Andrea Hartranft Hartranft Lighting Studios What is your chosen feature?
A flat, half oval plate with dichroic glass shards, made for me by Dr. Jill Mulholland, while she was working for the IALD Education Trust.
Where can it be found in your home? It sits on a West-facing window ledge.
When do you use/experience it?
During the afternoon, when the sunlight hits the glass at the right angle, our sunroom ceiling transforms. As the sun progresses, the dots reach farther and farther, softening in intensity.
How does it make you feel?
The ever-changing colours and patterns remind me that there is wonder all around us. More importantly, my Granddaughter loves the dots – she gets so excited when she sees them – and her joy brings me hope. As long as the sun is shining and the earth is turning, I know there will be colourful, little dots on my ceiling, and every day there will be a new opportunity for joy.
Why does it have meaning to you?
Jill Mulholland is a talented artist. She shared this piece with me because she knew I would appreciate its effect on a space and she knew it would make me happy. Every time I see those wonderful dots, it’s like getting a warm hug from a dear friend. www.hartranftlighting.com
