PURPOSE The Probate and Estate Planning Section provides a forum for discussion and study of procedural and substantive law issues in the fields of probate, conservatorships, guardianships, estate planning, trust and estate litigation, death taxes, and related fields. The Probate and Estate Planning Section is comprised of a diverse cross-section of professionals engaged in probate, estate planning, trust and estate litigation, tax, and related professions such as professional fiduciaries, bonding agents, certified public accountants, realtors, and financial advisors. The Probate and Estate Planning Section hosts monthly luncheons to bring our members together to exchange ideas and network with one another. Our luncheons are centered around an informative and educational presentation on a wide range of topics, including estate tax, incapacity, undue influence, property transfer tax, ethics, trust accounting, and legislative updates. We hold quarterly Bench-Bar meetings with the acting Sacramento County Superior Court probate judge and court staff to ensure that our members’ concerns are heard by the Court and also that the Court’s concerns are passed on to our members. The judge is invited to speak at least once a year at one of our monthly luncheons. We are also proud to host an annual reception to present a “Public Service Award” to one Section member who has provided exemplary service to the Court and to the public through pro bono work, mentoring, and serving as court-appointed counsel when called.
