As nightclubs continue to surface in abundance in large, busy cities, the teams crafting these party venues are being consistently pushed to find new, exciting ways to entertain customers. Respecting this, the teams behind the creation of KALI Ultra Lounge in Orlando collaborated to bring a nightclub to life that not only stands out on the streets of this Floridian city but also disrupts the traditional entertainment venue scene as a whole. Located on the second level of the 55,000 sq ft Mango’s Tropical Café, KALI attracts attention thanks to its combination of eye-catching technology and a vibrant, abstract aesthetic. Developing this futuristic gem meant a large investment in equipment, and to spearhead the installation and design of a system flexible and powerful enough for the space, idesign and MTI Sound, Lighting, & Staging were separately contacted by the venue. idesign – Lighting and Video Embodying the essence of Orlando’s nightlife, which thrives on freshness and flamboyance, Owner David Wallack’s visual inspiration for KALI can best be described as ‘extravagant artistic luxury’. Integrating lighting and video elements, the Florida-based idesign expertly realised this aesthetic without the result appearing messy or overcrowded. Micheal Meacham, Owner of idesign, underlined his team’s process of designing, stating: “We are not maximalists, nor are we minimalists; everything we install has intention. The distinction between negative space and contrast is what imparts depth and dimensionality to the design. As visual artists, all our work is very calculated and thoughtful.” The project began for idesign after proving their potential to KALI’s owners. “It was a courting process,” Meacham began. “The owner of Mango’s knew of our solid reputation and previous work. What secured our contract was providing the client with an Oculus Quest headset, which is something we typically do.
