GAC Report: Don’t Sit On The Sidelines

Don’t Sit On The Sidelines

Your PAC contributions have a direct impact on legislation affecting small business owners.

By Amber Peoples

With new challenges for franchisees emerging constantly, it is more important than ever to make relationships with Members of Congress and ensure that business-friendly Members have the interests of AKFCF top of mind.

This year is not the year to sit on the sidelines! The future of small business and franchisees is directly connected to the time and efforts of your GAC. Your 2022 PAC donation enables the GAC to support business-friendly political candidates and Members of Congress, to ensure that our concerns and issues are voiced and received.

Please make your 2022 AKFCF PAC donation online by visiting our portal on the AKFCF website in the Government Affairs tab. Or:

You can also scan the QR Code above with your phone’s camera, which will direct you to a website to make your contribution.

For more information, please contact your regional GAC representative, Amber Peoples of Polaris Consulting, LLC (apeoples@ polariswdc.com) or Leslie Sharp, AKFCF PAC Treasurer (Lcsharp4133@gmail.com). Our face-to-face meetings have been put on pause due to the COVID-19 outbreak in recent years, and the relationships previously made with these Representatives and Senators has proven to be even more invaluable.

AKFCF – Political Action Committee (PAC)

The AKFCF created a PAC to make sure our voices are heard in Washington, D.C. The AKFCF Government Affairs Committee and the AKFCF PAC Board of Directors would like to thank the franchisees listed below for their contributions this year to the AKFCF PAC. Each quarter, we list the names of the franchisees who have supported the PAC at time of print as a token of our appreciation. This list is all the latest contributions, broken down by region. We encourage you to please join your fellow franchisees and support your AKFCF PAC. For information on how you can become involved, or if you don’t see your name and should, please contact Leslie Sharp, treasurer of AKFCF GAC/PAC at lcsharp4133@icloud.com.

Midterms

In a midterm election year, it is apparent that new faces will be gracing the halls of the Capitol at the start of the new Congress. With so many contentious elections in November, every vote and every dollar for each candidate counts. Much of the contributions for these political candidates comes from Political Action Committees (PACs), just like AKFCF PAC.

The AKFCF’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC) is a nonpartisan committee who identifies and lobbies political candidates based on their support for our issues, and only give to Members that are worthy of your PAC contributions. As the AKFCF website suggests, the GAC’s primary goal is to “work on behalf of all KFC franchisees in supporting, suggesting, and moving legislation that is a benefit to you and our brand.” The decision to contribute to a candidate is made regardless of party affiliation, with the knowledge that AKFCF supports the ‘issue’ not the candidate/Member and the AKFCF needs friends on both sides of the aisle to promote policies that are beneficial to its franchisees.

Our face-to-face meetings have been put on pause due to the COVID-19 outbreak in recent years, and the relationships previously made with these Representatives and Senators has proven to be even more invaluable. Your AKFCF GAC was an integral part of several legislative achievements and pandemic relief including: • Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) • Qualified Improvement Property (QIP), Accelerated Depreciation • Joint Employer protections • Influenced Tax Reform, especially for

Small Business • Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) • Harvest Tax Deduction • Repeal of the ACA Individual Mandate

Thank you for your support! It takes every franchisee doing their part for the GAC to be successful.
