The Taylors take their 12-year-old boy and 9-yearold girl to Outlaw Pass almost every week.
Both Melvin Taylor, 42, of Victoria, and his son enjoy the go-karts the most, and Taylor’s daughter likes the arcade inside and miniature golf, he said.
“Being a young boy you dream about driving fast. You can go out there and drive as fast as you want,” he said. “Me as a dad, I love the go-karts. But of course my fun as a dad comes in ... watching (my) kids have a great time. That’s what makes me extremely happy and fills my heart.”
Melvin Taylor and his wife, Ashley Taylor, 40, have taken their children to the family fun venue since it opened in March 2016.
“The place, it’s a top-tier establishment — It’s a clean place. It’s a safe place,” Taylor said.
Julie, 61, and Mark Mize, 59, both of Victoria, moved to Victoria from Houston, where Mark Mize was a residential appraiser. The couple did research and made plans for a business for about 10 years before building their facility.
Outlaw Pass, 78 Tate Road, has a 700-foot go-kart track, 18-hole miniature golf course, an arcade, bungee jump, rock wall, water balloon fight corral, a train for small children and more, Julie Mize said.
Before they opened, “we thought, that’s so important in life is people, friends and family getting together and being able to have relationships with one another, have fun times, laugh,
communicate and put memories together,” she said.
The Mizes wanted to bring Outlaw Pass to Victoria to give families more options for entertainment in the city, she said.
“With the go-karts, you can race each other, and miniature golf — get into small groups and challenge each other and talk and visit,” she said. “Hopefully it brings out the kid in everyone.”
Mize said one of her favorite parts of owning the activity venue is having the opportunity to meet people. Outlaw Pass has also brought out the creative side of Mark Mize, she said.
“We needed some benches — he gets on Pinterest and looks at benches,” she said. “He recently went to a flea market with me and he’s never gone ... He found an old pump and old tub and built a little fountain with it.”
The Taylors said they keep returning to Outlaw Pass because of the owners and employees.
“The employees know my kids by name, and it’s a fantastic place to take the kids,” Taylor said. “They love it, and my kids can’t get enough of it.”
