Airport, Other Transportation Richmond International Airport: Owned and operated by the Capital Region Airport Commission since 1975, Richmond International Airport, abbreviated RIC, has evolved into one of the most modern and wellequipped airports in the eastern United States. Located seven miles southeast of Richmond’s central business district, within an hour drive of historic Williamsburg and a two-hour drive from Washington, D.C., the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Virginia Beach, Richmond International Airport is the main hub to tourist attractions across Virginia. Eight air carriers currently serve RIC offering nonstop flights to major domestic destinations and connecting service to points around the globe. More than 3.5 million travelers utilize RIC annually and that number continues to grow. United Service Organization: RIC is pleased to note that a new United Service Organizations Center has recently opened in the terminal. Active duty and retired military personnel, National Guard, Reservists, Merchant Marines and their dependents are welcome in the center, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Military ID is required for entry. Airport Shuttle: Phone Number: (804) 748-0779 Groome Transportation is authorized to provide shuttle service for Fort Lee to and from the Richmond International Airport, about 40 minutes north of the post. It’s free for those with permanent change of station orders and $38 for others. Rail Service: Regional and national rail service is provided by AMTRAK. The AMTRAK station is located at 3516 South
Street, Ettrick, Va., and the ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. Authorized Taxis: Listed below are the five taxi companies currently authorized to operate on Fort Lee and provide transportation in and around the post and surrounding communities. Taxis from several miles outside the local area may deliver and pick up customers on Fort Lee by request.
