Inaugural Cardboard Boat Regatta
A new tradition made a giant splash on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, during Nerinx's second day of school kickoff. The inaugural cardboard boat regatta was the first introduction to neighborhoods and households for the 2021-2022 school year, and it cultivated a great deal of community spirit and camaraderie.
During the morning, students dove right into building, decorating, and naming their boats. Then, seniors gathered in the back parking lot to display their finished designs before parading to the Webster University pool for the races, which took place in several heats.
"Today was a perfect and original way to build community. Many students and faculty have said how much fun they had. We hope to do it again next year," Dr. Molly Grumich said.
Congratulations to Ms. Samantha Coates' team and the Tobin Neighborhood for winning the first ever Neighborhood Cup with their boat, the SS Finesse! Ms. Dawn Grass' team and the Manganaro Neighborhood received the Most Creative Boat award for their pontoon-style SS Sarah.
Special thanks to Mrs. Kristen Teeter and her shipmate crew for organizing the day and timing the winners.
