On the manufacturer’s 40th anniversary, 13 September 2024, L-Acoustics’ London showroom and HYRISS exhibition space saw its grand opening. “The significance of the date was intentional,” Fichte said, “HYRISS represents the culmination of L-Acoustics’ technological innovations throughout its four decades.” HYRISS, standing for Hyperreal Immersive Sound Space, has the potential to “shift the way we think about sound in a space,” Fichte continued. The technology is suitable for a wide breadth of applications, including homes, yachts, hospitality, corporate, retail, and more. Fichte noted a common pattern in how some modern spaces approach audio, often favouring visual aesthetics over acoustics. While these spaces may look appealing, they frequently fail to deliver an equally captivating auditory experience. “Usually, spaces are designed with function in mind first, and an AV consultant is then tasked with designing the technology around the room. The approach of a HYRISS solution is to incorporate sound within the space before the aesthetics of the room are designed,” he explained. HYRISS combines L-Acoustics hardware, software, and services to create immersive sound environments that consider the application’s end goal and the room’s acoustic properties. It’s a network consisting of Soka loudspeakers with L-FINS technology, SB10i subwoofers with L-VENTS, and X6i speakers

incorporating coaxial technology. These components are driven by LA7.16i amplified controllers utilising L-SMART adaptive power management. The quantity and placement of the equipment depend on the space; the solution can be tailored to fit any room type. “The heart of HYRISS is the L-ISA Processor II,” Fichte explained, “It serves as the core processing unit. Beyond its basic live objectbased mixing capabilities, the processor incorporates Anima technology for flexible stereo and surround format steering alongside stereo-to-immersive conversion. Then, the Ambiance feature allows users to recreate various acoustic environments, ranging from dry studio spaces to cathedrals, concert halls, and performing arts centres.” At the London showroom, the MONDO-DR team was treated to a comprehensive demonstration of HYRISS’ capabilities. The L-Acoustics team transformed one room into a club, a theatre, and even a large, echoey cave, just with the sound technology that was discreetly installed in the room. Fichte said that inviting clients, customers, and the curious to the exhibition space is useful, as “It allows us to showcase how a single space can transform to serve multiple purposes without physical changes to the room.” “Visitors are particularly interested in how HYRISS transcends the traditional in terms of audio system capabilities.
