Dr. Betty Price is a world-renowned author, global speaker, co-pastor and wife of Apostle Dr. Frederick Price of Crenshaw Christian Center which is one of the worlds largest and growing non-denominational, multi-cultural churches located in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Betty was born Betty Ruth Scott on February 9, 1934 in Gloster, Mississippi. In 1943, at the age of nine years old, she along with her siblings and parents moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1952, when she was 19 years old, she met Frederick Price, whom she later married on March 29, 1953.

God has given women special gifts and abilities, especially to those in ministry. Dr. Betty’s teaching style and abundance of wisdom encourages women all over the world to make sound decisions in their life based on the Word of God. Dr. Betty’s life is a perfect example for that serves as a blueprint for all of us to follow and emulate.
Dr. Betty’s living legacy as An American Story of Faith and Victory gives us an amazing account of how she has been able to prevail even when unexpected and heartbreaking events had occurred in her life. In 1962, less than ten years into their marriage, their eight-year old son, Frederick Price III,
was coming home from school and was struck and killed by a car. Dr. Betty discusses this in her book, “Standing by God’s Man,” as she recalls her and her husband, Dr. Price, trying to console each other. As a dedicated Christian, it must have taken a great deal of faith in God to be able to sustain her throughout this untimely death of her son.
In 1990, Dr. Betty developed cancer and underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment and was able to overcome and receive total healing over one of the deadliest forms of cancer. Dr. Betty shares her personal testimony in her book Through the Fire & Through the Water: My Triumph Over Cancer. This book is full of heartfelt experiences and at the same time teaches individuals how to combine their faith along with modern day medicine to receive their complete healing.
Dr. Betty continues to travel extensively worldwide with her husband as she shares her real-life stories of faith and victory which give people all over the world the faith, hope and encouragement to continue to believe in God and not in the negative circumstances that they may be currently facing.
Dr. Betty continues to play a fundamental role in her husband’s ministry, as well as in the operation of the church. Her vision to provide several programs and training centers for men, women and our younger generation has led to the creation of numerous groups at the ministry of Crenshaw Christian Center. The Women’s Network which is a support group designed for women dealing with a variety of issues meet regularly at the ministry and also serves as a prototype for many other women associations and organizations throughout the country. Alongside this network are other such programs such as alcohol and drug abuse programs. These programs are designed to provide assistance to those which were once afflicted with some form of substance abuse. Dr. Betty has made available a 24-hour Intercessory Prayer Network for members, visitors, and friends of the Ministry. The ministry also provides a cancer support group, which meets weekly, and imparts practical teachings to inform participants that they can overcome cancer along with their faith and the proper knowledge of the Bible.
In addition to these special outreach programs, Dr. Betty’s vision to restore beauty and build better communities led her to establish the Vermont Village Community Development Corporation (VVCDC), which is a massive effort to renovate and bring viability to the Vermont Corridor and by also partnering with other organizations. In 1992, Dr. Betty was bestowed an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree and in 1993, she was presented an honorary Doctorate Degree. She was ordained to the ministry of the Gospel in January 1994. She has also received numerous awards and commendations from local, state, and federal government agencies for her community service work, and has received the honor as “Woman of the Year” from the Los Angeles County Commission for Women in the Second District.
In addition Dr. Betty is the author of several books on faith, healing and prosperity. Standing by God’s Man, which details her many experiences as a pastor’s wife; Through the Fire & Through the Water: My Triumph Over Cancer, the story of her battle with and victory over a dreaded enemy – cancer; Lifestyles of the Rich & Faithful, A Handbook for Successful Christian Living; Wisdom From Above Vols 1 & 2; and A Warning to Ministers, Their Wives, and Mistresses.
Along with these accomplishments, Dr. Betty is a virtuous wife and loving mother. In closing, Dr. Betty Price is a gift to women and to ministry and most of all she is a blessing to her family. God has blessed Dr. Betty with husband Apostle Frederick, four children – Angela Marie Evans, Cheryl Ann Price, Stephanie Pauline Buchanan, and Frederick Kenneth Price. All of the Price children and their sons and daughter-in-law work or have worked for the Ministry at Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles. Healthier gums Signs of periodontal disease, such as swollen gums and redness, can surface due to teeth that are crowded or too widely spaced. Up-Close and Personal with Dr. Betty Price
What is it particularly that you would like people to know about you?
Well, I would like people to know that I am an honest to God Christian. I really do believe in God and He is the most important person in my life and I want people to know that I live my life according to the Word of God and I want to represent Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit more than anything in the world and those are the most important things in my life.
What is the biggest miracle that you have lived through?
I believe it would be the attack of cancer on my body in 1990. That was the biggest challenge that I had ever faced in my life and, of course, I had God’s word which brought me through it. It was almost a two year journey but God was faithful and 19 years later, I am still here today.
When you look at the present worldwide circumstances of economic turmoil, massive job loss, increased poverty, global warming, terrorism, how do you keep yourself positive and how do you encourage others?
I keep myself positive, again, with the Word of God, according to my faith because no matter what happens in the world, God’s word still says the same thing. The bible tells us that He is always with us and that He will never leave us nor forsake us and that He provides all of our needs according to His riches and Glory by Christ Jesus and not according to the present circumstances or economic situations of this world. His word remains the same, no matter what we see in the world. We walk by faith and it is the faith in God’s word that gets us the answers that we need because in heaven there are no shortages.
Do you think you have more faith than the average person?
Well, I never thought about comparing my faith with anyone. As a matter of fact, I rather not compare myself but just make sure that I have everything I need to receive from God and I don’t compare myself to anyone else.
How do you explain to a person that cannot relate to anything on a spiritual level about the faithfulness and goodness of a real God?
I think the only way you can reach a person like that is by the life you live. Actually I do know a person just like that. She does my massage every month and it is very difficult for her to understand God and how He blesses you because she blames God for the bad things that are happening in the world. So the only way that I could reach her is for her to continually watch my life and the things that God is doing in my life. She is always wondering how in the world I can have a marriage the way I have and how my life is so peaceful and I tell her to go back to the Word of God. Every time I
tell her to go back to the Word of God, she goes blank like she cannot receive it. She tells me that she does believe in God in her own way but because of all the bad things that are happening in the world and to people, she thinks that God is causing those things and that is because she does not know the Word. That is why we have to continue to live a life by example and never let people like her catch us doing something that we should not be doing. People can read your life and that is the best testimony that God is real.
When you were battling against cancer and at times, things did not look favorable, what were you really thinking?
Well, I had a Word from God when I first got the attack that said that this sickness is not until death but for the Glory of God so that the Son of God may be glorified so I kept that scripture which He first ministered to me close to my spirit when I first found out I was sick. That kept me going through the whole two years. I would never go down to the level of how I felt. I had some very hard times in which I felt like I was in a very dark tunnel and I could not see light anywhere and I did not know how God was going to get me out of that. I would say to God “okay, God it’s me and you.” No one could help me. My husband would be sleeping right next to me and he wanted to help me but he could only go so far.
Then I would say “Okay, God, it’s me and you. I’m going to see how you are going to get me out of this thing and then a scripture would come to me such as Psalm 23: Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. The key is God’s word to all of it. I could choose to fear evil or I could choose to believe God and His Word that He is with me so He would be with me through that. So a scripture would always come to me. Wonderful scriptures like 1st Corinthians 10:13 There are no temptations, trials or test such is common to man, but God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able but with that temptation or test make a way of escape so that you will be able to bear it.
I would talk to myself and say “you are still here so I guess you can still bear it.” It would be one thing after another and I would use the Word. That was the only thing that got me through it. 2d Cor 10:5 – casting down any imagination and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of the Word of God bringing it to captivity in every thought and obedience to Christ. So when Satan has thoughts feeding into your mind, we have to fight it with the Word because that is our weapon.
During those times, did you ever feel like giving up and letting go?
No, I never felt like giving up when I was going through that trial because I never saw myself as being dead. I saw myself through this trial. I had to do 2d Corianthians 4:18 – which tells us not to look at the things which are seen but to look at the things which are unseen which is God’s word which tells me that by Jesus stripes, I am healed and all of the healing scriptures that I had to use. God’s word is eternal which He proves because I am still here.
How would you encourage other women going through similar physical challenges with cancer?
I wrote the book “THROUGH THE FIRE AND THROUGH THE WATER”. I wrote that book because I began to receive a great deal of phone calls on people asking me to share my story and let people know that attack came as a result of not eating properly and then I told them what I had to do. A lot of people have faith mixed up and think that they do not have to go to the doctors but the doctors do place you in position for God’s healing power. As they read my book, and got to the place that they did not want to take treatment, they read my book and decided to take treatment. One way to encourage them is through my book and through God’s word because it tells you all you need to know to receive healing.
What do you like to see happening in women’s lives that makes you feel like you are making a difference?
I like to see more women really having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ so that they do not let any man or anyone put them down. I would like to see them live up to who they really are in Jesus Christ. Many women suffer from low self-esteem, especially those who are single. They feel like God forgot about them and if we do what Psalms 37:4 tells us to do: You should delight yourself in the Lord first and He will reward you with the best. I would like to see them trust God and not for them to go ahead and make plans for their own lives and make their own decisions. He is real and will be there for you so that they don’t have to suffer.
What is the best thing that has ever happened to you?
Knowing God and His Holy Spirit and giving Him first place in my life and husband, home, ministry, relationships. You can do all those things you are called to do. Knowing Him for real and knowing that He will do what He said He would do.
