With preparations well underway for AHEAD 2026, the global awards programme is gearing up for a landmark year as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, AHEAD has evolved far beyond its beginnings as the European Hotel Design Awards, expanding its reach across the globe and establishing itself as one of hospitality’s leading platforms for recognising design excellence. To mark the occasion, Preciosa Lighting has been named AHEAD’s trophy partner, with a new physical expression of the accolade set to debut in 2026. Drawing on three centuries of glassmaking expertise, the Czech manufacturer has crafted a trophy that reflects AHEAD’s position on the global stage while signalling the start of its second decade.
As the global programme continues to reveal its finalists, the Middle East and Africa shortlist is the latest to be announced. Among the contenders are a record-breaking tower in Dubai, a converted heritage house in Muscat, and the ambitious destinations taking shape along Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. Sub-Saharan Africa is also strongly represented among the finalists; the new generation of wilderness retreats are embracing the continent’s extraordinary landscapes, while multiple new openings in Cape Town make their mark. Now, the AHEAD MEA judging panel will convene for a day of discussion and deliberation before casting their votes, with the winners set to be revealed at a glittering ceremony at Dubai’s Bluewaters Forum on Monday 2 November.
