October 2020 Like every other family, Moda has been touched by breast cancer. The best way to raise awareness is with reminders while having a little bit of fun. So we're expanding Stitch Pink 2020 to include free patterns for embroidery and crossstitch, and for a Block A Day sampler quilt. Patterns will be available in late June to make samples and to plan kits or an event.

Imagine it’s 1950. There’s a freshly-painted farmhouse with a wrap-around porch and lots of trees filling a big front yard. There’s a red pick-up truck parked near the barn and chickens wandering under a clothesline blowing in the breeze. On that clothesline, there are quilts, aprons and dresses made from prints like those in Pocketful of Posies. Feed sack-inspired, and colored in clear, fresh colors, these floral prints still feel as new as they did then.

I love red and white quilts, so much so that I knew I had to create fabrics inspired by the antique quilts in my collection. A treasured antique Redwork quilt inspired a panel that can be used for so many things. If you love slow-stitching – and you know I do – the blocks can be stitched, or they can be left as they are. The designs can also be used as the center squares of pieced blocks, the possibilities are endless! The colors and prints are true to their vintage roots – small-scale, shirting style prints in two shades of deep red. When I look for inspiration, I look to my collection of antique quilts, blocks, tops and fabrics. They’re the fabrics and colors I love, and this palette will always mix with my other collections. I just love watching little kids play. They run, jump, squeal, giggle and laugh with boundless energy! They enjoy every moment, innocent and free from adult worries and stress. It’s how I feel when I sew with my quilting buddies, or even by myself. We might not run or jump as much as we used to but the rest is true – there is always plenty of laughing and giggling. It’s Elementary is full of fun for both kids and quilters. There is a panel with kids playing, and a panel with an alphabet so you can spell the words that make you happy. These charming flowers, bubbles and pin dots will have me running to my studio to sew and play.

I’ve always lived in the suburbs but our family recently moved into a new home that backs up to the mountains, and having so much beautiful, wide-open space has changed my life.
