The Lincoln Central Library is located at the existing Pershing Center site in Lincoln, NE. Replacing the Bennett Martin Public Library that is cattycornered from the site, the new library design must fit the needs of its current and new users.
The concept of the library is designed using a tiered level system promoting visibility between each floor. The program for each floor is split between age groups starting with community on the first level, the children’s floor on the second level, the teen’s floor on the third level, and the adult’s floor on the fourth level. This provides organization of the floor layout and programs and simple wayfinding for its users.
The library’s overall mission is to serve a variety number of users, provide accessibility and transparency to the public, and engage the community.
