Nelson women’s team downs RNZAF XI in T20 encounters Jacob Page The Nelson women’s cricket team emerged with two wins from as many matches against a Royal New Zealand Air Force XI in Blenheim. With a number of strong teenage women players coming through the Nelson ranks, the trip to Blenheim was seen as a way of growing the group which has proved to be more than competitive nationally. In the first of two Twenty20 fixtures, Nelson compiled a highly competitive 144 for four, thanks to an unbeaten 50 off 45 balls from opener Saffron Wilson and 21 from Harriet King and 19 from
Tayla Brown. In reply the RNZAF could only muster 71 for nine, as a flurry of late wickets stalled their run chase. Nelson captain Kate Stiven grabbed three wickets while Shakia Biggs earned two wickets. Captain Stiven turned provider with the bat in the second match, plundering 38 off 31 balls to help her team through to 128 for five. Maia Radloff was the chief destroyer for Nelson with the ball, taking four wickets for eight runs in her four overs. Estella Grant captured two wickets, with Saffron and the spin of Kate Gaging and Genevieve Bone also taking a wicket each.
The international hit touring group, Nitro Circus, performed at Nelson's Trafalgar Park yesterday afternoon. They have been doing a tour around the country and enthralled the large crowd with their two-wheel antics. For more photos from the event see nelsonlive.co.nz.
