Tell us something unique about your practice.
“I am the only naturopathic doctor currently practicing in the Beach Cities and the very first ND in my hometown of Manhattan Beach. I was very excited when Dr. Julia Moen from the Health & Wellness Center at BCO approached me with the opportunity to expand my Santa Monica practice. I deeply value collaborating with both conventionally trained medical doctors and alternative health care providers. Beach Cities Orthopedics is the only all-inclusive clinic with orthopedic doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists all under one roof.”
Why does your industry appeal to you?
“It’s very exciting for me to be a part of the current paradigm shift in health care—one that focuses on treating the whole patient rather than just their symptoms. I believe that now more than ever patients are interested to learn about their health, and they want their doctors to participate in that education. They are focused on wellness and prevention as well as natural yet effective treatment alternatives for current complaints.”
Why did you choose to be a naturopathic doctor?
“When I was a little girl, one of my closest friends was hospitalized frequently. She and her family exhausted all conventional medical approaches and turned to complementary treatments for additional pain management solutions. I had been on the path to becoming a conventional MD, but I changed course after seeing how an integrative approach addressed multiple facets including spiritual and mental well-being. I chose to be a naturopathic doctor because I resonate strongly with the philosophy that a patient is more than the summation of their parts.”
How do you give back to your community?
“Many people cannot afford the rising cost of health care, and that is exacerbated by the limited insurance coverage for many complementary and alternative therapies. With this in mind, we are working to build an integrative sports medicine foundation to provide comprehensive care for female athletes. As an active board member of the foundation, I am very excited to be able to give back to my hometown community.”
