE BRINGING BACK AND MOVING
FORWARD TENNIS FASHION
WORDS BY TOM BURLESON
If you've been around NOBLEMAN or any major tennis escapade you have heard the name UomoSport a lot. If this is your first time hearing of the groundbreaking tennis fashion brand named after the Italian word for “man”, be prepared to fall in love with sportswear unlike you have ever seen before. UomoSport is on the cutting edge of the “Luxury-High Performance” game and only plans to look back for inspiration on looks while pushing forward everything from textures to fabrics. Uomo is gearing up for a style lounge at Wimbledon, as well as events all over the world of tennis.
The man at the point of this ensemble evolution is none other than Steven Siebert. A man who is no stranger to the tennis world. Though he has been a California resident since the age of 15, Steven was raised in New Jersey. As he grew up he was always into sports, primarily basketball. He was enamored by the style and pizazz of the early Knicks teams, and the confidence emanating from none other than Walt “Clyde'' Frazier. But everything shifted when a young Steven went to the New England Tennis Academy. Something seemingly small impacted Steven in his very core like tossing a rock into still water.
He was awarded clubhouse passes to go see the US Open. As Siebert walked around the event center he was in awe of all of the tennis icons around him. The simple yet bold flair of Arthur Ashe, the clean three-stripes of Nastase, and even the edgy bad boy himself Jimmy Connors. Steven was all in after that moment.
Looking back to those icons, UomoSport strives to resuscitate the vintage looks and dress of tennis worldwide. Tennis and style once were synonymous, and to Uomo’s estimation, the quality and standard have lost their way with new cheaper fabrics and flashy non-functional styles.
As Steven Siebert said, “The courts today look more like a Richard Simmons Dance Class, than high-performance tennis garments.” Noticing the cheap fabrics and the lack of individuality brought forth by the major brands, ignited a fire in Siebert and his team to focus fully on fabrics and bring back the pride in fashion tennis once carried.
UomoSport won’t stop banging the drum of fabrics. “The clothing on your skin should be equally as important, the equipment you use, the racket and the strings. It hasn't been that way for a while.” Steven told me. “Quality is something that we just obsess over, you know, um, it's evident in every detail.” None more obvious than in the microfiber pockets found in the UomoSport shorts. Made of half mesh and half Italian microfiber, the pocket helps reduce sweat and friction on the ball, while it eagerly waits in your pocket for your next serve. This relatively small detail took years to manifest.
UomoSport is dedicated to asking all of the questions, so the player doesn’t have to. Their obsession with quality and fabric ensures that the player can move comfortably, look their best, and have the adaptability from court to life. As Steven tells us as UomoSport was starting, it took them five years to release a pair of shorts. They went through multiple iterations and alterations in search of the perfect blend. “I think anything you do, you have to be meticulous about your work. Because if you do your work right, it'll stand the test of time.” It’s this blind determination and dedication to perfection that encapsulates UomoSport and captures the true spirit of tennis.
The clothing on your skin should be equally as important, the equipment you use, the racket and the strings. It hasn't been that way for a while. “ ”
What started as a simple annoyance at modern-day tennis apparel, quickly shifted into a fiery epiphany that launched Steven into his full obsession. UomoSport has not only changed the fashion for men’s sports but also available for women. The Luxury High Performance of UomoSport is taking the entire tennis world by storm. UomoSport is not one to rest on their laurels either. They are always chasing, always exploring, and always striving to be the best in their lane. From colors to collars, UomoSport has asked everything so you don’t have to worry about anything but the furious backhand of your opponent. So do yourself a favor, put down your racket, and head straight to UomoSport to upgrade your form and your fabrics.

ou might best know Chace for his breakout role as Nate Archibald in the massively popular television series Gossip Girl, or his current starring role as The Deep on the hit series The Boys. Or you might’ve seen him in the 2006 supernatural drama The Covenant. “Terrible movie, please don’t see it,” Chace pipes in. Right from the outset, it’s clear that he’s humble, with an easy demeanor and a self-deprecating sense of humor. Chace doesn’t take himself too seriously, and his jovial mood is contagious, making all those around him smile and enjoy their day.
On a typical golden sunny California afternoon, we meet in a beautiful Pacific Palisades mansion, located just off Sunset Boulevard. The Nobleman photoshoot unfolds over a couple of hours and several outfit changes. The vibe is casual and fun. His manner is friendly, his vibe is approachable, and he speaks in a laconic and affable way, with more than a hint of Texas drawl remaining.
So who is this man, Chace Crawford, who we’ve seen on screens both big and small for the past two decades? What can we expect, from the star of What to Expect When You’re Expecting? What’s it like to have former Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo for a brother-in-law? And what makes a Nobleman? The conversation begins:
Let’s talk first about your acting career. How did you get into acting?
It's a weird story. I never dreamed of acting as a career. I did a play in high school, and it gave me a little taste. I have always been on the artsy side. I did photography and painting in high school. When I came out to California to go to Pepperdine University, I had a little bit of a freak out not knowing what I wanted to do.
Once I got into Pepperdine, I had the thought, what am I gonna major in? I got into an acting class, to get out of my shell; and to meet some new people, and that's where I fell in love with acting. It was an abstract Meisner technique class, and I met some people there who introduced me to an agency, and I went from there.
What was your first big break?
I remember screen testing for Friday Night Lights. Being from Texas, needless to say, I wanted this role. The role was for Jason Street, the quarterback. I didn't get it, and I was devastated. Then later, Gossip Girl came around. It was based on these popular books. My initial thoughts were “It's a stupid name for a series; they gotta change the name.”
So I got that role and then moved to New York pretty quickly when I just turned 21. The iPhone had just come out. It was great. So, that was a big jump in my career. That became my college experience in a way. My growing up.
How do you choose roles? What preparation goes into choosing roles?
I tend to choose to work on projects with people I wanna work with. When The Boys came along from Amazon, I read the first two scenes and I was hooked! That kind of dark, weird humor is my thing. I’m so thankful that The Boys came along. So now, whoever will hire me for the most money is where I go. (Laughter)

VINCE KNIT
How would you describe the fan base of The Boys?
The fan base is rabid. It ranges from middle-aged women to Gen Z kids in high school to, you know, my parents. They even like it! There is certainly a barrier to entry with the violence and blood factor. If you can't stomach that, you're not gonna like it. But it's a weird enough show where everyone can find what they like within it. It talks about very real things that are going on in the real world. But it's this crazy world where superheroes are real.
What's been the most challenging scene to play in your whole acting career? It's definitely from The Boys. Yeah. There was a scene in Season 2 where my character The Deep goes on his tangent into a Scientology-adjacent type of religion. He’s on this spiritual journey, and his buddy gives him mushroom tea. I don't know what I'm drinking. So my character is starting to trip out on mushroom tea.
I’m in this room, pretending to have a mental breakdown. My character has gills. He's this freak of nature. That's his insecurity. He's like an X-Men type guy, insecure about his gills, and his gills start talking to him. So I have this whole scene where I'm talking to my gills. I have someone else off-camera reading the lines, but I'm having this big freak out.
In the end, I have to break down and sing “You Are So Beautiful To Me” with my gills. It was embarrassing, and it was great, and it turned out super weird and amazing. That was a very challenging, technical scene to do.
What role does social media play now, about fame and fandom?
It's funny because when I first started my acting career, social media wasn't even a thing. Camera phones were barely a thing. Like I said, The iPhone just came out when Gossip Girl started.
Now, we've veered into the realm of too many influencer-type people. People kind of faking it, and projecting this false perfect image. What people want, is just to see your authentic self. They wanna see your sense of humor and your authenticity come through.
I'm still not great at social media. But it does help, for projects. People may hire you if you have a certain following and kinda put that out there with people. It is sort of a brand thing, but I try to share naturally and authentically. Humor is the way the way to go with it. I don’t do a ton of social media. I don't have the TikTok thing. I asked my seventeen-year-old cousin: “Should I get a TikTok?” She was like, “That would be thirsty. So you should not do that.” I took that to heart, so no TikTok for me.

What would be your dream role to play? You talked about missing out on the quarterback role from Friday Night Lights. Is there another role that you would love to have played?
One of my first favorite movies I saw when I was younger, was when my dad showed me Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman. Iconic movie. Iconic role. They don't make movies like that anymore. To have that kind of a journey with that character and sort of have some southern feel to it; some dirtiness, some grittiness - that would be great.
Fight Club is one of my favorite films. To work with a genius director like David Fincher and do something gritty and edgy would be fun for me too.
Is there a prop from any of the characters you've played that you wish you would have kept?
Let me think. Maybe all the clothes from Gossip Girl would have been nice. They didn't give me anything! The role I’m currently playingThe Deep - just has this stupid onesie suit. It's neoprene, and it’s hot as hell. It's terrible. So he's got nothing for me. There's nothing I've ever wanted to keep, I guess. Just maybe some clothes.
What role has sports played in your life?
Sports was the first thing me and my dad connected on. He would take me to college basketball games growing up, and Dallas Cowboys games. I'm a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. (Relevant factoid reminder: Cowboys QB legend Tony Romo is married to Chace Crawford’s sister). We lived in Minnesota for a few years. My dad and I would go to the old Metrodome to watch NFL football, and it was incredible.
"THE
CRITICISM
OF YOUR WORK IS HOW YOU IMPROVE."
Warren Moon was the quarterback. Moon was just great, but Troy Aikman from the Cowboys was my guy.
A lot of kids look up to actors. For me, athletes were my star-struck moments. So, football was a big part of my childhood. Me and my dad connected with that. I had all the trading cards back in the day. Dallas won back-to-back championships (1992 & 1993), and we were hooked. Wore my Cowboys star jacket, the whole nine. So I grew up wanting to play football. That was my main thing. I played great in Pee Wee. I was really good. Texas football starts in 5th grade. So, I played a little bit of high school football, but I wasn't great. I was on the bench.
Then about freshman year of high school, my dad said “Listen, son. You're probably not gonna grow past 5’11’. Okay, you should maybe switch to golf.” So I was a nerd in high school for playing golf, but now it's kind of the cool thing. You can play golf all through your life.
And you're still a golfer to this day.
I'm still a golfer. I have a love-hate relationship with golf. I've quit and picked it back up many times. But I still try to play, and that's kinda how I connect with my dad nowadays. And my brother-in-law is an amazing golfer as well. So I go back to Texas and play with them as much as I can.
Do you have a favorite golf experience?
I do. Jim Nantz, the national treasure. Took me and my dad and brother-inlaw to play Cypress Point in Monterey, California. Iconic course. You got Jim Nantz walking up to the 18th hole, giving you the lay of the land. Giving you the whole rundown, in his legendary voice. Great experience for me. I'll never forget that. The 16th hole in Cyprus is a par 3 over the water. It's beautiful. One of the most well-known holes in golf. I’ll never forget it.
Do you have other hobbies, besides acting and golfing?
When I crossed over the 30-year-old threshold, I got into cooking somehow. My girlfriend at the time taught me how to cook a whole chicken. So I started to pick up cooking, and then it accelerated. During the pandemic, there was nothing to do. So I'm the guy with the sourdough starter, and it was slightly embarrassing.
Then I picked up cycling. I hate calling it cycling. (Laughter). But now I’m that idiot in the full leotard. When I started, I thought I was never gonna do that. You know? It started with a hybrid bike, and I just felt like a kid out there. So fun and free. The year 2020 accelerated that hobby too. You're just out there on a bike playing around. And now I'm doing the full triathlon thing. It's a lot. It’s an addiction.
How do you stay even and centered with all the ups and downs of a Hollywood career?
All my time in the gym keeps me mentally sane. Riding the bike is very meditative for me. To balance out the nomadic lifestyle of traveling as an actor, and often living out of a suitcase, it’s important to establish your sacred home base. As I said I like to cook and stay at home with the dog. I guess that's all I do. I’m a reader. I'm a nerdy reader who is very into books and just chilling at home.
Do you have a favorite book? A book that's made a big impact on your life?
The first book I ever read was Where the Red Fern Grows. My dad bribed me with a Super Nintendo Ken Griffey video game if I finished the book. I’ll never forget that dangling carrot, which turned out to be an iconic video game. I fell in love with reading. The Lord of the Rings trilogy might be my favorite of all time.

Julie Cameron's The Artist's Way made the greatest impact on me. Doing the morning pages, and sort of figuring all that stuff - a lifechanging book. Lately, I read a lot the “self-help” nonfiction stuff.
What are some of your hopes for your future, both personal and career?
Hopes? I’ve had a good run on The Boys. But I definitely wanna create my own material and create my unique role. I have some ideas. Owning some IP, and having some more skin in the game from the ground up, is sort of where I see myself going. Donald Glover is an inspiration. I see all these people doing their material, and I think that's my next adventure. I wanna go in that direction.
What's your pet peeve?
I've got so many pet peeves. I feel like I'm the best driver in the world. I think everyone else doesn't know how to drive. That's the problem. No one uses blinkers. The little things bug me. I gotta check my anger. In the kitchen, if I'm doing the cooking thing, I need to just be there on my own. Don’t bother me while I’m cooking!

What inspires you in life?
If you're ever getting down in the industry, it's tough. If you're ever feeling like you've lost that spark and that motivation, I turn to good older movies.
Good movies and good books are the well that I draw from. Finding that material - finding that book that creates a spark again - is very important. You gotta keep yourself interested and motivated because in this industry you can get discouraged pretty easily.
Circling back around, I was intrigued when you mentioned that acting class in college - a certain method that you were taught. What was that style of acting you learned, and do you still use those techniques? How would you describe your acting style?
I have drawn from a bunch of different things. In that class, I learned the Meisner technique, Sandy Meisner. It's really like the Stanislavski Method - “the art of experiencing” - but it was very abstract for me at the time. They start with repetition and repeating what someone's saying and it’s all about observation. Observing what someone’s doing, then speaking and reacting naturally, and learning to flow with your reactions and emotions as opposed to just saying the lines and getting it right and hitting your mark.
I did the Beverly Hills Playhouse too, which is more stage work, and it was a little more technical. The script breakdown I got from the method techniques. The playhouse was using more of your voice and movement on stage. It was bigger, and the critiques were helpful. The criticism of your work is how you improve.
And then even doing Gossip Girl, how technical it was, and formulaic shooting-wise. That crucible of doing day-in and day-out work is a big lesson. Learning on set how to be a pro, to get through a full day, and do take after take and do different things technically each time; was sort of like a class in itself.
Is there a certain genre of movie you enjoy watching and making? Or are you open to all types of films?
I'm a sci-fi nerd, although I've never made a sci-fi movie. I love those oldschool comedies as well. Judd Apatow comedies, like 40-Year-Old Virgin and Stepbrothers. I mean, all the way to the other dramatic side of the cinematic spectrum. I loved Magnolia growing up. Boogie Nights. I was really into those two movies.
So as we wind down the interview, how would you define a nobleman?
A nobleman is someone who takes responsibility for themselves. To be a real, grown-up adult. I'm still learning to grow into myself, learn what I like, and learn who I wanna be around. All those things go into it. It's protecting that sense of self. What do I want? And then to go after it in the world! It's a little bit about being selfish with your time, focusing on doing exactly what you want to do, and not getting distracted.

You look like you are having so much fun as a father, how have you learned to excel not just at home plate but at home also?
I'm still learning. For my line of work, it wasn't easy to be there for every event with my kids, my wife had to pick up the slack in the areas I couldn’t. So now that I'm retired, I'm getting to enjoy all the moments, all the games, and the practices. My daughter plays volleyball, and my son plays baseball. So I'm trying to be at any activity that I can, and I am enjoying it. What makes it even more enjoyable is that my kids seem to enjoy their sports so much. So just seeing the passion that they do have for the game and how committed they are, it's just fulfilling.
Coming from the Dominican Republic, I was playing not only because I love the game, but it was my way out to support my family. My kids grow up differently. They are already pretty much taken care of and they do it because they're passionate about it.
You've had an illustrious career in baseball. What initially sparked your passion for the game, and how did it shape your childhood?
For most of the Dominican kids, especially boys, all we know is baseball. It's our main sport. My dad played baseball in the Dominican Republic, but I didn't see him play. But I was told he was quite good. So, ever since I was a little kid, all I knew was baseball. Even though I started playing organized baseball a little late, almost 13, I still played with my cousins and friends in the neighborhood with a tennis ball and a stick.
I always had a passion for baseball, but once I got to play organized baseball, as a team, I just fell in love with it. That's all I wanted to do, I was a good student in school, but I never saw myself as a doctor or a lawyer. I just saw myself as a baseball player and I knew that I had to give a hundred percent every time because you not only have to be good, you have to be lucky, and somebody has to see your talent. Then on top of all of that, they have to allow you to be in a position to succeed. For me, I did not want to give that away.
How were you able to keep your playful spirit as well as stay competitive and elite?
Well, it wasn't easy. I enjoyed playing the game, but at the same time, I was adamant about respecting my teammates and respecting my opponents. So at the beginning of my career, it was hard to separate the two of them. Especially because when I first came up in 1998, It was different. The rookies have to be in the corner because you're like nobody. That was how it was in the league back then. It has changed a lot now, but you know, it took me years to understand that at the end of the day, it was the same game that I played when I was a young boy in my neighborhood. At the time it became like a business and unfortunately, I saw it as work.
So for a while, I was not enjoying the game, and I was not performing well. Especially when I was in Seattle, I just didn't perform the way I wanted to. But once I understood, when you just have fun, play the game right, and enjoy what you do, your talent comes out easier. So then I started to have more fun with the game. I would do everything I could to be ready, prepare mentally, prepare physically, and give 100 percent between those lines. But still enjoy the game and whatever happens, happens.
So once I started taking that mentality more seriously, then I began to perform better. I started to show who I was as a player, as a person, and even as that little Dominican kid with bigleague dreams. I was more than happy being there and being lucky to be playing at the highest level. I had to remember how many people wanted to be in my shoes. This was a privilege and I would just play every day like it was my last day because I knew that anybody could come after my job any day.
Throughout your career, you played with and against many talented players. Who were some of the teammates or opponents that left a lasting impression on you?
I have had a lot of teammates who made big impressions on me, but different guys in different ways. When I played with Sean Green, the way he cared about himself, the way he prepared himself, and the way he was always adamant about finding ways to help. He was always trying to help the team, and the ball club and he was not shy about coming to you and helping you whatever you needed to do. He was just an unselfish player. He was such a great teammate to have.
I played with Michael Young in my last years in Texas, and he was kind of similar to Green. Whatever the team needed to do to be successful, he was willing to do. He would play different positions, whatever needed to be done he would step up. I highly admired that.
I also had teammates that kind of sparked that playful side of me, like Felix Hernandez. You need to have those guys around you. They bring the best out of you and at the same time help you enjoy what you do. So I have a lot of different teammates that have a lot to do with my career.
What was more special? Your first hit or your 3,000th? I get asked that question a lot and it's hard to answer absolutely. But when I think about what it meant to me, the situation, and who was up on the field, I have to say the three thousand. Because I expected to get my first hit in the big leagues once I was there. But I never expected to get to 3000 hits whatsoever. Never in my mind, was that even a possibility early on. Not only that, the fact that I had my wife, my kids, my mom, my dad, and friends present, and my family was able to come to the field and greet me. That, I think, was my favorite.
You’ve had the same number for basically your whole major league career. Does the number 29 have any significance to you?
In the beginning, it didn't. But I remember seeing a picture of my dad in a baseball uniform, and the number was 29. I never asked him why he chose that number. But when I got a call to the big leagues, I was wearing number 46 in the minor league. 46 was not available, so I asked them what numbers were available. They told me like three numbers and 29 was one of them. So I just chose 29. It wasn't me looking specifically for that number, but I just liked it.
What was your approach to maintaining a healthy mindset throughout the highs and lows of your career?
Well truthfully, it came with experience. At the beginning of my career, I was hard on myself. Because I just knew that I was on my way out for my family, and it was my responsibility to provide for everybody. So I put a lot of stress on myself. I put too much stress on myself that I have to be better, I have to be good. So because of that, I was not enjoying the game. I worked hard, and I was dedicated, but I was not focusing on learning what I needed to be learning at that time.
I had a lot of conversations with my wife, which kind of opened my eyes a little bit. Because I was not enjoying life, because I felt like I was playing badly. On top of that, my team was not doing good, and I blamed myself. When I got through those conversations with my wife, it helped me see that no matter what happened on the field, I'm still a husband. I'm still a father. When I finally understood that and learned that, it helped me be able to leave the baseball on the field and go home and be a family man.
Once I learned how to feel the lows, it was easy to be more neutral once I got it. Because you are gonna struggle. It can be for a month, it can be for two. It can be for a week, but you need to be the same guy every day and understand that even if you're struggling right now, you're going to get out of it soon enough. No matter if I'm 0/4 or 4/4. So after that, I didn't worry about what my numbers were. Because I believed that I was going to be up there whenever the season was over.
You've been known for your strong work ethic and dedication. What routines or habits did you develop early on that contributed to your success?
I don't think I can point one out, because I changed through the years. I was focused on taking a lot of repetition of ground balls and swinging. Hitting was easier for me in the beginning, that's just what I knew how to do. People got to know me as an offensive player, but defensively I had to work. I had the talent according to coaches and scouts, but I didn't see it at the moment.
But I have to work hard at it. So focus more on taking a lot of ground balls, a lot of ground balls. Because I feel like I want to see every bounce that I can see in batting practice. Then when the game starts, my movements can be just a reaction, nothing that's going to surprise me. I kind of overdid it at times, but it helped me to be mentally prepared and mentally ready.
I always try to keep my body in shape. I had to figure out what I could apply to my workouts every year so I could be more successful and be able to survive 162 games per year. Because in my mind, I always wanted to play. I wanted to play every game that I could.
Also, I would listen to different guys about what they do. Always trying to figure out what all the good players would do to see if it can apply to my routine. I was always dedicated because I knew that it does not only take talent to be in the big leagues, it takes a lot of sacrifice.
I was just trying to stay hungry. I never felt like I stopped learning, I felt like I always had to learn something new every day because the game was evolving. Even though I was getting older, I used that motivation.
As a leader on and off the field, how did you motivate your teammates, and what qualities do you think make an effective leader?
I think it comes in different ways. In the beginning, I was more of a leader just by showing you how I do things. I was always open to learning from other players and seeing how they are, and how they act. I would take the good and try not to take the bad. I saw some great leaders and I saw some terrible ones. In some experiences, I didn't like the way some of those guys led. So I wanted to learn from the good leaders.
When I got to the age and the time of the big leagues when I was put in that role, I always tried to understand the person first and see how I could talk to that person because not everybody is the same, and not everybody listens to the same
way. I constantly focused on being respectful. If you have to call somebody out for something they are doing wrong, I'd rather do it in person. Also, do it just between us. Because when I have to tell you something you were doing wrong, I want to make sure I am being the right example and that I'm coming from a good place. I will never ask something of you that I haven’t strived to get right in my life first.
A few other things I did my best to lead in is showing others to, respect other players and respect your opponents. Also to create habits to be that kind of person where people respect you. There are a lot of players in the big leagues who are good players, but not everybody respects them the way they should. But, some players aren't great and people respect them for the way they play the game, and the way they're carrying themselves.

On a gray Los Angeles day, I pull up to the location I was sent. Checking my maps several times to ensure I had the right address. This was the place I parked and reluctantly walked in. Where was my cover interview you might ask? Where else would you expect us to meet the noble rebel Norman Reedus? A lofty high-rise in Los Angeles? A sprawling mansion in Beverly Hills? No, that didn’t seem right! We caught up with Norman in a perfect setting to meet up with a Boondock Saint, in an abandoned warehouse in East Los Angeles.
As I enter the warehouse I am taken back by the large open room before me. The wrought iron beams and sturdy brick welcome me in. I hear “I Fell In Love With a Girl” by The White Stripes playing in the background. I see none other than Norman Reedus standing in the corner with legendary photographer John Russo behind the lens.
I have been on many NOBLEMAN shoots, but none like this. I pause and laugh quietly to myself. “Of course, this is where we would meet him, this is so perfect!” I say to myself as I get prepared to introduce myself to everyone.

It was in this warehouse in East LA next to John Russo and his amazing team, that I learned a valuable lesson. Since when does everything have to be so clean and put together?
You show me a NOBLEMAN, and I will show you a man who might be well groomed but he hasn’t always been that way. Being a NOBLEMAN is synonymous with living joyfully and striving for excellence. You can never get to the top without getting dirt under your nails or a tear or two on your clothes. The NOBLEMAN spirit is that of courage, charity, and kindness. One who exemplifies such attributes on and off stage is none other than Norman Reedus.
Most known for his role as Daryl Dixon on the worldwide phenomenon AMC’s The Walking Dead. Audiences everywhere (including myself) quickly took to Daryl and his lone wolf with a big-hearted demeanor. The crossbow-wielding warrior with a soft heart valiantly crusaded across the vast zombie wastelands of Georgia.
NOBLEMAN had the honor to sit down with Norman to discuss everything from motorcycles to movies and more. Norman is not a man who knows how to slow down, that's for sure. With the summer release of the Jeff Nichols film, Bikeriders Norman joins one of the most star-studded casts of Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, and Austin Butler. His highly anticipated upcoming projects include Ballerina, a movie based in the John Wick universe the sequel to the groundbreaking video game Death Stranding 2
Daryl Dixon, an addition to the already vast Walking Dead universe has already released two critically acclaimed seasons. Following our favorite crossbow-wielding warrior to the shores of France. Norman tells us that he believes that season two of Daryl Dixon is some of the best episodes ever of The Walking Dead
Your character Daryl Dixon, has meant a lot to audiences all over the world. How do you handle that, and what does that mean to you?
Norman: A lot of people come up to me about Daryl, and say, “Your character helped me get through this chemotherapy, it helped me when my father died, it helped me get through hard times.” I think it's because of how that character is, he wears his heart on his sleeve, and he never lies. He means what he says. These are his feet on the ground and he knows where he stands. This is who he's going to be. He's very comfortable with that. He does things that put him out of his comfort zone to help other people.
I put so much work into that character. I've changed that character. I've sort of had a trajectory, the waves behind me in that trajectory, seem like the right waves. Daryl Dixon was written quite differently, and I fought to change him and alter his path a little bit here and there. Those paths I think are what a lot of people ended up relating to. Like he was supposed to be a racist drug addict, like his brother Myrle. I wanted him to grow up along the way and be uncomfortable that he grew up in a racist family.
Daryl sometimes doesn't seem like a character on a television show, he seems like a real person. I think a lot of people confuse me with that character. Which is good and bad at times.

OTHER PEOPLE INSPIRE ME. I ALWAYS KEEP LEARNING THINGS. I HAVE A REAL THIRST TO LEARN NEW THINGS ALL THE TIME AND LEARN THINGS FROM PEOPLETHAT I ADMIRE.
What has been the best piece of advice that you have received?
My pop used to say, “Life's about choices”. That always made the most sense to me. You can choose to look at it this way or that way. You can choose to act this way, you can choose to act that way. I know it sounds simple but it's very true. Spur-of-themoment choices and how you perceive things in front of you can sort of make or break your path.
You have your hands in so many different things, from photography to art. What do you feel sparks you creatively and inspires you?
Other people inspire me. I always keep learning things. I have a real thirst to learn new things all the time and learn things from people that I admire. I keep meeting people over and over that I admire. Not just like famous people who've done stuff, but people who are doing things that I found cool. When I was filming in Paris, there was a group of young Russian artists there. I kind of fell into this group through this kid I met. This group opened my world to this sort of youthful, rebellious, artistic, 100-mile-an-hour art scene in France.
I want to learn how to cook, I want to learn how to play piano, I want to learn all these things. I asked for piano lessons for Christmas. I have a desire to learn new things all the time. I don't do it to keep me busy. I'd rather take a nap, but honestly, I can't.
Give me a brief history of your love for motorcycles. Where did it start?
I had a kid in class in junior high school named “Toon”. I had a lot of trouble paying attention in class and Toon had the same problem, so he would sit in the back and he would blow these spit bubbles in the air and catch them in his mouth. Naturally, I said, “Teach me how to do that!” So he taught me how to do it. So he and I would sit in the back of the class and blow these bubbles and catch them. This developed into a friendship and we started hanging out. He had a YZ80, and we used to take turns on it. We would then do things like running from police and stuff because it was a very loud little dirt bike. He taught me how to ride, and I kind of fell in love with bikes after that.

IT'S A VERY SELFLESS THING TO BE A GENTLEMAN.
Suit by Dzojchen @dzojchen Boots by Scarosso @scarosso
I THINK YOU SHOULD DEFINE WHAT “MACHO” IS TO YOU. YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR OWN MACHO.
What's your favorite ride you've ever been on?
I have a motorcycle show where I travel the world, called “Ride With Norman Reedus”. I've done Tokyo to Mt. Fuji, and I've driven all over New Zealand. But my favorite rides are always the ones that are not thought out.
I was in Georgia filming and I was invited to go to Nashville for the Country Music Awards. A car was sent to pick me up to take me to the airport. I'm out there watering my flowers in Georgia and I'm looking at my bike, then looking at the flowers, and looking again at the bike. And I just said, “To hell with it!” I grabbed a suit, put it in a backpack, and put it on my back. I packed up and just rode to Nashville. I doodled the directions on my forearm with a Sharpie. Which was the sketchiest part because I kept hitting rainstorm after rainstorm and they slowly started to wash away along the ride. I was going through rainstorms and then sitting under a tree and waiting for it to come out or waiting for a hole in the clouds. Those kinds of rides are always my favorite.
But I'd stop at gas stations and ask, “So how do I get to this freeway? You know, how far away?” Two people would take selfies. I'd stop at the next gas station. There'd be ten people. Then there'd be twenty people. And then I'd be driving and see people holding up signs on the overpass. Because people knew I was going to Nashville. I think there are only two ways to get to Nashville from where I was coming from anyway. Then I rode by a McDonald's and up on the marquee and said, “We love you, Norman.” And I was completely blown away! All the while my phone was blowing up trying to figure out why I wasn’t there for my ride and flight.
What was the coolest bike that you rode?
I have a ‘46 Knucklehead that's made by a dude here in LA. He's at a company called the Power Plant. That knucklehead is phenomenal, but it's super loud. If you're not careful, it's a turn-your-ankle kind of bike. I have an 87 FXR, it's like my favorite bike. I think it just fits my butt the best if that makes sense. Everything's in the right spot. It has this great sound to it. Little flecks of gold on it to feel fancy. I think that's my favorite.
How would you define what a true gentleman looks like? That's a huge question. That's a huge question. I think it has to do with also your circumstances. Being able to listen is a big deal. I love seeing a tough dude that can be scary, but get to know him and he is kind and helpful. Someone empathetic, it takes a really strong man to do something like that. It's a very selfless thing to be a gentleman. I think you should define what “macho” is to you. You need to make your own macho.
As the day came to a close, the sun casually sunk below the clouds. Norman was everything you expected and hoped he would be. He was kind and charming, honest and witty. He was even willing to try things out of his comfort zone, trying colors and fabrics rather than his iconic black and leather. Don’t let the exterior fool you, Norman Reedus is an unorthodox gentleman. A consummate professional who isn’t afraid to cut loose. A man who knows what he is good at, but yet is unafraid to try new things. Every nobleman needs a little grease under his fingernails.

If that wasn’t enough, Tom Ellis, is also a deep well of wisdom and unafraid to be vulnerable. Ellis is as distinguished as they come and NOBLEMAN had the honor to sit down with the leading man. We talked about cars, charities, and his impressive career in Hollywood.
In your career you have gotten to drive some cool cars, do you have a favorite of the cars you got to experience? The obvious one would be Lucifer's Corvette, which was an absolute beast to drive. The car was very quick when driving in a straight line, but it didn't have power steering and it had old drum brakes. So it was a bit of a workout to drive it. I think the weirdest one I probably drove was a car from 1912 for an adaptation of Pollyanna for ITV in the UK. Driving that was an experience all itself, having to pull levers and things. Very different, not something I'd take out daily.
What was the first car you ever owned?
It was technically owned by my parents. My mom had an old Toyota Starlet that only had four gears. We used to drive to and from school. I remember every time I took it to the mechanic, he would say, “this car should not still be working, but somehow it is.” So there's a ringing endorsement for Toyota there.
What is your dream car?
My dream car would probably be like an Aston Martin or a Ferrari. But in the electrical age, I think my dream car these days is a Rivian R1 pickup truck, which I love.
Growing up, did you always want to be an actor?
I didn't actually, I was more obsessed with sports. But I was never quite good enough at any to pursue them professionally. I still thought that I’d end up doing something in sport, like sports injuries or something like physiotherapy. Then when I was 17, I was at school doing my A Levels, which is the last two years of your schooling in the UK, and I was stuck for a subject to choose. My old English teacher came to me and said “I'm running the theater studies course.” And I'd never done any acting or anything at this point, and she said, “I think you'd enjoy it. I've got 12 girls and one boy. I need boys.” And I was like, “I'm gonna stop you right there. How many girls?” (LAUGHS) So, my motivation for getting into it was completely wrong, I must admit. But then I went to a few of the classes and started to fall in love with the process of acting and everything that comes with it.
I'VE HAD TO LEARN TO SAY NO TO JOBS TO TAKE CARE OF THE OTHER ASPECTS OF MY LIFE. “ ”
I heard you follow soccer rather closely. Who is your favorite club?
I'm from Wales originally, but I moved around a lot when I was a kid because of my dad's job. So I was never in one place enough to say, “This is where I'm from”. So I've been affiliated with several soccer teams over the years, but my main team is Arsenal. I love the Premier League so much, it's the best league in the world. Because literally any team can beat any team!
What was it like for you growing up?
Growing up as the kid of a pastor, it's a little bit like being a minor celebrity every Sunday. My dad had this very important role in the church and people looked up to him. Subsequently, people would like to shake hands with the pastor's kids as well. I spent a lot of time mixing with people that maybe I wouldn't have done if I'd only just gone to school. It certainly helped me later in life with things like social skills and communication.
Outside of sports and theater, what other hobbies did you have growing up?
Really, sports were everything to me. I couldn't wait for the school bell to ring at the end of the day to go and do a different sport. Also my mom was a music teacher, so we all got as they say “encouraged”, with instruments at an early age. So I played the trumpet from the age of like five. Then my parents made an executive decision on my behalf when I was nine that I should change to the French horn. So I played the French horn in several different orchestras growing up. But I haven't touched a trumpet for years. But truthfully those skills last you all your life. We built it into one Lucifer scene randomly at some point.
I wish that I knew my way around the guitar better, but I'm very much self-taught these days. I probably improved throughout the show because that's what I had in my trailer. So in between scenes, I would just go back and plug my guitar in, turn my microphone on. That space became my happy place.
Were you ever in a band?
Oh yeah. I played in several bands when I was growing up. There was a band in our church, which had electric guitars and stuff, so I played with them. There was a guy who was in who had a band “Red Alert”. So I played for them for a while. And I also had a band at school called “The Charlie's”. I sang in a kind of dance orchestra, like a Glen Miller-type dance band. I've had quite an eclectic sort of band background.
What has been the biggest lesson learned through your acting career? About maybe eight or nine months into my career I'd had a nice start. I left drama school and I went from job to job. Then I got the biggest job I'd ever got, which was a role for the BBC. And I was like one of the main characters in it. I went and shot this series up in Liverpool and it was amazing. And I thought “wow, this is it. I can't believe it. I've done it, I've made it.” But then I didn't work again for about eight months after that. The show came out, it came and went, and no one watched it. You have sort of peaks and valleys along the way and hopefully a steady incline. But I learned not to take anything for granted. That moment made me work even harder actually on things like auditions and everything I set my hand to.

Rejection can be a big part of acting and life, do you have any advice for handling rejection?
For acting, the industry itself is full of rejection. And being an actor, getting rejected is 99% of your job. I think the hardest thing to do is remind yourself why you got into it in the first place. What it was that you enjoyed about it, and also what people enjoyed about what you were doing. Understanding and realizing that we all have our own unique thing, whatever that is, a unique energy or quality, and believing in that and not trying to adjust to mimic other people. What works for you in your authentic kind of storytelling? The hardest thing to do a lot of times is believing in yourself.
What has been your most proud achievement?
Everyone says at this moment in time that “my proudest achievement is my children”. I am incredibly proud of my children. But, my biggest achievement from a career point of view, was making the jump from the UK out to America.
I had a lot of friends that had tried to make the jump, who were successful in the UK and then came out to The United States and it didn’t work out for them. Though I had a nurtured self-belief, I wasn't sure if it was ever gonna work out for me out here. I also had this gut feeling that if I kept going that something would happen. Then when that day did happen, it was really like one of those kind of strangely affirming moments that you have very rarely in your life. One where you whisper to yourself “I knew it. I knew I was right to believe and it's a dream.” It was all right to dream and it came to fruition. So I think that could be considered my big breakout moment, for sure.
Let’s talk about your family, what's your favorite part of being a dad?
I think my kids can make me laugh from a place that nothing or no one else can make me laugh from. Genuine joy, it's an energy about being around them and being in their space. A sense of humor is big in my family and my kids do make me laugh.
How do you balance your work and family life?
I'm now in a position where I'm slightly more fortunate than I used to be, in that if I say no to a job, I'm not panicking that that's the end of my career. I've had to learn to say no to jobs to take care of the other aspects of my life. Because the nature of this job it can feel like feast or famine. Nothing is going on and then all of a sudden everything is going on. I've had to find a way to be brave enough to say no to things.
You mentioned how comedy is important to you, Where do you say your balance lies? Do you tend to lean more towards comedy or dramatic acting?
I try to find comedy in anything that I'm doing. Because I think even if you're doing drama, there are moments of levity within that. As a tone or a genre to be working in I probably had some of the best times of my life on the set of a sitcom in my role on the UK show, Miranda. It was an audience sitcom and we had to rehearse for a week and then we'd shoot in front of a live audience. I think there's something lovely about the instant gratification of making someone laugh. So probably I'd lean towards comedy, but I love all of it.
Did you have a mentor growing up? Do you have one now? There were two people when I was at school. sMy drama teacher, Claire, who just gave me the confidence to believe that I could be an actor. She was the person who sort of told my parents that I should audition for drama school.
Then Lindy, who was a friend of mine from school. Lindy used to be an actress and she came to see me in a school play when I just got into acting. She called me the next day and said, “I saw you in a play last night and I think you should think about doing this.” So she helped me with my audition speeches for drama school. Those two people have certainly had the most sort of lasting effect, I would say, on where I am now.
But in terms of a role model, when I was growing up, I remember watching Kenneth Branagh do "Much Ado About Nothing”, and it blew my mind because I'd found Shakespeare innately boring in school. Then, all of a sudden I watched this person speak Shakespeare and I understood everything he was saying and I was just taken on this ride by him. I just think he's a wonderful actor.
So tell me about your sense of style when you're not working. Why do you think style is important for the modern man?
Style is always important because everyone says “don't judge a book by its cover”, but a lot of people still do. First impressions are very important, in my twenties and thirties, I've gotten into dressing up a bit better than I used to. But honestly, if I'm at home these days, I'm just in sweatpants and T-shirts. But if I'm going out, I'll put a nice pair of jeans on. I'll wear a nice simple jacket, and I love white sneakers. I've got about 29 pairs of various white sneakers.
You have been a big advocate for different charities. Tell us about your philanthropic passions.
I became an ambassador for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London about 15 years ago. It's one of the most famous hospitals in the UK. When I was working on Miranda a few years ago they contacted me about coming in and meeting some of the kids.
So when I went there, I just found it the most profound experience, especially as a parent. It's the most incredible place, though there is sorrow in their situations, you wouldn't know it because the spirit of that place is just incredible! It says a lot about kids and their resilience and the fact that kids have a lot more hope than anybody else. Hope is tangible in that place! The way the staff are with each other and the way that everyone is with the parents, who are the people that I sort of felt the most for, it’s simply beautiful. So I've tried to spend as much time either raising money for them or raising awareness of the hospital. I just think it's the most amazing place.
We heard that you went to drama school with Sam Heughan, can you tell us a little bit about that?
First off, he was known as Handsome Sam to everybody. He's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He is very talented and incredibly good-looking, and everyone thought he was going to go on and have an amazing career, which he has done! The nicest thing is when I talk to him, he's the same as he used to be. He's a very decent human being for sure.

I play god trapped in the body of a house cat. I’m sent on a mission from Heaven because the angels believe that I have been taking my eye off the ball somewhat as god and I need to go back down to Earth and learn how to appreciate humanity again. They do this by tasking me to be a cat! It is a lot of fun, and very silly, with lots and lots of laughs.
How does voice acting differ from television or acting in feature films?
The main difference between voice acting and film/TV acting is that you go and do your lines all on your own, so you don’t interact with anybody. You try it lots of different ways, and you get to be ridiculously silly inside a small booth where no-one can really see what you are doing. You find yourself pulling all sorts of funny faces, and making all sorts of funny noises, but it is actually quite liberating.
What else can we look forward to seeing you in soon?
Coming up I have season 2 of Tell Me Lies, in which I play a lecturer at Baird College and my storyline starts to intermingle with one of our characters that we met in season 1. Overall it continues to explore the lies that we are prepared to tell ourselves and each other when sex or love is on the line. It really delves into different aspects of sexual relationships, toxicity and love. I can’t wait for people to see it. It is probably one of the darkest characters I have played, if not the darkest, but it was great to go and do something very different to what I have been doing recently. I got to work with the Creator and Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer, who also happens to be my wife, who is absolutely brilliant at what she does, and I think that it is going to be really really good.
At some point next year Washington Black will be released, which is the adaptation of the novel of the same name and is a huge historical fantasy piece. We filmed it all over the world in Iceland, Nova Scotia, Mexico – I’m excited to see that come out. I’m in development on a new comedy show with my wife called Second Wife as well. Also, I will be appearing in The Thursday Murder Club alongside probably the greatest cast I have ever worked with so I am very excited about that too.
THE SECOND GLASS OF MILK
INDYCAR’S NEW BACKTO-BACK CHAMP, JOSEF NEWGARDEN
In the adrenaline-fueled world of IndyCar racing, one name shines bright like a wellpolished trophy: Josef Newgarden. With the finesse of a seasoned athlete and the daring of a true risk-taker, Newgarden has carved his name into the annals of motorsport history with each lightning-fast lap he conquers. But what sets this racing prodigy apart isn't just his blistering speed or his uncanny ability to navigate hairpin turns at breakneck speeds—it's his unwavering passion for the sport that ignites the very essence of competition.
Born with a lead foot and a heart of gold, Josef Newgarden's journey to the pinnacle of IndyCar greatness is as captivating as the races he dominates. From his early days tearing up karting tracks to his meteoric rise through the ranks of American openwheel racing, Newgarden's story is a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence.
PHOTOS BY JOHN RUSSO WORDS BY TOM BURLESON
Newgarden recently clinched the 2024 Indy 500, becoming the first IndyCar driver to win back-to-back Indy 500 races since Helio Castroneves in 2001 and 2002. As the checkered flag waved, the crowd, who were already on the edge of their seats, erupted. Celebrating not just a win, but the dawn of a new legend in IndyCar racing. Newgarden's repeat triumph solidified his place among the sport's greats, making the 2024 Indy 500 an unforgettable chapter in racing history.
Walk us through your thoughts in the final laps of your 2024 Indy 500 victory.
You know Indianapolis is a team victory through and through. Every race win is a team victory but it’s really magnified at Indianapolis. You have to build the fastest car, and that takes the entire season to build it. But then you have to show up and execute on race day and make the right moves at the right time.
When you look at the crew aspect at the Indy 500 it’s a full team effort to win this race. I think the final pitstop was really critical. Every pitstop is important, you can’t make a misstep. Luckily for me, my crew was the fastest on the pitlane and they had just won the pitstop competition two days prior. They set a new record in the competition for the fastest stop ever during May. So there was a lot of positivity leading into the race and they had one of the fastest stops on the final one of the day to get us out in front and challenge for the win.
It’s very special to win back-to-back. You know I had given up on the thought of winning the race last year and at least found some comfort in the idea that I may never win it. So you know it was incredible to convert in 2023 and then following it back up is just a whole other level. There’s nothing like it in the world that rivals that crowd. It's truly a sight to behold. So I’m already ready for 2025 now to have an opportunity for a three-peat.
How did you get into racing?
Everyone has their own unique story on how they enter the racing scene. I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and watched racing with my dad. I had to beg my dad to take me to the go-carts and let me have one. There is a lot of support needed to enter this sport. It’s not like baseball or basketball where you can find leagues to join in your community. Racing takes a lot of family support and financial support to even start the dream.
What does your race day routine look like?
This might be bad to admit but, I am not habitual or even superstitious like some drivers. I really like the flexibility of the day. Staying nimble and flexible is so important to racing, so I try not to add too much to my timeline before a race. I am with my family, and once I see the crowd, I can feel myself zone in.
What is your favorite way to relax?
I love being home, I look forward to simply going to a cafe with my wife and son, then maybe going to a park. It’s the simple things that I find the most relaxing.
Outside of racing, what would someone be surprised that you love doing?
I tend to be very OCD over details. So something I really enjoy is taking time and detailing my cars.
Beyond the roar of the engines and the smell of burning rubber lies a man whose charisma off the track matches his skill behind the wheel. Whether he's engaging with fans, charming sponsors, or supporting safety improvements in motorsport, Josef Newgarden embodies the essence of a modern-day racing icon. As the checkered flag waves and the milk pours, one thing is certain: in the world of IndyCar racing, there's no one quite like Josef Newgarden—a true champion both on and off the asphalt.
As an actor, an emcee for amazing charities, and a proud real estate broker. I've lived a pretty incredible life. Not to mention, my wife Kim and I even won ‘The Amazing Race’! But my greatest accomplishment, by far, has been forty-six years of being together and thirty-nine of marriage. Despite the ups and downs, and the ebbs and flows, we've fought to find a rhythm that works for us. We are often asked how in today’s marital climate what are our secrets to finding that balance. Well, I'm excited to spill them for you now.
1. PLACING GOD FIRST
From the very beginning of our relationship, Kim and I made a conscious decision to center our marriage on our faith in God. We believe that by prioritizing our relationship with Him, we can draw strength, wisdom, and guidance to navigate life's challenges together. Our commitment to prayer, attending church, and studying the Bible have been the cornerstone of our marriage, providing us with a solid foundation to weather any storm.
2. PRIORITIZING EACH OTHER
After God, our relationship with each other takes precedence above all else. We firmly believe that a strong marital bond requires intentional effort and investment. This means making time for each other amidst our busy schedules, actively listening, communicating openly, and continually nurturing our love and connection. By prioritizing our marriage, we ensure that it remains a source of joy, support, and fulfillment for both of us.
3. PLACING OUR CHILDREN AS OUR THIRD PRIORITY
While our children hold a special place in our hearts, we recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy balance in our family dynamic. We believe that problems can arise when couples prioritize their children on the same level as their spouses. Instead, we strive to model a loving partnership for our children, showing them the importance of marriage and family while also allowing them the space to grow and flourish as individuals.
4. CHOOSING GETTING RIGHT OVER BEING RIGHT
In any marriage, disagreements are inevitable. However, Kim and I have learned that the true measure of our love lies not in always being right, but in prioritizing harmony and understanding. We make a conscious effort to approach conflicts with humility, empathy, and a willingness to compromise. By choosing love over ego, we strengthen our bond and deepen our mutual respect.
We firmly believe that a strong marital bond intentionalrequireseffort and investment.
5. FIGHTING FOR OUR HAPPINESS THROUGHOUT THE JOURNEY
Marriage is a journey filled with ups and downs, triumphs and challenges. Through it all, Kim and I are committed to fighting for our happiness together. We view every obstacle as an opportunity to grow closer, every setback as a chance to strengthen our resilience, and every joy as a reminder of God's grace in our lives. By embracing the journey with faith, optimism, and perseverance, we continue to write the beautiful story of our marriage, one chapter at a time.
Now, this isn't some lofty ideal we never quite reach. Kim and I are ordinary people. We stumble, but we get back up. It's this realness that fuels our passion to help others. Remember, a thriving marriage IS possible. With God as your foundation, unwavering commitment, and a lot of laughter, you and your spouse can build a love that stands the test of time.

Marcus Ericsson's Road to Victory

U FULL THROTTLE
nder the blistering sun and roaring engines, Marcus Ericsson has carved his name into the high-octane world of IndyCar racing. Once a Formula 1 driver, this Swedish speedster has seamlessly transitioned into America's premier open-wheel racing series, proving that he’s more than just a European import. With a charm as smooth as his driving style, Ericsson has become a fan favorite, known for his strategic prowess on the track and his laid-back, approachable demeanor off it.
Ericsson’s journey to IndyCar wasn’t just a leap across the Atlantic; it was a leap of faith. After five years in Formula 1, driving for teams like Caterham and Sauber, he embraced the challenge of unfamiliar circuits and fierce competition. It didn’t take long for him to make his mark. His first Indy 500 win came in 2022, a race that was a masterclass in resilience and racecraft, cementing his reputation as a driver who thrives under pressure. Ericsson became the second Swedish driver to win the Indianapolis 500, after Kenny Bräck in 1999. That victory, with its mix of daring, overtakes and flawless pit stops, showcased the very essence of why racing enthusiasts are drawn to him.
How did you get into racing?
Well, racing is such a unique sport. A lot of people are born into racing families and have long lineages of racing. Not me though, I was eight years old when my dad took me to the gokart track. I was absolutely hooked from that moment. Begged to keep going back. My dad finally bought me one and I just continued to win. I broke a lap record and had eyes on me. Then at 16, I got noticed by a racing legend Kenny Bräck. Things just keep going up from there.
What was your favorite race you were in and why?
Though I have been in many races, it has to be the year I won the Indy 500 in 2022. The race is iconic, it’s the mountain we all want to climb. The Indy 500 is more than just a race, it’s an experience, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Seeing the biggest attended sports event worldwide and driving cars upwards of 200 miles an hour. It’s more than I can explain.
What was your first car?
I got my first car when I was 18, it was a 1990 Volvo 740 that I bought for $800. I loved driving that thing around Sweden.
What is your favorite way to relax?
Honestly, chill days are needed after a big race. You wake up the next day and you feel the “racing hangover” as I call it and all I want is to do a little cardio and relax my mind.
Outside of racing, what would someone be surprised that you love doing?
Well, they may or may not be surprising but being from Sweden, I love hockey. I played goalie when I was younger and always enjoyed the game. I keep up with the Swedish teams and have friends that are in the NHL.
What does your race day routine look like?
I keep the day pretty calm, with a lot of study and preparation in the morning. I will go over notes and really take time to visualize as much as I can. But the day tends to be a blur a lot of times. Racing
"HIS STOIC AND STRONG DEMEANOR, MUCH LIKE HIS STEADY HAND ON THE WHEEL, IS A TESTAMENT TO HIS UNWAVERING FOCUS AND DETERMINATION."
is quite different from other major sports simply because the racers don’t get time to focus until they get into their cars before the race. In other sports like football or basketball, you have locker rooms and shootarounds to get zoned in and warmed up. With racing you have tons of media exposure before the race. You are in interviews, bouncing from thing to thing, and meeting fans. The only time you get to mentally prepare is 15 minutes before you see that green light, so preparing in the morning is very key.
Beyond the race track, Marcus Ericsson embodies the spirit of adventure and charisma that resonates with fans all around the world. His stoic and strong demeanor, much like his steady hand on the wheel, is a testament to his unwavering focus and determination. For the discerning fan who values both speed and sophistication, following Marcus Ericsson is like taking a high-speed lap through the world of elite motorsport and beyond. As he continues to carve out his legacy in IndyCar, blending the thrill of racing with the allure of a life lived at full throttle, Ericsson’s journey promises to be a masterclass in precision, style, and resilience.
LEADING OR WALKING?
THE NOBLEMAN GUIDE TO LEADERSHIP
Words by Michele Harrington
What is “Leadership?” Wikipedia says “Leadership encompasses the ability of an individual to lead, influence or guide other individuals, teams or an entire organization.” Fair enough. First Team Real Estate purchased my real estate company in 2018 and I came aboard as Regional Manager. This meant I was overseeing (leading?) other office managers and agents in the company. My first manager’s meeting was met with a little apprehension from the managers as I am sure they were wondering who this newcomer was and did she know how to lead. I understood very quickly I had to earn their respect and instinctively I knew what I was going to do to earn their respect.
I not only became the go-to person when it came to contracts or laws or structuring deals but I went out of my way to make their lives better. Some people call it “servant” leadership (a bit cliche, don’t you think) but I just call it “leadership.” In my 20-plus years in the industry, I always made it a basic tenet of mine that I was going to make the lives of those who worked for and with me better. When you make the lives of those around you better, you can bet they will not only respect you, they will go out of their way to not disappoint you!
I worked hard, learned as much as I could about First Team, and earned a promotion to COO. I continued my leadership journey in this role until I was promoted to CEO. I was the first female CEO of First Team Real Estate, the largest independent real estate company in SoCal. I was, of course, deeply honored and excited. I also knew I had to continue to grow as a leader, never stopping or resting on my laurels. Leaders do not stop learning how to be better leaders, ever! My leadership journey started in the Marine Corps, and though I didn't realize it at the time, those drill instructors were the first “leaders” I experienced. Now, military leadership and discipline are great for the military, however, it is decidedly different from the leadership required for 1900 independent contractors! That kind of leadership is a different skill set altogether.
Military leadership has built-in expectations; respect the rank regardless of the person, respect the order given by the rank without question, it was automatic. Take the hill? Sir, yes sir! In the private sector, especially the sector with independent contractors, you have to earn respect.
How does a leader earn respect? For me, it involved figuring out what kind of leader I wanted to be for the industry I love. I want to be Clear, Decisive, Humble, and Disciplined. There are more attributes I continue to work on but let’s focus on these.
Being Clear and Decisive. A good leader communicates goals, expectations, and feedback clearly to ensure everyone is on the same page. They foster an environment where the team feels comfortable sharing ideas and concerns. A good leader also makes decisions promptly and effectively even under pressure. They stand by their decisions and dare to take responsibility if the outcomes aren't ideal. A good leader does not blame other people for the outcomes of the team; a good leader understands that the buck stops with them.
Another thing that separates the men from the boys so to speak, is when it comes to leadership is Discipline. If you're a disciplined leader you're going to lead by example. You're going to give a powerful example to your team. A leader who's disciplined shows up on time, meets deadlines and consistently performs at a high level. Discipline also enhances a leader's credibility. If you can't manage yourself, how can you expect to manage others? A disciplined leader makes the team feel more secure and motivated, knowing they will be working in a well-structured and Purpose-driven environment.
Humility; can be hard for some folks. It’s like "Hey, I got to this level so you know I must be awesome." There's nothing wrong with thinking you're awesome. We have to understand that humility doesn't mean thinking less of yourself, it means thinking of yourself less. Humble leaders understand their limitations and recognize the strengths and expertise of their team members. They trust their staff to handle tasks within their areas of expertise, knowing that they don’t have to micromanage every detail. Plus if you can’t trust your team, your team won’t trust you. As a leader, you also make sure you have the right “who” in the position to ensure your team can succeed. Humility is honesty, being honest with yourself, and being honest with those around you, not trying to make yourself appear stronger, better, or smarter. Remember Humility is nothing but truth, pride is nothing but lying.
WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT HUMILITY DOESN'T MEAN THINKING LESS OF YOURSELF, IT MEANS THINKING OF YOURSELF LESS.
I am very excited about my journey to being a better leader. I want to change lives and be an inspiration. I think when we approach leadership in the ways I’ve outlined it creates an environment where people want to follow. Remember, “If you are leading and nobody is following, then you are just taking a walk.” Stop walking and start leading.

PORSCHE CARRERA GT 2006
This summer, the automotive world eagerly awaits the auction of a 2006 Porsche Carrera GT, one of only 1,270 units ever built. Expected to fetch over $1 million at RM Sotheby’s, this car exemplifies Porsche's engineering prowess and racing heritage.
The Carrera GT's journey began as a Le Mans prototype, but FIA rule changes redirected it into a road-going supercar. Unveiled at the 2000 Paris Motor Show, it received an enthusiastic reception, leading to production in 2004. It stood out among rivals like the Ferrari Enzo and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
Constructed with advanced materials, the Carrera GT features a carbon-fiber monocoque, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a unique racing clutch. The 5.7-liter V-10 engine delivers 612 PS, rocketing from 0-60 in 3.57 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph.
Declared Porsche’s most successful supercar, this Carrera GT is a prime addition to any high-performance collection, representing a blend of art and engineering excellence.
