Regardless the time of year you visit, the Traverse City region has all kinds of memories waiting for you take home. One of those memories is touring the many tasting rooms for locally produced wine, beer, and spirits that dot the area. Whether you are new to tasting or an old pro, you are sure to find new blends and new people at each tasting venue. It was only a few decades ago that a couple of fellows decided to put in some grapes. To make wine, they said. Most thought they had lost their minds. (This is cherry country, not wine country!) Well, guess who’s laughing now! It did not take long for dozens to follow suit as growers learned that our climate, altitude, and proximity to Lake Michigan make terrific conditions to grow grapes for wine … and hops for beer … and grains for spirits, all with unique Up North flavors and blends found only here.
