A NEW breast imaging suite at Frankston Hospital has been named after the former MP for Dunkley, the late Peta Murphy, who died from cancer last December. The Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan today joined Murphy’s family at the opening of the Peta Murphy Breast Imaging Suite on Saturday 3 February. “Peta took great pride in the Labor Party’s role in the story of Australia’s public health system. It is so fitting that this wonderful addition bears her name,” Albanese said. “Thanks to Peta’s advocacy, the

Rotary containing their success WHEN the Rotary Club of Mt Martha received $18,500 in the Community Bank Mt Martha 2023 Mt Martha Stronger Community Grants for its Container Deposit Scheme no one anticipated the success it was going to be, and its only been operational for just three months. The Grant allowed the club to invest in some long-term infrastructure, including a trailer, 90 bins, 100 crates, 50 hi-vis vests, signage and stickers, artwork and just this week, 2000 large polyethylene bags. So far 49,000 containers have been collected. At this stage the main drop of site is at Mornington Community Support Centre where
containers can be dropped off during business hours. Pictured in the photo is Mount Martha Life Saving Club, which has bins that are locked up inside the entrance to the club and accessible during opening hours of the Club. “Such an amazing effort of not only gathering the containers and keeping them out of land fill but making use of such a great scheme and having the money flow back into our community,” said Community Bank Mt Martha manager Stacey Wakeman. For more information on collection of containers please contact Rotarian Peter Rawlings on 0418 360 250.

internal and community-based referrals to eliminate the need for day-ofsurgery transfers. The suite will also help address the increasing demand for breast imaging services and to reduce the current waiting list at Monash Health in Clayton. A $1.1 billion redevelopment of Frankston Hospital due to be completed in late 2025, includes a new clinical services tower, 130 extra beds, new mental health and oncology spaces, expanded women’s and children’s areas and 15 new operating theatres.
